It does look a bit bad if Fergie has had to come down. I'm actually fine with Ole for a few more matches until a clear succession plan is in place or at least until the next break or after some of the tough fixtures ahead but things look a bit desperate from the club.

They want to appear reasonable and as if they've treated him in the best possible manner. Truth is that he can go on a little run here and there and we will show fight and quality in many games but they will eventually have to pull the plug even if it's 3 months from now.

Fine he beats Spur's. Then what? He beats Atalanta and loses to City and then what? No point keeping someone, who's simply one or two losses away from being sacked.

What's Ferguson going to say, motivate the players? I think the players are mostly motivated. The issue is our shape and how we're set up. Ferguson could give the most inspiring speech ever but if we play the exact same team as Atalanta and Liverpool we're just going to lose again.

The other problem is that there will be some players that don’t want him as manager anymore and if he’s one loss away will they perform at their best?

So... now everyone knows that they just need to win us with a minimal score and make United look like quite okay-ish for the board, then they won't sack him. Brilliant. I expect 3 narrow losses with an okay gameplan. And he remains. *funny*

Damn these people are plain stupid. Appoint a caretaker (Blanc during Ole interim would have been great actually) now, use the whole squad, boost the morale and just prepare the squad for a permanent manager. How can it be so complicated? :D

And about the contract extensions... it's okay to hand 2 or 3 year contracts, but that's about it. A yearly extension during January would be superb, if things are going according to the plan. And if not, then... just put it on hold. It puts more pressure on the manager as well and just being a polite person with a smile and owning two hands to use them for clapping isn't enough anymore.

I honestly think he'll be here for quite a-bit longer, unfortunately. We're going to revert to the most dour, defensive football imaginable, as he's in survival mode, and will only be looking out for his own interests i.e. keeping his job.

Spurs are an absolutely ideal opponent to implement this style of football against. They too will be playing defensive shite, so Ole will hope to catch them on the counter.

This situation is utterly fecking ridiculous. The rest of the footballing world must be in disbelief that we are actually this much of a shambles. I thought I would be able to endure the rest of his tenure, but the last two league games have been an absolute disgrace. I'm still in disbelief of what's gone on the last few days. My Liverpool supporting mates in the WhatsApp chat haven't even been gloating or taking the piss - I think they feel sorry for our sad state of a club. That in itself is fecking sad.
I wish he had played the defensive game against Liverpool!

Why is Martin Edwards there? I don't understand.
feck knows. The cynical in me thinks that he has been pushed there by Fergie to remind the money man that once upon a time he was under immense pressure to fire Fergie, he didn't do it, and the rest is history. I hope I am wrong.

I just think this period is more for the people at the top to get things in order for the next manager, as opposed to this genuinely being a period in which Ole can save his job.

But with this board, who the feck knows.

Er, surely the problem lately is the exact opposite of "playing it safe". We're playing with an insane level of defensive risk, far too attacking.
playing with 2 "dm's'" is playing it safe. Ole's tactics are basically pass the ball forward and hope on some brilliant move by an attacking player. The rest of the team sits back.
Problem is, it's still very very leaky in the back.

i do have to say it would be incredibly ironic for Ole to get fired after losing against spurs with our record being 4-2-4 in the league, considering that is the stupid ass formation he has been running out for most of it.

that's what I am worried about too.

I wonder if the issue is more to do with the coaches not being able to implement Ole's ideas? As far as I understand, Phelan and Ole watch training from the sidelines (like Ferguson did), and leave the training to Carrick and McKenna, who are both learning on the job. Do they have the know-how to put into effect Ole's plans? I don't know anything about what our training looks like, but I've seen snippets of Guardiola conducting training sessions based on the model of football he wants played and I wonder if Carrick and McKenna are able to do the same. Ferguson outsourced this to others e.g. Queiroz. Perhaps we need a specialist coach and let Ole focus on man management, which I would guess is more in line with his skill set.
The thing is coaches that worth their salt would prefer working under a better manager. Assistant coach is way below the head coach, and manager. Even lower than assistant manager. Why do you accept being undervalued, yet the manager and his assistant manager can't live without your work? It worked with SAF because he has so much credit in the bank, so that he can delegate, and the coaches especially those who individually struggling to make the name for themselves greatly benefit from learning under him. They can leave after some time , with a boost in their credibility.

You have no idea whether Ole has the right ideas in the first place. He has relegated Cardiff and struggling in Championship in his CV ffs. He may as well mess up and affect your future career as a whole. Not worth the risk.

I said this this morning and got slated by @Flytan

Yes I slated you because you were hesitant to actually have an opinion. You were basically saying "OLE IN BABY!! He can do it if he has someone else do his job for him".

You never replied to my post saying Ole doesn't know good coaches. He's a failure of a manager. No one is coming to bail him out of this situation. He doesn't have connections to the elite coaches across Europe because he isn't one of them. His vision not being implemented is HIS RESPONSIBILITY not anyone else's. He should take charge of training if the coaches can't do it. But he can't because he's clueless and honestly you tagging me because someone else has the same delusion as you is annoying.

Also he's a failure in man management too. half the squad has undermined him and said they don't want him here. His situation is untenable and people like you praying to some deity hoping he someone finds someone to do his job for him is pathetic.

What an indictment on our spineless club and weak manager. Needing Sir Alex to come down to the training grounds to be a cheerleader for someone that is unqualified for the job. If there's one easy way to make the players lose whatever respect they had left for Ole as manager, this is it. Good lord, the club needs to go in the shitter before anything is done, as usual. Glad I was around for the glory days of SAF. Under these Glazer cretins, we are not gonna be seeing real success for a long time to come.

I really don't think that's the case at all. I've also voiced concerns over Carrick and McKenna as I don't think they should be here. I know we don't see behind the scenes, but we can see what's happening on the pitch and it isn't good enough. So it's not all on Ole. But I also think that saying, or asking the question, is it down to the fact that they can't implement his style, is giving Ole a bit too much credit.

Also, if that was the case, why hasn't he rectified that? He's going into his 4th season, surely he would have addressed the issue of his caches not being able to implement his specific style by now?

The season will well be over by then. Top 4 hopes would have been over and we would be out of CL . Pogba would have decided to leave and Ronaldo may not be happy with how things are moving.
Again we are a clear example on how not to run a club.

Makes no fecking sense. Watford were more decisive in their decision than us. The man had a 5-0 defeat no one is never ever gonna forget vs Liverpool and the club keeps him...
These men in power at the club are ever reactive. They didn't have any succession plan to account for worst case scenario, and they're unaware of Ole performance across the seasons (many can see that we had been getting away with underwhelming performance for so long, the result and position on the table eventually tend to catch up to the performance, as other teams improve/ return to their high standard). Giving him 3 year extension instead of holding out until the end of this season is already a telling sign regarding our directors. Only recently past week, they wake up to the reality where they need to change the manager; and only Conte is interested, whereas they don't like him.

It only makes sense this way.

Do these people think he’ll turn it around in 3 weeks? Yes we have a decent chance of beating Spurs since they’re not very good themselves, and if we miraculously pull off a draw against City is the board really ready to think “yeah man he changed courses and is the man for the future?”

I can’t believe these people running a club worth billions would think like this. Wow

We’ll always be stuck in this yo-yo state with this guy, unconvincing performances leading to “comeback” wins, followed by multiple reality checks. Ole is a bridge to nowhere.

Even if we manage to win all 3, it's unsustainable that we can meet the demand in long run: challenge for big titles, win smaller trophies, and having an identity. He has almost 3 years, and we're as disjointed as ever. If there is a plan, he would have demonstrated that long time ago.

We will probably either lose marginally or draw at Spurs, lose to Atalanta and get another 5-0 or more drubbing from City, at which point they will reconsider giving him another chance.

Exactly. You don’t go from 5-0 at home to Liverpool in the worst performance in PL history to being successful. There’s no coming back from this.

It’s all hearsay reporting of course, and I love SAF. But goddamn if he’s actually keen for ole to stay then I don’t know what to say.

Sorry, but I don’t see any light in the tunnel right now. The right thing now is probably to search active for a new manager and tell Ole his time is over when they’ve targeted a long term solution.

I hope we don’t jump on temporarily or caretaker solution. Let Ole stay until they found a permanent solution.

Zidane would be an exiting alternative. Maybe the only good available alternative right now. The problem is probably that he reportedly (don’t remember the source) is reluctant to take over United. Probably confirms what Ole has to deal with:nervous: Good managers often avoid problems or mission failure.

What if we beat Spurs and Atalanta but get stuffed by City? Will he have enough credit in the bank to survive that? Absolute joke of a situation, everyone has accepted that he's a dead man walking except our board who are in denial because they clearly love him.

I was not saying Ole In Baby, he can do it if someone else has do the job for him. Ole should leave, as it's clear that there is a very real problem at the club and the players can't do or don't understand what they've been asked to do by the coaches. Yes it his responsibility to tell the coaches in a clearer manner what he wants. BUT....as I was saying, right now, the club clearly do not want to sack him, so if we aren't going to sack him, replace his coaches, who can implement what he wants, which is what Souness actually suggested at the weekend.

"If the board had made their mind up, keep with Ole and that's the game plan for this year, maybe beyond, the manager needs different people around him to point out, what he himself is not seeing, because, cos that's as plain as the nose at the end of your face" 5mins +

So I'm sorry if I don't share your same opinion on the matter, but delusion is stretch, I was simply giving an opinion on what the club can do if they decide to stick by their man, which again, it seems as though they are doing.
