I want to like Pogba. I've never cared about his hair or his persona, or even, up to a point, the nonsense from his entourage; as long as he can contribute to the team and results. It seemed before this injury, he was doing so - some good perfomances and a couple of match-winning goals suggested he could make those contributions. From what we hear, he's well-liked in the squad and I think he typically responds well to OGS's management of him: at the start when OGS took over, he'd clearly told Pogba to make a statement against Mourinho's 'virus' comments which saw him show probably the best run of form since we signed him. OGS is apparently not afraid of taking Pogba out of the team if his form is off as we saw earlier this season (frustratingly, unlike how Martial or De Gea are managed), which Pogba seemed to respond to leading to his most recent improvement - in particular he seemed much more focussed and disciplined.
The cynic in me thinks maybe this upturn in form is him looking to get a new deal or put himself in the shop window; but this is conjecture and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. It's just as possible he sees we have... well, had a chance of winning the league - or at least put in more of a title challenge than before. Maybe this is what is motivating him to up his game?
However, his inconsistency is the main reason I'd be happy if we got rid in the summer for a reasonable fee (70m+ would seem fair). He seems as likely to give away a stupid penalty to lose a game than to dominate midfield. He's a little like Veron was - clearly technically gifted, but not really able to fit into a system that works and provides a balance. He doesn't seem to work in tandem as well as other midfielders in the squad do, and as such is shunted about to accommodate him. Losing him wouldn't be losing a key player of our team, but we'd certainly need to re-invest in midfield if we did sell.
