We lost more than we won under Moyes. Didn't help that they were flying all over the world. Japan, Sweden, Thailand, Australia. One good thing LvG did is make it known that the commercial demands were actually a hindrance thus pre-season camps are not so wide-spread anymore. It is ridiculous. Preseason friendlies mean feck all, didn't we have a good preseason under Moyes ? We all know how the season turned out.
Just be patient, a few more weeks and the real football will start.
what he saidYou gotta love the over-reaction to pre-season friendly results. Beat some team of part-time tulip pickers from Holland, & you're going to win the lot this season. Lose a match whilst fielding a side consisting of just a handful of regulars, then suddenly the dark shadow of The Championship will be looming come next May.
If it's any consolation, this kind of hysterical behaviour isn't exclusive to United supporters.
Yeah...but you know why we go to China?....to spend 100 odd million on Pogba...it's business...and only two games...We lost more than we won under Moyes. We had a bad pre-season under Moyes, had a good one in LvG's first season. It is ridiculous. Preseason friendlies mean feck all, didn't we have a good preseason under Moyes ? We all know how the season turned out.

No need to be globe-trotting. That's all. The coaching staff can only work with the players they have and while already in unfamiliar conditions it does no good jetting off here and there.Yeah...but you know why we go to China?....to spend 100 odd million on Pogba...it's business...and only two games...
Bailley needs someone better than Jones next to him - Jones was awful.I'm at a loss as to how you can think that from what we've seen of him.
Don't be daft, give some credit to Dortmund, a mix of their 1st team and back up players beat a mix of our 1st team and back up players, except our starting line up cost nearly €300m.It was the second game of the preseason with the likes of Lingard and Depay starting as our attackers and Johnstone and Jones at the back, not to mention the absolutely hopeless Rojo playing as well. What did you expect against a Dortmund team almost at full strength and 5 games ahead of us in their preseason prepearation?
This forum really is something. So much whining for a preseason friendly against a sharper team which is also one of the finest in Europe, especially considering we were missing half our starting line up at the least.
No I agree....but Woody knows that with a population of 1.5 billion or so and a large younger generation getting more addicted to the game, he needs to exploit it. Trust me, I have a Chinese wife...even she was saying I can have a contact to do replica shirts.....(jokingly) He needs to get in there. (although 4-1 defeat isn't the greatest advert!!)No need to be globe-trotting. That's all. I miss the days when pre-season was turning up to the lower league dump up the road and dishing a beating...all without breaking a sweat. No I agree....but Woody knows that with a population of 1.5 billion or so and a large younger generation getting more addicted to the game, he needs to exploit it. Yeah...me to. I hate the co-operate world of football. I understand it...but hate it.I miss the days when pre-season was turning up to the lower league dump up the road and dishing a beating...all without breaking a sweat.
The worst thing about it is you are basically losing precious preparation time while giging around these *growth markets*. But that's how it is nowadays. We are on a glorious US tour with Real, Milan and Inter, you guys are in China with Dortmund and City....I miss the days when pre-season was turning up to the lower league dump up the road and dishing a beating...all without breaking a sweat.
I actually think they will beat us!This place is going to be epic if City give us a hiding on Monday.
This. Although Dortmund have been playing together and under their manager for a lot longer so are used to the tactics - but no doubt it was a weaker Dortmund side too as well as u guysDon't be daft, give some credit to Dortmund, a mix of their 1st team and back up players beat a mix of our 1st team and back up players, except our starting line up cost nearly €300m.
The "almost full strength" Dortmund side you're talking about will feature
- Reus
- Weigl
- Gotze
- Schurrle
- Guerriero
- Piszczek
- Burki
- Ginter
We had meh preseason friendlies under Moyes if you don't count Charity shield. It is ridiculous. Preseason friendlies mean feck all, didn't we have a good preseason under Moyes ? We all know how the season turned out.

Aren't they even further behind in preparation than us? Is there any chance that DDG might play?I actually think they will beat us!
Have they signed Schurrle already? And where will he play? Who will Goetze replace in their team?Don't be daft, give some credit to Dortmund, a mix of their 1st team and back up players beat a mix of our 1st team and back up players, except our starting line up cost nearly €300m.

Zlatanso who is our other 'half starting line up'? Name the names......as I did.
People have some bizarre worries here over the most trivial of things. Imagine if City beat us on Monday! We will have a proper meltdown. It is ridiculous. Preseason friendlies mean feck all, didn't we have a good preseason under Moyes ? We all know how the season turned out.

I think they are further behind in their preparations - but if Jose puts out a shit team like he did today, they will certainly beat us. I did think before the Dortmund game that we would lose tbh - as Jose was saying he's not playing any of those who were at the Euros. Not quite sure why they can't play, as England and Spain were knocked out early - so what's he saving them for?Aren't they even further behind in preparation than us? Is there any chance that DDG might play?

We had our best two players missing in Dave and Martial. Not to forget our most important signing so far this season in Zlatan. Smalling was missing in defense while Shaw has just come back from a serious injury. I doubt anyone starting in our midfield will be starting our first PL game. So yeah, we had more players out than them.
When you add to that the fact that their team is so much further ahead in their preseason, then such a result should not be a huge shock. Considering that the first two goals were absolutely silly ones to give away with the third being a Rojo special, I wouldn't be too worried yet. We too had some really good chances if only Lingard could shoot and Depay could pass.
I also mentioned that Dortmund are one of the finest teams in Europe. I think you should read the whole post before spouting off.
Because if you see have seen the game, you will see Depay missing a simple pass with 3 United players in the clear and in front of goal while Lingard was clean through and he fluffed his chance as usual. Such fine margins considering the mistake for our first two goals.http://www.bvb.de/News/Uebersicht/Borussia-Dortmund-verpflichtet-Andre-Schuerrle
Do you think they've signed Schurrle and Gotze not to play them as 1st team players or are you just trying to back up your mistaken point that they played nearly a full strength team against us? Neither team were at full strength, I'm not sure why you're ranting about Depay's passing or Lingards shooting.
These things happen in your first pre season game, I doubt the lads have even been doing any technical stuff in training yet so stop getting so worked up about it. They've been doing a lot of stamina building and working at their repeat sprint ability, not passing and finishing drills.Because if you see have seen the game, you will see Depay missing a simple pass with 3 United players in the clear and in front of goal while Lingard was clean through and he fluffed his chance as usual. And yes, there is no guarantee that Goetze/Schurrle will be an automatic starter for them. Unless you have some sort of statement from Tuchel to back your comment.
I think Schürrle will end up in his usual role as impact sub/rotational player once they have everyone on board again. Götze though must fail hard to not be in the starting line up as a #10. He offers too much creativity in the centre to be overlooked by Tuchel. He stated in a presser being very excited about Götze's signing. And yes, there is no guarantee that Goetze/Schurrle will be an automatic starter for them. Absofcukinglutely but no lets sell half our players over a pre season game against a top quality side who are a few weeks fitter.Pre season means jack fecking shit. Two years ago, we won this mighty cup and followed by winning 3 of our next 11 (inclwuding MK Dons).
It must have felt like playing in a sauna while running up Everest. The result wasn't that surprising, Dortmund have played way more matches than us and it really showed. It's a shame because it's always nice to win even if it's only a friendly but the conditions over there will help the players.
This is what the most realistic of us think. The result wasn't that surprising, Dortmund have played way more matches than us and it really showed. It's a shame because it's always nice to win even if it's only a friendly but the conditions over there will help the players.
