We just seemed cursed with midfielders, no matter how many we bought or promoted or how highly rated they were, none worked out. And it’s coming on 15 years now.
We don't need even look for the right profile though. We've signed nobody with a view to add a playmaking quality to the team as its not an emphasis given our obsession with counter attacking. For example I don't think Jorginho is top class and believe he's overrated but a club that wants to get better at keep ball signs a CM of that mould. Not us though

In fairness to Ole he has bought well. We have really good players. But you look at City and how they are able to pass the ball into the back of the net. We are nowhere near that level of technicallity.

Ole has done a lot of good in the last 3 years, surely we can’t forget all that because we drew a game?

Nearly 200 millions on Maguire, AWB, Telles and DvB are a lot of money for not a lot of improvement. Our defensive record with all those additions is still inferior to that of LvG and Mourinho, even though you can argue for style difference.

If not for Bruno then his transfer dealings would be considered mediocre, at best.

Bigger than the Glazers? hmm, ok
Glazer's are bad but Ole is still the 2nd or 3rd most backed manager out there. He is nowhere near the 2nd or 3rd best manager out there so it is worth an argument tbh.

So hes the 2nd or 3rd backed manager. And hes got us 2nd and 3rd position. Interesting.

How could I forget. I’m just saying, we’ve come a long way from where we were before he took over.
Don't think it's that long but we have certainly improved by quite a few metrics so that's fair play. Just far too little for 3 years and hundreds of millions.

This is simplistic. Him doing well and him being limited and in turn limiting our expectations aren't mutually exclusive.
Calling for his head is a waste of time though. He's not going anywhere.
However, there seems to be this idea that everything around Ole has to be perfect because Ole as a coach himself is limited compared with out rivals. That's not acceptable. No coach has a perfect situation.
Striker or no striker, Pep is expected to win the league, Tuchel point man is striker we binned and most here say they wouldn't take back.
At what point do persistent flaws become the responsibility of a manager. Just saying because of a draw, I think is disingenuous. Today is a common theme.
I think he has done well but I think the discussion needs to be had about what our limits are with him as coach.

But we haven't won a thing and sure don't look like this year will be any different.

It seems that the bar changed from "demanding titles" to "not being absolutely shit". As long as we don't drop from top 4 the manager won't be sacked.

Patience has run out, at least from me. This is the season where he needs to prove he can be on the top coaches level. We all know he can't but we are willing to waste another season under him.

In the world. We lost the EL final..
We did. On penalties. Ole should have subbed on a goalkeeper who can save penalties for one who hasnt saved one in years.

But again, Ole isnt the biggest problem at this club. The one who negotiated contracts with some of our fringe players is an issue.
Added to the fact that Ole clearly hasnt got all his first choice targets (quite a few times before this season it was second or third choice)

The fact that we were there already kinda shows Ole's level. He is incredibly backed but he has little to show for it.

No manager gets 11 first choices for his XI, not even Pep. It is no way to measure anything.

Not good fit.
I think Zidane would do well here, he’s also an excellent man manager, has an absolutely pristine pedigree both as a player and a coach and also possesses game management skill.

Also won La Liga without Ronaldo, so comfortable at least working with some youths.

As for Conte, he would demand a lot of investment and there’s the risk of crashing and burning, but at least, like peak Mourinho, he’s proven so far that he’s able to win leagues with that investment.

We definitely do need to start seeing the fruits of all that work this season. He’s had 3 years to turn us around, get his players and imprint his style. He has to be looking at silverware this season, otherwise I agree questions should be asked about whether he gets another. But for Ole out to be trending already seems unfair to me.

I think it’s a discussion for next year to be honest. He’s spent 3 years getting the side moulded to how he wants it, it would be counter productive to fire him now. If we go backwards this season, I think it’s fair to ask for a change but we’ve made good progress year on year.

Conte and Zidane are available.

Conte is definitely an interesting option and probably the surest thing out there of delivering league success but tends to leave a bit of a shit show behind him when he departs. Zidane I’m not convinced about, which is strange as he’s won 3 CL’s but I feel Madrid was perfect for him and was really comfortable there, I don’t know how he’d handle a new league and club. Not to mention he doesn’t speak the language either.

Its the consistency that is the problem. We put 5 past leeds last week and yet we were shite for about 70 minutes today. We have not been consistent at all since Ole came. And if you are not consistent, you wont win anything.

This is what we have to get to. Being consistent. Maybe we can turn it around, but going by the last 3 years, i dont think we can.

No, but they still get a majority of first choice targets when asking for it.

But again, saying that, I dont think were going to agree. Ole has flaws, but hes not the biggest issue we have. And theres no way Glazers are less of an issue than the manager.

Even when we were winning, and on top with Fergie, Glazers were the biggest issue we had.

I wanted to replace Ole with Conte two years ago, but the reality is, there's no way we are making a change before next summer.

He has in terms of improving the squad. Results wise we either underachieve or reach the very minimum targets. I think it's quite clear at this point that he reached his ceiling as a manager. Mid 70s is his points limit in the league which will never be enough to seriously challenge for the title. He is just a type of manager that literally makes no difference whatsoever. We would "achieve" same things with any other average/decent manager in the world.

Maybe you’re right, time will tell. I will say though I like having him as our manager for the man management and morale he brings, and if he’s struggling tactically then we need to surround him with people who can offer that knowledge. Just sacking him and starting all over again isn’t the answer for me.

I would have understood if it was the same XI as the Leeds game but to bring in a clearly unmotivated Martial was just strange today. Still early days and Ole does appear to learn from his mistakes, I wouldn't expect to see Martial next week.

Are you saying Ole didn't get his first choice? Can't get much better than Sancho and Varane, and really interested in who were the main choices before Maguire and AWB.

He's been as backed as it possibly can, it's time to show for it. No more excuses.

Of course not. People going OTT or calling for him to be sacked after one draw are insane.

That said, there's no getting away from the fact that there's huge pressure on him this season and very little room for disappointment.

If we haven't challenged for major trophies this season he'll be heavily criticised and if we drop out of the title race early he'll be under serious pressure to keep his job. In that context the reaction to early bad results take on a slightly hysterical edge.

Unfortunately from his POV he's done well enough so far that he's put himself in a position where he now actually has to get the sort of results you'd expect from a top class manager, otherwise we go backwards. So he has to deal with the expectations of a top class manager without having the credit in the bank most top class managers carry with them. It's tough.

I think the squad and results to a degree has improved considerably under him. I don't think performances have though and that's my problem. The personnell has changed quite a bit but I still see the same team, flaws, inconsistencies etc I saw 3 years ago. Something you shouldn't have to say about a top coach. As I said earlier, this is a cross we will carry for a while cause he's here to stay.

Oh wow, no we shouldnt. But are you forgetting all the times we played as horrible as we did today?

I wouldn't say we were horrible. I think we were unlucky not to score in the first 15 mins and then frustration grew more and more. To top it off, we conceded a ridiculously stupid goal and that further added to our players' frustration. We were not up to standards, but we weren't horrible.

Had to endure a Liverpool fan at a family get together. He was saying how poor we are and we don’t play together as a team. He was also going on about how much we’ve spent buying players, now I think the Dippers have spent a fair few quid themselves on Allison, VVD etc. Has anyone got any comparison?

Doesnt surprise me if this is the consensus now, bar the 15 mins that was a nothing performance. Even those 15 mins were just all from set pieces really.
