How is Mina the backup plan for missing out Alderweid/Maguire? They may play the same position but are completely different players.

Even Maguire and Alderweid are very different, how are they the two targets? They may both be ball playing defenders but one is an experienced international pushing thirty, the other is alot younger and fairly inexperieced with only two seasons of premiership football and a dozen caps. Its all rumours/bullshit anyway but theres no logic to it.

Why do people think when a club want to buy a player they are only considering the exact same type?

Do you even get many identical players of similar quality.

Because that’s how scouting works. Weaknesses in the squad are identified and certain traits are identified to allow a team to play a certain way.

That’s literally the point of scouting players and identifying targets. You don’t just say “we need a good right back, what he brings to the table is irrelevant”. There is attacking fullbacks and defensive fullbacks, fullbacks who operate as a wide centreback and fullbacks who operate as an additional winger. It’s daft to say that you wouldn’t identify which qualities and style of play you need before signing a player for a position.

Because it makes sense, thats my point. You dont just buy a 'defender' or a 'striker', there are different types with different qualities at different stages in their career etc. You want a target man type of striker, but you miss out on Lukaku so you go for Chicarito? Ofcourse not, same applies to the three defenders we are being linked to.
