As a big CL club, we need to be better. It’s great to be positive, but the organisation at the club is non-existent. We should have been ready to go, but the line-up was awful, key players haven’t arrived and the team looked terribly unfit and flat.
Going to a very competitive Brighton next game, and a loss there would mean we could be 6 points behind other top 4 teams after the first two games.
It’s very early, but we have seen this pattern so many times and from there, it would be difficult to stay positive about any facet of things. Today is a massive blow, for so many reasons.
It wasn’t a 1-0 loss against the run of play. We were well beaten by a side with very little quality. It’s a massive downer.

I'm just stating the facts as I saw them.

Our extended last season, such little break in between, the idiocy from Maguire, AWB and Greenwood means they missed out on some training, and very little new incoming transfers all combined into this clusterfcuk of a performance.

We all know this squad is so much better than this and all purred at a lot of the football it played just 8 weeks ago. That includes Maguire and Lindelof. So its not as though we are shite. We are just unfit and rusty, and I don't know any way we could avoid that, given what's happened in the past month.

The first goal was more Shaw's fault than Lindelof's. If Shaw is in better position that's not a goal. The other two goals were unfortunate more than anything especially the second.

I think all 3 of them are at fault. Lindelof should stop it, Maguire should be covering the front post so he stops it and Shaw should be much closer to Townsend and have been quicker to head in when Maguire went in.

Just a shocking bit of defending and it wasn’t the only one during game. We just looked so undercooked it was unreal.

Then Ole decides to commit pushes Shaw and Fosuh up and then it looked like everytime Palace went forward like they were going to score as Maguire and Lindelof can’t be trusted or cope when they are left to defend.

At this point Ole might as well of taken Lindelof and Maguire off and make Fosu and Shaw play as CB’s. At least they would have stood a chance defending against them.

I don't know if it was punishment for their summer misdeeds or poor fitness that made Ole play James and TFM in place of Greenwood and AWB, but it was a mistake and a costly one at that.

You're supposed to make a statement of intent in your first game of the season, not hand the opposition an advantage just to make a point. Bad move Ole.

Regardless of all of the good work that Ole does, I find that he doesn't necessarily have the courage to take chances with his first XI and subs. Whilst an overall lack of match sharpness was certainly a factor, we could have tried to mitigate that given that we did have one pre-season match.

Martial, Pogba, and Lindelof didn't play any pre-season football with United. It was quite clear that they weren't in sync with the rest of the team (to varying degrees). James also played on the right instead of the left. Why couldn't Ole have fielded a midfield of McTominay-van de Beek-Fernandes? Why couldn't James play on the left and Rashford on the right? Why couldn't Fosu-Mensah play at CB with one of Dalot or Brandon Williams at right back? Why couldn't Ighalo start in place of Martial?

Sure, we may not have had our strongest XI on paper, but at least we'd have had a side that'd be more familiar with and get more out of each other. The likes of Pogba and Martial could then have been options off the bench to make us even better. As it stands, though, our overall sloppiness and lack of sharpness was telling. Whenever Palace pressed us at the start, the midfielders didn't have instant options to play a pass to, and they needed extra touches to settle on the ball. Both Maguire and Lindelof became hesitant to play through the midfield, which slowed us down big time and made us easier to defend.

Maybe Ole wants more good players in his squad before he can take those chances, but at this point, if fielding our best XI gives us this kind of a performance, then he may have no choice but to take chances as the team continues to sharpen up and get ready for a long season ahead.

Bruno was also in Portugal until very recently as he had a new daughter. He didn't play in warm up game vs Villa

There’s no point blaming James for not offering much, when he actually tried to make an effort, unlike the so called first tier players.

Same with McTominay, who despite making a few mistakes, played better than those criticising are making out. He worked hard and was our only protection in midfield and that’s why we were swamped at times.

Keeping Rashford on the pitch when he was totally awful is unforgivable.

We were awful for great swathes of last season yet finished third. Personally I think the Bruno effect was more to do with clubs not figuring him out at first, and not because he was a genius who ran out of gas.

What I see is a lack of tactical coaching. The players are making it up as they go so it's all a bit rubbish. And rotating players struggle to adapt to unspokne understandings between players.

The right hand side of our team with TFM and James are genuinely relegation quality players (not hyperbole, no Premier League team would actively want to buy those players). Telles seems likely, not that big a fan of him tbh but we definitely need somebody for lb. Shame things couldn't be agreed with Reguillon. Telles is probably backup to Shaw rather than his replacement, solid going forward, pretty poor defensively. Sancho obviously should have been bought over a month ago. Don't know whether it will be completed or not but I assume if not we'll bring in someone on loan. Arsenal look better than us this season. Wolves and Everton could challenge for top 4. Top 3 are absolutely miles ahead now.

I know!! I am reading comments about VAR and the like, but Palace should have had more! They had quite a few chances where players made the wrong final pass when they were more or less clean through.
