Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says red banners at Old Trafford have hindered their home form

Imagine how City feel. Empty stadium for years, in their colours.

Right out of the Fergie handbook  It's funny and encouraging at the same time seeing Ole starting to get feisty and use all sort of tricks to gain psychological advantage in front of the press.

Psychological ploy from Ole I think.

We lost to Spurs and Palace because our players had just walked off the beach into PL fixtures. Sheff Utd was pure complacency.

I think Ole wants to draw a line under those defeats and move on from this “we struggle at home” narrative

Can someone tell me where in the video Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says red banners at Old Trafford have hindered their home form

This does bring back memories of Sir Alex talking about how the grey shirts that we wore in the 1996-97 season were difficult to spot by the players and played a role in some of the heavy losses at the time.

Fergie had a vision specialist, and the players used to do eye exercises. Think she helped Scholes a lot with his eyesight problems.

Even if it helps by 1% it's worth it.

yeah, and if I remember correctly from the Quickly Kevin podcast with Gary Neville, Fergie was against the grey shirts from the beginning.

Watched a video of Giggs earlier who said that hugely helped him adapt to CM.

In the video. That is a short extract from the press conference just about this point.

He doesn’t say it’s hindered our home form, he says a few of the players mentioned it but it shouldn’t be an issue, he said they changed to black due to the anti-racism campaign.

They ask the question about our home from and he says. You should see that change now that we've changed the banners. We've looked into it and some player say that for that split second when you look over your shoulder and the red shirt is on the red background. So when we did the antiracism campaign it was important that it wasn't red anymore.

Becoming alot more confident and commanding during his press conferences, really growing into the role the more time goes on. Getting under Mourinho's skin was just the icing on the cake. Loved Noah's comments to.

I love Ferguson, unbelievable amount of respect for him and think he's definitely the greatest manager of all time.

But there was certainly some justice handed out by the Gods when we lost 6-3 the season after blaming the kits for losing 3-1 at the same ground.

He could very well be right. If anything to help play better then so be it.

Southampton tried to do this when Arry Redknapp was manager and they had Clive Woodward fresh off his Rugby World Cup win as performance coach. He brought in a vision coach but had the piss taken out of him by Redknapp who kept on talking about the ‘mince pies’ coach
They gave up in the end

He might have a point, I've read that goalkeeper jersey colours can impact stikers decision making - bright colours attract the strikers eye better and something about them unconsciously aiming toward it. On the other side colours that don't stick out in front of the goal/crowd may cause the striker to delay the shot slightly because they have to check where the keeper is. No idea if there were ever any studies done on this.

If things don't change for the better, he's going to look a bit stupid.

im sure I remember something about Schmeichel having gaudy goalkeeper kits due to it impacting on the opposition

When it comes to making instinctive decisions based on peripheral vision then certain colour contrasts can make the difference. There is something in it. Remember when Ronaldo used to wear the white tape around his ankle? It's the same reason why Michael Jackson wore white socks with black shoes and trousers. It draws the eyes to the ankle and not to the ball, so when defending Ronaldo, it was helpful.

In fairness, given how few games we played in that grey kit it has to be up there as one of our most famous kits.

I don't think this is that far fetched, especially since Ole says a few players mentioned the issue to him.

One example of color affecting perception: A Chinese spear designed for martial arts will often have horse mane dyed red on the end of it just before the spear tip. If you keep swishing it about the red mane confuses the eyes about where exactly the tip is.

As someone who is colourblind I am completely unsurprised by this even being a thing. Having said that I find a lot of games on tv a kit clash.

While I don't think this can be used as a serious excuse, even a 1% improvement can help at this level.

This is the type of comment that looks stupid or funny but if Guardiola came out with it, everyone will be creaming themselves about his attention to detail, etc.

He won't really though, because he was clever enough to downplay it a bit and say shouldn't be any issue.

It's a comment that we would probably rip Klopp or Pep over but in reality basics like needing your teams shirt colour to stand out and contrast that of the opponents and the surroundings is a pretty obvious one.

Weirdly I was looking at the banners a good while back and was thinking exactly this, that the players shirts would blend into the background colour. I noticed this as when a pass was played out to the wing for a split second I thought it was a miss-hit pass as I didn't notice the player who was receiving the ball. So I think it sounds silly but probably has a relevance at this level.

Most football fans this is a joke
I'd ask them to play Cricket as a Batsman and see why a Backscreen is important.

Same with hoardings that change and blink with flashing colours right in player's sight lines.

I was watching one match recently and a player appeared out of thin air. That's when I realized that the kit blended in perfectly with one of the advertisements and when it changed he went from invisible to visible. I think it was one of our recent away games where we were wearing the dark kit.
