Sunderland were awful but they had an established PL striker in Defoe. And it was his goals that helped Big Sam keep Sunderland up.

West Brom have nothing.

After an FA Cup game against Blackpool, West Brom have Wolves, West Ham, Man City and Fulham for the rest of January. A dip in the transfer window is needed

Usually there's one really bad Premier League side each season. But, we've got two in West Brom and Sheffield United. Both are just such an utter mess and leak so many goals, and also can't score them. I wonder what the record is for lowest points total for the bottom three sides. We'll get that this year, no doubt.

The best thing West Brom will do all season is get a point at City and Liverpool. Then get miserably relegated.

Jesus couldn't save this. The worst thing is we play them after Sam has bought a new team full of cnuts.

One job too much for big Sam. He's 66, he should be spending his twilight years with family, travelling (post covid) and just enjoying himself. Being in the dugout on a cold winters night with all the stress that goes with managing, not to mention the abuse that comes with the territory is no way to live.

I remember a bbc documenatry and they monitored his heart during a match. was very good at showing the stresses of a match day manager.

Don't even think Big Sam can be bothered. Nice little earner for six months work.

A mere 7 points between 1st and 10th place. I don't recall it ever being this close a third of the way into the season before.

Liverpool were ahead of 2nd by at least 10 points at the same stage last season.

Bar the gap between Sheffield United and everyone else, the biggest gap between any positions at the moment is the gap between 1st/2nd and 3rd (4 points). Between 3rd and 10th there is only 3 points.

Supposedly 8 players positive for covid at City, not all first teamers i suspect.

Sheffield don’t actually leak that many goals, they have only let in 3 goals or more on 2 occasions this season in all comps. There seems to be a hoodoo over them this season making them lose by 1 goal all the time.

Go so far as to say Burnley are safe from the drop for another season if they 3 point this today...

According to the table, they've conceded the third most amount of goals (29 goals). Only Leeds (33) and West Brom (39) have conceded more. So, they do leak a fair bit. It may not be as terrible as West Brom, but it's certainly not good.

Both teams to drop points please. Failing that, a Chelsea win would be acceptable.

Brighton concedes only one less than them yet have a GD of -7 instead of -21. We have conceded 24 ourselves, more than half the league are on 20+. In the context of a relegation battling club, I don’t think their defence has been particularly terrible, it’s their inability to score that consigned them to 2 points after 16 games.

I definitely agree that their inability to score is what is costing them the most, since they can't offset the goals conceded with goals of their own. But, if know that you're going to struggle to score, then at least keep clean sheets. They've not had a single clean sheet this season. You're right in saying that they've lost many games by a single goal, but they've conceded more than one goal against Palace, Man Utd, Southampton, Leicester, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Wolves. So, roughly half of their league games. The stats don't lie, regardless of their goals scored, their goals against is still third bottom, which is comfortably relegation form.

It may be the case that other teams have conceded a lot of goals, too. But the most important thing is that whilst that is going on, Sheffield United and West Brom have still done worse.
