There was a doping violation when he was at Bayern. Alcantara missed a drugs test whilst recovering from injury. Something Rio Ferdinand got banned for 9 months for in England. Alcantara agent is Pep’s brother etc.
There is an infamous scene in the german movie about the WC '06 where Olli Kahn gets told his pee cup isn't full enough, he gets mad and slams cup plus content in a corner.

Reaction professional cyclist when watching this: "Hahahaha! *Any* cyclist would get a 4 year ban for that. No questions asked!"

Bottom line: The way doping controls are handled in professional football is very sloppy everywhere.

Something can't be right here, if Pep and his doctors know some sort of miracle cure for all injuries then every team would be using said doctor?

I bet Hargreaves wished he had played under Pep.

To be fair it's almost two weeks since his injury and just a day or two after it, reports were coming from City's camp that hopefully he can be back in 4 weeks. Also, Stones was out with a hammy for 7 weeks while everyone thought it will be about 4-6 weeks, so those magic injections from Barcelona don't provide the solution all the time. Not to mention that so far his form seems to recall last season's!

I know, football doesn't seem to care about PEDS. Pep's Barca and City side both breached the 'whereabouts' rule to a degree that sees track athletes get a 1-2 year competition ban, City got fined a few quid.

City don't need defensive reinforcements now so Stones is the "see this is proof we don't dope" card :wenger:

I'm sure it's just a complete coincidence that his players magically experience feats of physical endurance that are noticeably above other teams abilities..

I really can't wait until those Fuertes blood samples are finally checked. It's too late for bans or punishments, but at least it'll finally blow the lid off this whole thing.
When do we actually find out about those Fuertes blood samples?

Soon? Never?

Given only recently we saw how corrupt FIFA was, it's sad but probably true that there's a lot of stuff going on in football behind the scenes.

There's so much money in football they should just create a team of specialist doctors who attend games and spring surprise tests pre or post match. Keep them on their toes.

Isn't that exactly what actually happens? Just ask Phil Jones.

Stem cells maybe as the previous user said?
The best way to aid recovery from injury is to increase oxygen flow, there are PEDS for that, EPO for one. That is where the suspicion comes from.

You would have to question Zlatan too though, coming back so quickly at his age.

Is that against the rules?
Yes, WADA did put an end to it in 2005 but Ramón Cougat from Hospital Quiron still treats players. Esp players from Spain, but also players from PL, Serie A, Bundesliga etc..

Stem cell therapy for Jesus. What is bizarre is certain clubs like the London ones have access to Harley Street doctors and professionals, yet their injury records are terrible. City have had the money to get the best care, yet only when Guardiola arrived have we seen considerable improvement in terms of their fitness and stamina. Maybe it's who you know, not what.

Let's finish 2nd. If they got caught doping , we will be crowned champion
If they got caught doping, they should be fined and relegated. It questions the whole integrity of the sport.

I'm not for one minute suggesting City are a team full of dopers, but you have to be pretty naive thinking doping doesn't go on in the sport. Anyway it just feels like it's a season where everything has fallen into place for City. So it should come crashing down the next. :)

Stems Cell therapy wouldn't be considered doping would it? The treatment itself is still not conclusive or at least in the US. EPO on the other hand would make sense given their energy level late in games.

Yeah what I wonder is if there are methods that improve fitness so much why don't other teams use it. Although it could be the same regarding how teams train and what methods they use. Some might be ahead of the others.

Why Pep would know all these special drug dealers seem strange. Although might be easier to do things in Spain and he uses it.

Nope. Ronaldo reportedly used it last year, and lots of NFL stars have had the treatment.

Anyone interested in how you can get around drug testing I'd suggest you watch the film 'Icarus' (It's on UK netflix for those who have it). That documentary alone has convinced me that pretty much all sports have some form of PED issue.

I don't mind doping discussions at all and have given my rather cynical opinions on this subject plenty of times on here. I don't even mind a thread in which there is only discussion about Pep's doping use being linked to City's current form. It's just that I can't believe we're having this thread with this title. Like literally, I can't understand why the title has not been changed to something like 'Doping in modern football' or 'Doping | Do you suspect any of our rivals using doping?'.

It's even more confusing because there's a clear precedent on RedCafe of moderators feeling the need to censor other suggestive or clickbait-esque thread titles.

Not that I care about the precedents. Somehow I just genuinely feel that this specific thread title is one of the most incredible small-time things I've ever seen on here and I can't understand for the life of me why it's accepted.

It's the question mark cowardly put inside parentheses that's riling me up to no end.
Well as I created the thread let me speak as it has annoyed you so much for some reason. The question mark is because given Pep's history, there are question marks on him and if you have done the research you would see there is evidence (and speculation to boot) of his usage, so I created the thread to discuss that. Turns out the thread has brought a bigger discussion of peds in football into it and with that there has been some excellent posts.

Low key crying about moderation is ridiculous. It's a forum for God sake.

To me a thread (with a title) like this a week after losing the derby and the league to City comes across as the RedCafe version of Mourinho suggesting the UEFA was favouring Barcelona because they were sponsored by UNICEF after losing the semi-finals of the Champions League. I don't like it, but to each his own I guess.

Hopefully you can find some reassurance in the fact that I'm not actually interested in getting something moderated, it was merely an attempt to express my genuine surprise that this thread is still around.

Anyone else not care about PED use in football?
No i don't. It seems like Pep is somewhat of an outlier in that he is very obvious in his use of 'special doctors'. He even had a falling out with the Bayern medical staff because they wanted to treat their own players and he wanted the 'special doctor' to treat them.

It would be nice if every time a player got injured he could have some special treatment and he would have a chance of his recovery being sped up significantly. I think doping makes the environment better for everyone except the footballing organisations that want to pocket doping money under the carpet.

What about the spike in on pitch deaths in the 00’s in Spain when EPO doping was rumoured to be prevalent?

If everything is in the open; there would be a much more thorough process for mitigating side effects. I can be quite confident in saying that EPO deaths almost always require a pre-existing condition or genetic history. And a lot of deaths come from medical malpractice.

The nature of EPO means that it is very difficult to die from it when dosed correctly. I have yet to read of a person dying from EPO that wasn't mis using it in some way. It's the case with pretty much every enhancement on the market; so long as you are not predisposed to side effects and dose it modestly you're alright.
