Player who would excel in all positions on the pitch

Pick a former United player who would be competent in most positions on the pitch.

I'm going with Rooney, I think he'd play all positions bar CB at a pretty high level (yes, even goalie)
 
Read the title, wanted to say Rooney. As he is named in the OP I go for Park. I guess he would not be suited to CB, but I think he would at least be a decent player in every other position.
 
I reckon Bryan Robson or Mark Hughes would give a decent performance in any position.
 
Wazza is obvious answer, also couldn’t argue with sparky or robson.
 
Giggs could play left back. Left mid and left wing. CM and DM. No.10 and maybe even. Sweeper in his latter years.
 
Rooney is the obvious one, as has been stated.

Giggsy played on the wing, CM and LB at some point.

Pre his physical decline I think Alexis would have done a decent job at most positions on the field

Griezmann is another one I think would excel anywhere.

Generally any player who is technically proficient, physically capable and a hard worker, I think could do a job in most positions.
 
Ronaldo.

Even as a goalkeeper he would be one of the best, he is relatively tall, great reflexes, fantastic jumping ability.

But why become the best goalkeeper ever, or even the best defender ever, when you can get the world record of the most goals scored?
 
Rooney is the only answer really, he literally was everywhere on the field.

Literally one of the greatest players of all time. He was always going to be appreciate more in retirement as he kind of declined earlier than some do due to lifestyle and his body type.

You actually look back at how good he was and it's absolutely incredible. He's in with a good shout of being our greatest ever player.

Ronaldo had everything Rooney had, plus tremendous jumping ability (important for being a top CB).
 
John O' Shea's the obvious one, not Rooney. He actually played all across the backline, and in midfield for United and kept a clean sheet when thrown in goals.
 
Again, I trust people who know better than me, and it has to be Duncan Edwards on that account. People who played with him played with three Ballon d’Ors (or similar), and said he would be the best player in the team regardleas of which position he played in. They put him in a center half position because then he could save them in defence, then run all across the pitch and crush the opponents in attack as well. Some myths … well, some myths have credible eye witnesses. And don’t ask me to provide quotes or names, I’ve had a couple of glasses of wine. But you know it’s pretty true.

John O’Shea needs a mention. Which United goalie put the ball in the scousers’ net? It’s just one answer.

I’d be interested seeing Steve Bruce as Joe Jordan’s replacement, Norman Whiteside could have played anywhere, Bryan Robson did, Roy Keane finished off the rests. And if I could only have one substitute to a CL final and I had players in all parts of the field with niggles going into the game - I wouldn’t feel bad with Alan Smith chugging the woodwork beside me.
 
Giggs

Rooney was pretty rubbish in midfield, maybe fitness got the better of him but we weren't expecting that much, he thought he could slot into it and be Scholes esque but quickly realized it's tough. Playing there and appearing to be all over the pitch are different things.

Giggs has shown he can play at many positions to a very good level.
 
Paul McGrath what a player, at home anywhere on the pitch.
Had I seen Duncan Edwards probably him from the reports I‘ve read about him.
 
Agree with all the names mentioned, so won’t repeat them. Will instead mention some other highly versatile players:

Phil Neville
Ronny Johnsen
Owen Hargreaves
Brian McClair

But no one will ever beat the most versatile player ever according to Championship Manager 93-94……I give you….Paul Warhurst. Who, according to the game was able to play every position on the field brilliantly.
 
Michael Essien loves calculators so I reckon he's into excel too.
 
Well I think Beckham would do well in many positions.

And agreed with Giggs. He's skillful, good passer and crosser, very fast, hardworker, creative, and decent tackler and goalscorer.
 
Currently? Luke Shaw (pre leg break) or Casemiro. Technically excellent players that can attack and defend.

Reece James I'm convinced would do well in any position (fitness permitting)
