The performance was once again disjointed.
Play like this against City, Liverpool or Chelsea and the game is over in the first half. These sides wouldn't allow unanswered 3 goals in the 2nd half.
Credit to the team for the comeback but against better quality sides it would be a different story.

We have really good quality players. We just need a really good quality manager.

I think the Leicester game was the turning point for me. I don't think he is going to crack it as manager at the club with the likes of Klopp, Pep and Tuchel around. The gulf has become glaringly obvious.

However I think Ole has done great in other aspects as mancheter united manager, which he deserves credit for.

I have to say that I love when he speaks about the fans and the club, the traditions etc. Its really nice to see how much he loves our club and I really do hope that he can win something with us.

Yes world class players can deliver a lot of times and we have a lot of world class players. A lot more than certainly Liverpool. That doesn't negate the issue that he needs to compete with 3 world class managers not only on a one v one but also against the other teams in the league. That is where I see him failing. No point if he cannot win the PL or the CL.

Sir Alex after a Cup Win
To be fair though Ferguson mentioned in that Amazon documentary where that clip was shown that he regretted his reaction. Although I agree that our performance against Atalanta is nothing to get carried away with.

Too much hate in this thread after a great CL comeback against a very good team. Remember that we’re only two months in the new season and it’s too early to make a decisions on the manager because we’re still improving - weather you believe it or not.

The respond by the players tonight shows that they are not messing Around in the CL this year. I cant think of many teams doing the same comeback like tonight.

So lets enjoy this season and see where it takes us!

The season ain’t taking us nowhere mate. It’s not a let’s see it’s pretty much written. He’s not doing nothing and it will continue this way until he is gone and we get a good manager.

It is a good win and we should have won comfortably with the players we have. But he needs to go. He is not good enough to compete at the very top level.

Yep. Really sad that a lot of people can't enjoy a thrilling come back like that. Football is entertainment!!!

Sounds like you believe we’re improving weather we’re actually improving or not, and we’re not. We also didn’t play a very good team.

In what areas have we exactly improved in this season?

We've signed CR7, Varane and Sancho and somehow have managed to look worse than we did last season. We've kept a whooping one clean sheet over something like 20 games and almost always put ourselves in a position where we go behind. Even the games we've won this season such as the Villareal and Wolves games we could have easily lost considering how poor our performances were there. In fact, outside of the Leeds game (where Bielsa loves to persist with his naive tactics) and Newcastle (who are as of now still very shit) I don't think we've played particularly well in any game over the 90 minutes.

I also think you're overrating Atalanta a little bit. Yes they're a good side but they had half a dozen first team players injured, and were essentially fielding a makeshift defence consisting of youngsters and midfielders.

From the Leeds game to the Leicester game we've regressed in pretty much every measurable aspect of football.

He should be sacked. Liverpool will embarrass him on the way out

We're three years into his tenure

I’m sorry but you must not have watched us play this year. Not a single convincing win or performance besides leeds. We’re at the end of October. Not a signle good win. Also, we’re still improving? That is a blatant lie and you know it, we’re getting worse every game. Don’t let a win delude you.

Listen, i’m ecstatic for the win. Screamed at the TV in joy. Doesn’t take away from the fact that Ole is not going to cut it here.

I love this team, and more than anything, I love to see United play well. Don’t care if we win or lose (would obv prefer the former), but we need to play well. We have the players to do so, but not the manager.

I love how deluded some united fans can be sometimes. I am not either a liverpool or united fan, so I can honestly say that the only world class players you have are Varane, DDG and Ronaldo, and liverpool are backed with players that have won PL, CL and other trophies very recently and regarded in their position the best of the best right now.

- They have the 2 best FB in the world.
- One of the best CB in VVD
- The best wingers too in Salah and Mane.
- Their goalkeeper is in the top 5.
- And their DM is also in top 5.

Other top teams that you are supposedly competing with will not allow themselves in the first to be down 2 goals in the first half with such god awful performance.

Think you are doing a massive disservice to guys like Shaw, Pogba, Fernandes, Rashford, Sancho and Greenwood. It's closer than you suggest. Don't let the poor tactics and coaching fool you.

A comeback 3-2 win over an Atalanta team missing 5 first team regulars is certainly entertaining but it's just papering over the massive cracks. When Liverpool gives us a pasting over the weekend, everyone will be back here calling for his head.

Terrific win but i cannot help but think it is just delaying the inevitable. I cannot see us winning anything this year. Out of the league cup as well.
The irony of the win against Atalanta is that we are now more likely to qualify for the CL knock out stages rather than the Europa League, where we would have a realistic chance to win a trophy. Let's be honest, there's 0 chance we can win the CL.

Why are the player's so close to each other? 3 Atalanta players were pressing the ball carrier and about 2 other united player's were very close, so when you passed the ball to either of them, the Atalanta players won't have to move much to cover the next man. One should come close and the other should spread out so they can move the ball around better. It was bugging me tonight. Lost the ball so many times because of that.

Who’s WC at Chelsea then? Please don’t say Lukaku. Or is it just the fact that you have a better manager who can get the team to play? We have plenty of top players. The manager has over time made them look very average. Klopp made guys like Milner and Henderson look WC and even Matip.

I think ole was trying harder tactically when he had somewhat limited resources and lesser quality of players. Him and the staff knew that just by throwing them together on a pitch, it won't accomplish much.

Now with so much attacking talent available, it seems he expecting things to happen on their own rather than coach the basics to what he believes are world class international footballers.

Things seem am over the place with no cohesion and it's foolhardy to belive that the Atlanta win will change much. It's ole and the coaching staff that need to have a word with themselves.

And how many of those Liverpool players you mentioned were deemed world class before they joined Liverpool? Hulls left back? Southampton’s centre back? Roma’s winger?

A disasterous first half and a very familiar second half. What is the difference? First half is the pre-work, so-called tactical setup and the management’s effort. Second half is pure adrenaline and free skill against a jaded Italian side with lesser much lesser players on the pitch, ravaged by injuries. Basically the same as sacking the manager at the interval and telling the players to give them hell, which they did with better motors. Yesterday our superior team won the game with very little help from the manager, it is quite strange how we can be this shit at times. Against better teams from abroad or dare I say Liverpool, a comeback is never on the cards.

I just wish we had a plan B of any kind. We play the same 4-2-3-1 formation no matter what and our subs just come on like for like and slot into that formation. It clearly exposes us at the back. When he said something had to give I was optimistic we'd try something new, not just swap Pogba for Rashford.

Loved his interview after the game, sounds like he's taken some stick for it but I e joyed his emotion etc

Yup… not ashamed to say this but when salah signed for Liverpool I told my Liverpool fan mate that he wasn’t a “United level player”… went well that.
I remember people saying that Liverpool were insane paying 70 million for VVD, terribly overrated player, just a bargain bin Maguire and look at us now. Wonders what a good manager and a properly coached team can do. I also do not believe Fred is really that bad. Obviously not United quality, but I'd be curious as to see what he could do under a manager that knows what he is doing.

He seemed nervous pregame, which is understandable. I think the players are playing for him, contrary to what some believe, but ultimately the tactical set up still isn't good enough. Really enjoyed the second half last night and I'm happy for Ole.

I feel he is 'wasting' this squad which is essentially a one hit opportunity - Ronaldo is old whether people want to believe it or not, so is Cavani. Pogba is free at the end of the season and so is Lingard (say what you want about him but he can be an incredibly useful player at times and in the right system I'm sure he can be consistent). A new manager next season will have to fill in some gaps in the squad, add legs and all sorts. We get rid of Ole now and pay big bucks to get someone decent in and give ourselves a fighting chance to win some silver with this team and avoid having to do a rebuild in the summer and waste next season as we 'jel the players together'

Other than positive vibes, I have not seen much in his actual management ability. I can't think of any player he has really improved. I know people may say Shaw but Shaw was a good player before who was hampered by injuries and had 0 confidence

Just looking at some of the posts here it seems that that match provided just enough ammunition to underpin both viewpoints, allowing everyone who wants to to feel validated in their own pre-set positions on him.

I still think he’ll be gone by the end of the season, but unlikely before.
