He's saying the right things again.
First sign of some summer plans for Ole, so thought it warranted a thread.

I especially like the bit about personality and who will fit the bill. That's massively key for us, especially while we're striving to improve. There'll be rocky periods and strong personalities will see us through.

To be fair he does not say we are getting 4 players. He just says we will add quality players. In other words at least two players.

Ole is a smart man. Im sure we will do just in the summer window.

Meanwhile, the DoF topic is still being discussed seriously.

Couldn’t agree more. Bring in Sancho & De Ligt and let’s go

Looking for players not 4 players, standards keep dropping, eh? (Edit: writing standards, just in case)

On the DoF, I guess we need not worry about another manager hiring for yet another different philosophy to ours.

That said, I do worry about whether we are getting feelers out or will wait for Ole to be full time and throw him into a mad Summer player chase.

Not Moyes all over again, please.

It's not happening. The manager identifies players and Woodward works with his subordinates to get the players. Both LVG and Mou talked about their list that they give to Woodward and that Woodward is responsible for getting the players.

Why would Woodward take away power from himself? Investment banker turned CEO that is benevolent and admits his own weaknesses yeah right

Sounds like the words of a manager staying longer than this season.

Putting in “4” instead of “for” classic click bait Simon :nono:

Reading between the lines, hopefully this means no more Sanchez/Falcao/Schweinsteiger type signings and back to proper Man Utd signings instead - young, pacy and skillful.

There's no reason we shouldn't spend huge on a fairly young CB to partner Lindelof (Smalling is 30 and flawed but a perfect 3rd CB, sadly Bailly challenging for a starting spot now looks like a bonus and not something we expect) and similarly at RW to give us a proper creator on that side to balance Pogba on the left.

RB and midfield I think we can save some money by signing a ready now but not necessarily potentially world class RB to let Dalot grow into the job and a young DM or CM with potential but who needs a bit of time since we do have 4 seemingly decent midfielders in Pogba, Herrera, Fred and Matic and hopefully one of Lingard or Pereira as a 10 and McTominay as a 6 can do specific jobs effectively too. We could wait for a year there without it being a problem if Fred can live up to his fee or Matic have a final great year with more rest to help him on that score.

But yeah. Absolute feck off buys, prodigy teens (De Ligt, Sancho) or early 20s types at CB and RW, even if it costs 90% of our money and we're going for a Chicharito or Blind sort of buy at RB that one of the scouts likes or stuck behind a great RB.

CB, RW, CDM and RB have to be the priority positions for us to sign players. CB top priority, RW second, CDM 3rd, RB 4th.

RB 4th? Young can't keep getting away with it, Valencia is leaving and Dalot is still a bit green.

Personally i think I'd go RB, CB, RW and I'm not sure they'll even go that far.

Think this is the second time Solskjaer said about long term players, which means we are signing young players with potential. Should be interesting which players we target this summer.

RB: Wan Bissaka 40m
CB: De Ligt 70m
CM: Neves 60m
RW: Sancho 80m

=250m

Sell/Let go:
Valencia
Rojo 10m
Jones 15m
Mata 15m
Sanchez 25m
=65+10 (Fellaini)=75m

Total spent=175m

All young players that can give 10 years for the club and we should be set for a couple of seasons.

He will get quality players who are still young and not yet reach their peaks.

De Ligt, Sancho

We will also likely have a unique opportunity with Chelsea and most probably City banned from the transfer market. These are the clubs that directly compete with us for players. So with them out of the way, we should make the most of the next two windows.

2 won't be enough. We need minimum 4 though.

I really think Woodward could have tried shopping for an experienced RB in the January window. If we had lucked out, then atleast it wouldn't have to be Ashley Young vs Barcelona. Assume Dalot is not yet ready.

Just sign De Ligt and Sancho and we're winning septuple next season (we're winning FA Cup and CL this year)

So no Harry Kane then?
Honestly I don't care if they're young nor fast, just players who can perform for the next 5 years and are a fit for the required role. People just get too giddy about teenagers with pace.

If Ole is the man for the job I'm pretty sure he'll have his 'for' quality players identified.

This effectively rules out Koulibaly, Alderweireld, Bale, maybe even Manolas, not sure that is the way to go, with several senior players set to leave. We need a mix of older quality players to.

Signing past-it players is obviously unwise, but a team who exclusively signs players for the future will never truly arrive.

That'd do me.

Young but not completely "inexperienced"..... already shown some mental character in dealing with top games at an early age and/or moving to push/further themselves.

I'd rather spend all the budget on these two/these positions than four 'ok' players. We're fine for goalie(s), Shaw has really stepped up in recent months, I can make do with Dalot/Young at RB, midfield good (though still not convinced about Matic), attacking players good.

A CH to pair up with Lindelof is key for me... Van Dijk shows that one top CH adds more to a defence than just their own ability.... talent and leadership (and I think De Ligt can be that) improves the entire defence and the entire team (let's midfield look forward not back).

De Gea

Dalot De Ligt Lindelof Shaw

Matic

Herrera Pogba

Sancho Rashford Martial

looks good to me and good (bar a couple of players) for years to come.

(Edit. Rabiot on a free would be good too... "liking" Evras post PSG video hasn't endeared him to PSG).

Good.

Would have loved him several years ago but not now... not looking to take Real's cast-offs and get stung on price. £20m, maybe else no.

If we can sign Sancho and Rabiot thats quality and the right age right there with those two, hope we bring them in.

Would love this but it's not realistic. All the 4 signings you mention will cost more, with Sancho going for at least a Dembele fee (£135+). Mata is leaving on a free and there's no way we'd get £25m for Sanchez; in fact, we might well have to pay to part with him. You've got the profile of players and quality spot on though.

Positive words from Ole and that seems more in line of a sustainable transfer strategy. Getting world class players in a good age like we did with Pogba is a no brainer but bringing very talented world class talents seem to work for the best. Let's hope this rules out Koulibaly and we go all in on de Ligt. If we can get de Ligt, Sancho and Rabiot for free, it would be a great summer window.

Great to hear from Ole. Hopefully it means more Pogba esque signings and no more Sanchez, BFS, Falcao signings. We have more money than most, lets fecking spend it on the elite players who are the right age profile

People keep saying Wan Bissaka. Would be completely nonsensical to sign another young RB when Dalot is already fancied.

A veteran RB is what we should be looking at but that's probably going to be Young for next season with Dalot taking the reigns as the number 1.

Yeah laugh all you want at Stone for writing '4' instead of fecking 'for' but by the looks of it it's caught on here.
