Not sure how people wouldn't have enjoyed that. The performance was horrible, but isn't it always at Anfield. Their lack of quality is apparent which makes the win slightly less special. However, a win at Anfield is so fecking good. I haven't celebrated a goal since the Watford game, felt great to do so after so long and the feeling after the game was one I haven't felt since last season.

I'd say one more thing. van Gaal needs to build on this win, it'll give us a massive confidence boost, plus we haven't lost in 5. However, if he can't then nothing has changed and that, for me, will make him look far worse than he's demonstrated so far. Really important month coming up.

All us United fans should take a week off of bitching about LVG, Woody, Giggs and the squad, and just bask in the sunshine of another double over the Scouses. Let this period of grace wash away our cares and just enjoy the Schadenfreude moment.
Your asking far too much of the fecking doom merchants on here whose whole being seems to be defined by moaning and bitching at every givn moment

I thought we were dreadful especially first half. They attacked down our left and I thought they came close to scoring a few times. We couldn't string a couple of passes if we tried. We didn't threaten the whole match from open play. Once maybe with Martial, we had one shot on target all game (the goal). We basically scored from a set piece. Liverpool beat us in possession and shots and shots on target.
I don't understand your reasoning, yep I understand our tactics and we tried to leave Sako on the ball but I think we were getting humped and us not getting beat was down to liverpools lack of quality in front of goal. Not because our tactics or we were better as we clearly weren't, that was worrying how we played it took away from my enjoyment of the victory. And this is one of my must win matches every year but it's the longer implications I worry about with us being that bad. If you think we were the better team I struggle with that we were clearly not imo and that's worrying as Liverpool have the worst team in the last 20 years I can remember.
No, I do not think we played better, I think we played to a plan. The first half was poor in that we could not string passes together. However, I think the view that Liverpool were dominant is wrong. They won lots of ball but did little with it. Their 2 chances in the first half were the reult of one hoofball and DDG saving the header and United giving the ball away and them squandering a shot. They were very similar to United at home all season which people say was crap.
In the first and second half we had a number of counter attack opportunities that were just as dangerous as Liverpool and resulted in nothing.
If we want to use stats and sat Liverpool had 4 attempts on goal, that hardly implies domination and us being under the cosh. Posession wasn't that different at all.

I don't think Liverpool dominated, but they did seem to be able to cut through our defence far too easily. If our plan was to play it safe and contain Liverpool then we didn't do it particularly well, unless we included in our plan the fact we could afford to give them loads of chances because they'd keep missing.

But, yeah, who cares. These games have been scrappy and shit more often than not over the last decade - I'm not taking a performance at Anfield as any barometer of quality as it's basically a cup final, but we need to kick on sharpish.

True but we all need to moan, that's what footy's about. I'm just recommend basking in Schadenfreunde to rebuild the energy (remember those little red zones) for the final run of moaning so we can generate some really deep doom and gloom.:)

We play attacking football but lose our lead in the last minute for 3-3 - Bunch of bottlers.

We get through a very difficult an extremely difficult derby game without conceding despite being under cosh for much of it, improve massively in the second half and get an all important goal to win it - jammy cnuts.

We've played well at Anfield twice since the Premier League started (96/97 and last year, maybe 04/05 passing-wise). This is one game I couldn't care less about how we perform. You only need to win this one, get off your high horse some of you.

If winning at Anfield isn't cheering you up then I don't know what will.

As a Notts Forest fan (I assume) surely you're loving that like the rest of the country
Haha - actually United are my favourite premier league team - so I want to see them return to the top! I detest Chelsea and City - and hate Arsenal too...

I read that Shearer said after the match that "neither team had anything to play for" or something to that effect.

Jesus, I know we arent' great but we're only 2 points off Spurs with them still to play. Is he basically just being passive aggressive and saying we're shit

Shearer's like Keegan, against us at every turn since the 90s, don't expect anything coherent from that sad Geordie ba****d.

If a victory over Liverpool starts being hollow for some fans, then they're supporting the wrong club.
Now that the excitement has turned to relief I find myself assessing the performance far more harshly. Any win over Liverpool is welcome but I won't bury my head in the sand and pretend everything's great again.

Realistically we completely froze in that 1st half, was prob even worse than the 3-0 at Arsenal and if not for their faults they should have been well out of sight.

Now I know lads that would accept us being 19th if Liverpool were 20th but we shouldn't be setting our bar to compete with them, they're a far smaller club than us financially, they're starting a new cycle while we're years and hundreds of millions into ours. Saying we're both crap doesn't make me feel any better.

4 shots on target and 4 goals against a team in 180 mins of football must be a record though? They'll hate hearing that one:lol:

....and have DDG in goal saving every shot on target ;)
IMO, we were lucky, but luck and sport go hand in hand.

I also think that LVG puts the DDG factor into his calculations, when he is coming up with his tactics.

It was a smash and grab alright, but even in the days when we were ace, we've played poor and picked something up at Anfield.......yes, we rode our luck in the first half, but that's football......

Why wouldn't he?
DDG is our best player and has been for the last 2 seasons?
Why would the manager not rely on DDG?

What do you even mean by that?

I know, that DDG is fantastic and it is not "luck", when he saves our ass time and again. He is just class. Still how does any manager take that into consideration when he comes up with his tactics? Do you really believe that LvG neglects the defense because we have a great keeper?

The performance of our keeper doesn´t change his tactics one bit. Your argument would make a little bit of sense, if DDG would start to play in an aggressive sweeper role but that is clearly not the case.

you dont think it's possible we leave less men back or play a higher line than if we had a poor keeper in nets?
