Red card was probably right. He went for and got the ball but it was studs first and I’m okay with that kind of tackle being discouraged.

Yellow would have been a touch lenient but I’m not sure VAR should have got involved there, I don’t think it was clearly Red when Yellow has already been given. In that way he was unlucky but I don’t want him tackling that way.

The sending off killed the game for us. Southampton swamped us in midfield and had some clear chances that a better team would have taken,. Degea made outstanding saves (twice) and Martinez defending kept us in it.

Casamiro now misses 4 games as 2nd red for violent offence.
He was unlucky his foot bounced off the ball into the players leg but he still slid in studs up and you cannot do that in the modern game, He gave the officials a decision to make when he had no need to. Thats 7 games in 2 months he will miss through dangerous tackles.
A point is a fair result as We could easily have lost that game.

You need to win your home games, but when you are playing with ten men for most of the game and the ref is having a bad day then you can’t expect to win, so a draw isn’t a terrible result in this context. It was a red by Casemiro, it’s a bit unlucky but your foot can’t go over the ball.

I actually made this point in the stupid "corruption" thread; this is what is so annoying. Sabitzer's tackle against Leicester was actually an obvious red card. It genuinely wouldn't have taken much for that to result in a really serious injury. Case's tackle today was hard but it would take some horrendous bad luck for anyone to come out of it seriously injured.

It's the lack of fecking consistency that is so frustrating. You just never know what the result of a VAR review will be.
I think it's the type of challenge. Sabitzer and what Saka did the other day, which was a sort of stamp at shin height, they seem to escape due to the lack of speed.

They're really hot on running lunge type challenges where feet are off the ball. Probably wisely so, as these are the ones that could cause damage. That it didn't today doesn't mean it wasn't a bit reckless.

It’s not even a foul to go studs first. How can you be ok with a red for it? Studs up when you don’t get ball is a foul. He won the ball cleanly and clipped him on the follow through. It’s a great tackle for the whole history of football.

One wasn't a dangerous tackle in fairness. It was hands round neck. Again, not one you can do these days. But a totally different type of red.

Re: Rashford penalty shout. The keeper's knee goes into Rashford's left foot, pushing into his right and causing him to go down. Could Rashford have played the ball had that not happened? I think yes. So the keeper challenged, made no contact with the ball, and took the player down. Anywhere else on the pitch it's a foul. Should have been a penalty and a yellow.

Not sure which was worse today, dropping 2 points or having to listen to that insufferable, childish "commentator" on BBC Radio Solent

If you haven't watched football for 20 years I agree.
But you can't go in studs first off the ground like that these days. Simply can't. That's why he got a red! That's the clue!

Not sure what to feel

We we’re robbed a proper game of football due to the two clowns officiating the game.

We defended resolutely as a unit and deserve credit for that.

At times we can barely string a few passes together. We need a midfield overall it seems.

Overall a frustrating day of football on a day when we had to take control of 3rd /4th given it was a home game

Utter nonsense. Walker Peters challenge won the ball totally fairly.
It's breathtaking bias to think anything else.

Casemiro wasn't in control, he'd gone in high, but was unfortunate he pinged off the ball onto their man's shin.
It's not really that different in my opinion because as his scissor movement endangered an opponent and he actually caused damage. He won the ball with his front foot fairly but, he scissored the Garanacho with his trailing leg. You say Casemiro is not in control after also initially winning the ball cleanly and then the after action caused the risk but, then that's equally true for Walker-Pieters as he is not in control of his trailing leg either.

If the first was given, then he should have applied the same principles as well to the second.

I can understand why Casemiro got sent off. I don't agree with it, but I can understand why it happened.

I cannot understand how both Anthony Taylor and Andre Marriner didn't see anything particularly wrong with Bella-Kotchap practically taking the ball from Weghorst's feet with his arm.

This game was a must win to give us some top 4 breathing space before the international break.
oh ffs 8 points from 5th with a game in hand over the 4th place team is now not breathing room? and liverpool don't play again in the league until April 1st and they play City in Manchester and scousers have been bad away.

Exactly. That’s why Casemiro shouldn’t have been carded. It was a fair challenge that ended with an unfortunate knock on the follow through. You made the point against yourself perfectly
False. You can't lunge in off the ground with studs pointing towards the ball / opponent.

And that's why he's red, and serving a ban, and there wasn't even a question of a foul / yellow for Walker Peters. If Garnacho hadn't stayed down no-one would give it a second look.

Clearly…based on this and the Betis game…you can use your bicep to corral a ball, but your forearms can’t touch anything regardless of intention. It’s madness.

It's been years now since they began to give yellows and reds in these situation when the foot bounces on the ball, were you living in a cave?

In this situation, the impact was pretty mild so it was more a yellow than red, but the "he got the ball first" argument doesn't hold anymore.

Oh come on, the first red card was a joke and not even for a tackle, and this one was unlucky.

If anything we should be more annoyed by the suspension he picked up for the Arsenal game, these two red cards have been very harsh and incorrect in my opinion.

Well I was really looking forward to being cheered up today and I got that shite instead. Happy with the clean sheet in the end and will have to be satisfied with that.

Didnt see the match but would have to say its a point gained given the sending off.

I felt it was a yellow as well the tackle.

Actually think we battled to get the point as against the eleven men of Southampton and the officials. Think it is a better point for us than it is for Southampton. This was their chance to win here. Eight points ahead of Liverpool. Now got to keep an eye on Newcastle again.

The red card was harsh but understandable. The handball decision was terrible. If that didn't hit the guy's hands, Weghorst gets the ball in the box. I don't see how that wasn't given.

Obviously it was sad to see us drop points but with the red card and a bent ref and var, I’ll take that. I think we’ll do enough to finish top 4. What I really want from this season is another trophy and I’m really looking forward to those games than the PL. Great performance defensively with Martinez, varane and AWB. Although there’s a lot to improve, attack wise, but AWB is looking so damn good!
Hoping Garnacho injury is not that bad and he comes back after the international break. Good that he won’t travel all the way to South America now.

Glad we got the draw in the end, tough game for the lads with ten men after a lot of matches in their legs recently. These games can so often end up with a late goal against especially as we were still trying to attack ourselves and get the winner. Just hope we can get through the next few games without missing Casemiro too much, he`s a big player for us.

Wow, 2 different levels of anger for last 2 Prem games. We got totally f'ing robbed by an awful ref, and the feeling of despair after Liverpool.

Tough days.....

Red card or no red card, Casemiro has looked knackered/unfit/injured (pick one) last 3 games.
Maybe the enforced rest will do him some good because something clearly is not right with him.

After Bournemouth got three points versus Europa League quality opposition yesterday, Saints probably got inspired.
