Freak results do happen. We need to see how the team performs over the next two games to conclude it's a freak result, but I do think it is.A few days later and I still can't get my head around how a team with Varane, Martinez and Casemiro in it could let this happen. If they couldn't control the team then we probably need to rethink ideas like "right back / goalkeeper / centre midfield / etc might not be immediate priorities in the summer."
I'm not sure what to think of the argument of "it's one result", I can't stop thinking of Keano's quote after Liverpool thrashed us 5-0 at Old Trafford...
“There are too many bluffers, and ultimately these players will cost Ole his job. The players he has got there, they threw the previous manager under the bus, and they will do the same to Ole.”
Have we got rid of enough of the bluffers?
Says a lot for the standards of our fanbase that many were so ready to laud Weghorst. Yes he was a creative solution to a problem but he's so far below the level that's required, it's actually laughable.Tweet

I mean come on, don’t do that shit ffs.

A fair assessment.Still not got my head around how shockingly poor and just plain childish that performance was.
Quite genuinely the worst I've ever seen from any professional sports team, and even if I include school games etc. I've been involved in, in terms of the attitude I think it's still a very strong contender. The worst part being that I really don't think that's being all that dramatic. If anything I'm being harsh on school teams.
It's not even like they were put in a difficult position by the ref etc. They conceded two shite goals due to their own pretty basic defensive errors, and then used that as an excuse to conduct the biggest and most prolonged sulk/tantrum ever seen on live television.
How am I meant to carry on taking this bunch of players seriously when I know that's how they react to things not going their way?
The only person coming out with any credit is Ten Hag, because he must be working miracles to make a group pf players capable of that look like a good football team.
I'd be shocked if one of them wasn't Luke Shaw.As an aside , Roy Keane and others mentioned on Sunday about a few Utd players either just before or after half time laughing and talking to stewards just outside the tunnel. Has anyone in the media reported on who those players were?
I would tend to agree, and when you look at the side there's not too many who played in that fixture who played in this one, certainly not enough to make you think the problem would still exist. The result was worse though, so it just raises some questions. We effectively got rid of enough bluffers/players who weren't good enough/old legs
Find your solace where you can but for goodness sake, XG is the biggest load of fecking wank ever brought into football analysis.I may be one of the rare few who is a bit more forgiving about the result. Obviously, its undeniable that the players clearly lost their heads in the second half and the performance regardless of the scoreline was shocking. But to be honest, this was a 3-1 or 4-1 worthy performance rather than the actual scoreline, as is proven by xG. In multiple goals (both Salah goals I think), random ricochet fell perfectly for him to finish. We've seen worse performances last season itself where we conceded a goal in the first few minutes and then got battered the remaining match. This game was more toe to toe where the team was pushing for goals even at 3-0 down.
We take one on the chin and yes, we will get bantered for this for a long time. But winning is our only revenge and the only way to get back on the horse.
I'm one of the few. We were the better team in the 1st half and then everything that could go wrong went wrong in the 2nd half. The Firmino goal was pretty weird also as it went by at least three players.I may be one of the rare few who is a bit more forgiving about the result. I haven’t watched any football. Not listened to any radio. Read any media. Im still in shock. For the first time in my life I could not sleep after a defeat. I kept waking up and ended up being a zombie at work. I'm not even super upset and I've been angry this season for other results. Just confused more then anything, or shell shocked even.
The good news is that it's still only 3 points. The bad, it's going to be a result that will be remembered for many decades now and it has the potential to upset the confidence we've been building this season. I hope the later is not the case but regardless, we've got the worst possible example for how light out squad is and the results of not being able to rotate.
ETH passed all the tests thus far, now he has another: get the team back on it's feet and go again.
He doesn't though does he? Pogba would have been in Dubai and Ronaldo would have been too busy looking at his own reflection to see the sign in the first place.Says a lot for the standards of our fanbase that many were so ready to laud Weghorst. Yes he was a creative solution to a problem but he's so far below the level that's required, it's actually laughable.
That guy has a point as well, if that was Ronaldo/Pogba touching the sign the knives would be out on here.
I go on media silence after any defeat but still, it's just a PL game and all banter aside, we did win a trophy and are good for top 4. It was the mother of all "it just happens" but that is all. A shock to be sure, but we get back to wining now and it's just one of those things. 8 shots on target 7 goals, our shit and unprofessional performance aside, it was a once in a decade or more situation. Klopp got 7 in the bag a few years ago, we put 8 past L' Arse, it happens and that is all.I haven’t watched any football. Not listened to any radio. Read any media. Im still in shock.
I tried to watch the Brentford V Fulham game last night, but had to turn it off after a couple of minutes.
I don’t think I’ll ever recover from this. It just doesn’t make sense.
Liverpool 7-0 Man Utd
I would be sick to the stomach if I saw this score line on my lads FIFA game!
Fred was one just after half time on way back out. I remember thinking it just looked off at the time. No concentration or annoyance at the situation. As an aside , Roy Keane and others mentioned on Sunday about a few Utd players either just before or after half time laughing and talking to stewards just outside the tunnel. Has anyone in the media reported on who those players were?
Every ex Liverpool player is coming out from under their rock on Sky Sports News.
I think their has been a complete over reaction by the media for what was a disastrous 45 minutes of football ... what can go wrong will go wrong and all that.
I hope the players and ETH see all this rubbish and come back twice as strong.
United coming back and dominating like a few years ago would upset so many in the media, I look forward to those days.
It's one of the reasons they're so obnoxious. Gloating is second nature to them. They're bad losers but even worse winners.Have to say that some of the reactions from Liverpool pundits and fans had me fooled into thinking they'd won the PL and CL this season already...
That was one of the main reasons I was so shocked. Rafa and Case have seen it all, won it all and aren't phased by hostile atmospheres while I thought Licha thrived in that environment. Them being there, on and off the field, helped me think results like this had gone. I'm still staggered they were key parts of it all.A few days later and I still can't get my head around how a team with Varane, Martinez and Casemiro in it could let this happen.
Once in a decade? It’s becoming a seasonal event.I go on media silence after any defeat but still, it's just a PL game and all banter aside, we did win a trophy and are good for top 4. Don’t know where to start with that. If you don’t think it shows a double standard we can just disagree. He doesn't though does he? Pogba would have been in Dubai and Ronaldo would have been too busy looking at his own reflection to see the sign in the first place.
Weghorst is just enjoying being here, in what is probably his last ever season at this level. He's enjoying himself and making memories, last weekend was the wrong kind of memories but he won't be here come August so who cares if he touches a sign?
One players runs himself into the ground on a regular basis, another can’t wait to be subbed off because he’s ripped his sock. I’d say Weghorst cares more than Pogba ever did during his time here.Don’t know where to start with that. If you don’t think it shows a double standard we can just disagree.

0-5

7-0
not even relegated teams get school this regularly by those feckers!
Well, only one of those results happened this decade. So yes.Once in a decade? It’s becoming a seasonal event.

You can't just move on, this was a seven nil defeat. Seven nil.Close this thread so we can move on please

??If what Luke Shaw has said about foot off the gas following the cup final is true, the result might be a horrific blessing in disguise.

I don't think we should ever have been thinking of putting those positions on the backburner, they are clearly the difference between us potential being a dominant european team and where we are now. I don't think the GK would change us quite as much as people think. At the end of the day, DDG has been a strong, loyal player for us and deserves the time to fully adapt, particularly as there are more concerning positions.A few days later and I still can't get my head around how a team with Varane, Martinez and Casemiro in it could let this happen. How about just moving on past the thread and ignoring it if it upsets you so much.Agreed.
