Paul Scholes 1 or 2 champions leagues ?

Fair enough that Scholes agrees with me.

Historically cup medals were given out to the people that were in the squad for the final, maybe things have changed these days, i dunno. Roy Keane appears to agree too.
Please tell me more about this ancient and hallowed tradition before my sides completely split from laughing

Scholes got that equaliser at Inter and Keane was inspirational getting is past Juve (and Berg with his goal-line clearances against Inter), it would be ridiculous if they didn't get a medal. They played more of a part in the campaign than Sheringham for example.

Nope, shouldn't get one. Neither should Sheringham or Solskjaer as they didn't start the final in 99.

It's a cup competition, if you don't play in the final you don't get a medal. It's generally accepted practice, you don't get a medal for playing in earlier rounds.

Why on earth would it count ?
Except you do, because the team wouldn't have made the final without you. You do realise cup competitions are more than one match long, right?

Ronaldo scores 15 goals and misses the final to be replaced by Bebe, and Bebe gets the medal instead of Ronaldo? Because.. FINAL!

Generally accepted practice inside your bum

It's two whether he likes it or not but Scholes can think what he likes - that's fine. The fact is him and Keane WOULD have played in the final but for the stupid suspensions that could have cost us the tie. It's nice how it ended, but we'd have played FAR better with those two.

Indeed. The man himself says he's won it once but many so called "fans" are calling him a liar.
That's just Scholes being Scholes. So does that mean John Terry hasn't won a Champions League then?

He's won it twice. He was excellent in 1999 and was big part of why we reached the final.

TIL.

It's like finding out Santa isn't...

I wish that what his punishment for his cringe-tastic appearance at the end.

Scholes will only have 1 medal because he's only played in 1 final. He'd probably still say he's won 2 because really he has, but he'll only have 1 medal.

That's what I thought anyway, although I don't agree with it!

Which arsehole did you pull that one out of

Ridiculous thread.

So a player could score 1,000,000 goals in every single game but miss the final through injury/suspension and not be deserving of a medal? Riiiiiiiight.

He's said that he's got two medals but considers himself a one-time winner.

I understand it if a player doesn't feel like a winner when he only watched the final from outside the pitch. It makes sense that Scholes feels much more proud about the one in 2008, when he actually played the final. Doesn't mean that everyone else shouldn't tell him that he was part of the winning team and deserves to have the medal. It would be silly otherwise.

Really?! That's ridiculous.

I thought to get a medal you need to be included in the final squad, but that could've ended years ago (good). Surely Scholes recognises his contribution to the '99 win?

Scholes is a two-time Champions League winner, who has won one Champions League final.

Keane is a one-time Champions League winner, who never won a Champions League final.

Maybe there is a better way to express that, but that's the thick of it.

So a guy is instrumental in his team reaching the final, scores a hat trick in every group and knockout game, injures his hamstring in the warm up. He isn't a Champions League winner and is undeserving of a medal?

That's what Paul Scholes and I think.

Who are the rest of you to disagree with a legend (and Paul Scholes).

Ei? Harsh! I didn't play in the final for our county cup but still got a medal. Why? Because had I not scored and won a penalty in the quarter final, the team wouldn't even be in the final. FFS even Vermaelen got a medal for his 10 minute UCL cameo last season for Barca
Vermaelen pinched one on the sly, and later had to give it back.

no it isn't?

Understand totally why he feels a one time winner. The final is the only game that matters, no one gives a hoot about how you got there. The whole success and failure and achievement is down to the 90+ minutes in that one game.

Complete nonsense. The final only matters if you win the semi finals and so on and so forth. To disregard the entire tournament and only count the final is devoid of any logic. Plenty of games lead to cup wins and plenty of games matter.

Scholes has 2, for sure. He and Keane have said they don't recognize their 99 medals, but they definitely got them.

Shoot, Barca recently gave one to Vermaleen, despite having not played in a single game that season (pretty sure UEFA made him give it back, though).

It's more of a sentiment thing. He didn't play on the big night so doesn't feel he's earned it. But he has, leaving sentiment aside. That's just how it is. Although you feel like the final is everything, it simply isn't, and the whole tournament matters.

What you are saying is if in the all the knockout games Player A had scored 2 goals in each and each game finished 2-1 and he was suspended for the final that means he wouldn't get a medal because he didn't play the final even thought if he wasn't there they wouldn't have got to the final in the first place...
