PL L FA Premier League

Arsenal 3:0 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Sun, 04 October 2015

Liverpool didn't destroy us, we should've won with Ramseys goal. West Ham are beating everyone.
Except Sunderland! Who would have thunk it? Here, I thought football matches were always won by the better team, regardless of form, circumstances and fortune!

This place can get hysterical easily. We are a much better side than what we saw today.

Just tactically naive for me from LVG. We have a mdfield 3 that could dominate arsenal easy enough, instead we insist on playing 4-4-2 in every single game even away from home, and hoping that 35 year old carrick and 31 year old schweinsteiger can win the game for us in there.

For years we have watched schneiderlin demolish arsenal's midfield and he just sits on the bench.

Just arrogance from LVG to think we could play 2 defenders in the back 4, two in CM and carry rooney for the whole first half and win.

Ye we looked better in second half but only because they put 11 men in their box and killed the game.

Swap rooney for herrera and carrick or schwein for schneids and that was a different looking game, even with two midfields in our back 4

This game was simply lost by Van Gaal.
  1. Schneiderlin is the perfect player against a team as fast going forward like Arsenal, especially when playing with Young at full back, a proper DM has to start. Carrick was a mess, he wasn't the worst player but he was definitely the wrong player to bd coupled with Schweinsteiger to form a very slow defensive midfield which allowed Arsenal to dominate us from the first minute.
  2. Game Management - 20 minutes in, 3:0 Arsenal, something if not everything is not working, make a sub or at least go to the sidelines and shout instructions, do something. Nothing. Okay, but when the subs do come at HT, it's the wrong ones. Depay was bad, but without him we lost the movement upfront with Martial that opens space, Rooney and Mata won't bring it. Valencia for Darmian isn't bad and the idea behind Fellaini, but again, after all we've seen in the first half how can Carrick stay on the pitch? And why not Schneiderlin? Too little too late.
Horrible coaching

Arsenal's Theo Walcott speaking to Sky Sports: “There was a desire from kick-off, we looked very strong and were dominate at home against a big team and we should be playing like that every week. The players will be aching after that one, we worked so hard and rightly so.

"That was all for the manager.

"That first-half we were unbelievable, no-one could have dealt with us, it was the best football I have ever been involved in. It was the Arsenal of old."

Fact is players should never have to do that.Arsenal should be trying game after game.

Man Utd are just bottlers who lack a winning mentality. It was clear from their body language.

I hope this is sarcasm based on all this being said about Arsenal over the years.

We really shouldn't put this amount of responsibility on Memphis' shoulders when he clearly isn't ready for it.

We really shouldn't put this amount of responsibility on Rooney's shoulders when he's clearly not good enough for it.

Deserved win for Arsenal, can't deny them that. If anything, today's match proved that we only play one way of football and we really don't have any game changers coming off the bench, could that be due to our very small squad? I'm not too sure yet but early signs point to that.
Personally i feel with the way LvG sets us up there is a lot of variety in our play. The problem we have is we have two players atm who arent pulling their weight. In the attacking third we have Rooney and Memphis who arent doing their job. Memphis' work rate is absolutely appalling, and hes not doing it in the offensive third either. Rooney... Well what do you do with Wayne Rooney, hes our captain so almost a dead cert to start but to accommodate him the whole teams balance looks off. Matas been good out on the left cutting in but i think hes more disciplined to naturally play the number 10 role - Rooney just goes looking for the ball only to recycle it out to the wing.

Sigh. Just a bad day in the office

OK you self-loathing United fans.. Time to continue talking shite about our(your) captain, respect the other team and totally give up on the chance of winning anything.. GO!

We deserved something from this, it's not the first time this season the opposition had a good spell in the game in where every piece of luck was in their side and they capitalized in every chance in that period. Otherwise we controlled the ball and were on the attack.

Please elaborate...

 I haven't even been able to watch the game yet, just repeating the stuff that gets said about Arsenal on here all the time.

It was infuriating from a United point of view.

Thing is though, Arsenal will go out and play someone like Bournmouth next week and get beat and the Status Quo (reference mean't) will be restored.

United will still be fairly average though :D

-Disgraceful first half.
-Ordinary second half.
-All fart and no shit.
-Rooney finished
-Marital is an amazing talent
-I do not rate Depay and think his attitude is shit
-Bad selection from LvG
-Miss Shaw badly
-Arsenal deserved to win but, they'll still go and lose to a shower of shit next week and Claude from Arsenal TV will go into meltdown again.
- Arsenal beating United 3-0, at home, and their fans are quiet and pack out of the ground early

Up there with some of the Moyes performances

He is already engaged mate, maybe try with Fellaini?

Van Gaal got it totally wrong today, the defense will get the majority of the blame today but the midfield should shoulder a lot of it for me. The back 4 had no chance against arsenal pace and movement when they had a free run at them, Carrick was completely non existent and Bastian was playing so far up the pitch it was a little baffling.

Schneiderlin should've been a shoe in today and his eclusion is all on LVG.

You know he's a prize WUM. Fans like him are the reason Arsenal will never sack Wenger and they'll still not win the PL

This thread is surprisingly sane, I have to say.

Arsenal deserved their victory, were superb in the first 20 minutes. They dropped off after that and were actually very sloppy. Shocking we didn't capitalize on at least one of their mistakes. But we were never at the races today. Wrong team selection first of all, it was blatantly obvious that we only had 2 defenders on the pitch. Which was not helped by the fact that out midfield was bypassed over and over again, providing next to no cover. Schneiderlin was a huge miss.

So they game raised when United came to town? Nothing mew.

Gary Neville has talked a lot about Arsenal being too naive and not changing how they play based on their opposition and looking to nullify the threat they pose.

Well, that was 100% what United did today. You cannot play a two man midfield away at Arsenal and they absolutely killed us because we didn't set up with a team to counter the threat of their midfield. We left ourselves far too open. Hopefully they learn from this...

Until we have a younger CM partnership this will happen again. Great as he has been, Carrick's best days are behind him

Reality check for all those getting carried away. Lot of work to be done.

.. You having been waiting to use that one..I feel that the caf is quite stupid though in the way Arsenal here are written off ..under Fergie , yes..we had your number and were clearly superior..but since then , you have finished twice ahead of us and won two trophies, while we have done feck all..But its still the same mocking

Arsenal was easily the better team. We improved in the 2nd half.

We need to write off this game and continue to be as clinical as we have been till now. Lessons need to be learned long term but in the short term we need to flush this out of our system and press on.

Given the relative age of our first 11, there will always be games like these when we get overrun completely. But that doesn't mean the players are past it.

Shocking management from LVG. He calls himself a trainer coach but doesn't even walk down to the touchline and doesn't bring in Herrera or Schneiderlin in midfield. We really missed their energy and drive. He needs to have a long hard look at himself and realize that even he can be wrong.

People blaming Young should get serious. He shouldn't be a second choice LB at a club serious about challenging for the PL. Not his fault. Darmian was far off the pace but the fact that Sanchez was having a blinder didn't help him.

Can't help but remember the time we had Neville, Even and Vidic.

Lost away to title contenders looking to roar back from defeat - after running our players dry in the run up. That is acceptable. Non-existent start, individual mistakes, chances gone begging, bad luck. It happends. That is acceptable. We're two points off the top in October, with a wonderkid starting up front for us.

What isn't acceptable is the way we responded to going down - LVG had no plan B except for Fellaini, and we strolling about in the rest of the match like we actually didn't give a feck. We were fecking standing and passing it around instead of going full throttle trying to get back into the game. That, now, is not acceptable. Show some balls, you're being schooled by fecking Arsenal, show some desire and spunk and dynamism.

There was once a time when teams were scared of scoring against us, in fear of the whiplash. Today our rivals were thumping us, and we were walking around without any tempo. Shameful stuff.

considering how little effort they put in against Olympiakos, they should be fresher.

We were on our after midweek

Oh yeah, I wasn't really commenting on their style in the initial post, just that they performed it to an unusually high level. The way they went about things was certainly predictable.

Yeah that's what I mean. We knew they'd come out the blocks and would try to swarm us. Instead of ensuring we don't, we let them and just carbon copied our start last year at theirs.

Yeah our players are tired but then there is only the manager to blame. He shredded the squad when we are in more competitions so are going to struggle with injuries and fatigue.

We had more possession, we should have won!
That is not possesion , having the ball when you are not pressed is for me lack of creativity and idea. When was the last time we kep position when we pressed? I don't remember one
