Prodigy of Mobb Deep has died.

Has so many iconic opening lines in Hip Hop. Never was the biggest Mobb Deep fan, but their impact on Hip Hop is huge.

RIP P. The video below, while not a song, is why I really liked Prodigy. That authenticity that always came across, that he was a guy who was really living what he said. Him and Mobb Deep really embodied east coast rap for me. And his voice, of course, in every verse he spit. Someone who can sound tough without even needing to change his tone or volume. Just through the words he raps. The hip hop world has lost yet another legend.

I always loved that interlude to bits, the way he outlined how he could easily be got too but 'It's all about who gets who first, though/You know what I'm sayin?' >.

I don't remember when, but at some point it hit me that Prodigy was taking shots at Redman on the last part of that monologue (to all them rap-ass niggas with your half-assed rhymes talking about how much you get high, how much weed you smoke, and that crazy space shit that don't even make no sense, don't ever speak to me when you see me, know what I'm saying, word)

Hate stuff like this. If you don't know who the guys is - don't fecking comment! Twat.

Won't see me in many of these death threads, but this one is gutting. Have a genuine sadness over this one. :(

Tupac's words always stuck because the sickle cell was always likely to be a major component in P's death.

I've got everything he's dropped mobb or solo with Bible Paper being a constant looped track I've put literally hundreds of miles behind me listening to.

To think there'll be no more mixtapes, albums or random drops is gut-wrenching.

I hope he and Havoc were on good terms before he passed. Last I heard, Havoc was an alcoholic with a bunch of his own problems. Prodigy dying is likely to have a profound effect on him one way or another...

RIP, P.

RIP, P.

I believe him and Havoc reconciled some time ago (there was mini-beef after P got out of prison and released his book). They were just together in Vegas performing as part of the Art of Rap Tour.

:(

Usually don't come in these threads, but this one :(

1 More of the greatest rappers gone.

Mobb Deep and Nas put New York back on the hip hop map in the 90s. Prodigy, Havoc, Nas, Wu Tang Clan and Biggie would help to define the new era; Shook Ones part II is perfection all the way; will forever be one of the most defining hip hop songs in the history. R.I.P. Prodigy:(

One of the two of my favourite Hip Hop duo's are now dead. Sean Price and P.

What's with rappers and dying young? I know some get shot (Big L, Pac, BIG) and obviously - it's life, people die - but there must be more to it?
I swear last week I was thinking who's my favourite rapper/lyricist and the P's were the finalists.
I was drunk but I think I picked Sean.

This really hit me hard. RIP big man. As has been said countless times, Shook Ones part II is high up on my list of hip-hop classics. I couldn't believe it when I heard the news.

My heart dropped when I saw this thread. The Infamous was one of the first albums that really got me in to hip-hop. His voice was hard as feck. RIP.

RIP

I've listened to a lot of '90s hip-hop but no-one else comes close to Mobb Deep when it comes to that gritty, dystopian sound and deep lyrical content that give you such a vivid image of the dark, depressing projects.

Also, am I the only person who prefers Shook Ones Pt 1 to Pt 2? Something about that beat just makes it seem even more depressing than Pt 2.
