Not really no. You simply have to be eligible under FIFA rules to be able to represent any nation in international football.Which he has to be Welsh to do.
None the less, thought he was brilliant tonight. My MOTM.

Making him Welsh.Nope. He has to have one Welsh grandparent.
Yeah, with that crappy, depressing football. And that they defeated your team
The people who don't understand how nationality works is amazing. No but being Welsh does make him Welsh.
Sour grapes mate. I have always said that you choose your nationality. Where you are born or where your parents come from can make a difference but you can just apply for citizenship. What ever way your nationality is up to you. What's all this stuff now of some players not being Welsh?
No, it makes him eligible to play for Wales.Making him Welsh.
Yeah, I guess soYeah, with that crappy, depressing football.
Yeah, I mean haven't seen it mentioned until tonight when they went to SF..The people who don't understand how nationality works is amazing.

Most of the people complaining celebrated an Owen Morgan, Kevin Pietersen century for England or a John Barnes goal for England. Where you are born does not define your nationality.
She'll hate me for this. I missed something. My grandmother still couldn't get me to pronounce that railway station. Llanfairnoughogogogough
Llanfair PGMy grandmother still couldn't get me to pronounce that railway station. Llanfairnoughogogogough
Give me the full word. Was I close? The poor dear is dead now and couldn't ever get me through it.Llanfair PG
And to play for the English cricket team you need none. Or the ruby team. Or the Football team.Nope. He has to have one Welsh grandparent.
Some bitter posters...What's all this stuff now of some players not being Welsh?
I'm delighted Wales have won. Even more so because it took load of Englishmen to do it!And to play for the English cricket team you need none. Or the ruby team. Or the Football team.
Stop with the sour grapes.
To be fair that's what concerns me, they've been stuttering yet they're in a semi, it's like the gods are looking down on them!I think you have a good chance against Portugal. They have just been scraping through.
No English men played.I'm delighted Wales have won. Even more so because it took load of Englishmen to do it!
He tried to do the popular thing, instead of just doing the Hodgson thing, where he play with Dier and Henderson as the two defensive midfielders and Milner and Lallana on the wings, two hard working wingers instead of Sterling and Sturridge who can't defend.Aye. I said after the game he was trying to play modern football and be something he isn't. He botched its though, tried to shoe horn too many names and even by the Iceland game was clueless as to his best eleven.
I only mentioned it to illustrate the lack of logic in the 'English players are overrated', 'the Premier League is crap' and 'the English academies are crap'.Yeah, I mean haven't seen it mentioned until tonight when they went to SF..
And you have to be Welsh to be eligible to play for Wales or are you just an idiot? No, it makes him eligible to play for Wales.
Cheers, mate.
Sorry, didn't know you personally knew every player on the team and asked them what nationalities they were before becoming footballers. Must be cool to know so many footballers. And yes a number of them are English until someone from the Welsh FA asks them if they want to play international football because they qualify through one grandparent.
He got slated for Euro 2012 though for playing like that, he had be slated for playing like that with Liverpool too so I think he chose to try and evolve. It didn't work.He tried to do the popular thing, instead of just doing the Hodgson thing, where he play with Dier and Henderson as the two defensive midfielders and Milner and Lallana on the wings, two hard working wingers instead of Sterling and Sturridge who can't defend.
HartThat would've been a proper Hodgson team, safety first. It's no coincidence that England's best tournament under Hodgson was Euro 2012, where they played negative football. Alright, they did also have a leader in defense in Terry, something they've lacked in both Brazil and France, but still, they made the quarter-finals and lost on penalties to Italy by being negative. Not great, but at least better than being knocked out after 90 minutes by Iceland.
Clyne - Cahill - Smalling - Bertrand
Dier - Henderson
Milner - Rooney - Lallana
Kane
did you intentionally ignore the main point of his comment and why he was saying it so you could quote this snippet out of context?Sorry, didn't know you personally knew every player on the team and asked them what nationalities they were before becoming footballers. Must be cool to know so many footballers.
Geez, sure some of them might have unusually nuanced national affiliations but most people accept that is how it works. Andy Townsend is quite obviously a massive England fan, we know that, but he played for Ireland through the grandparent rule.Sorry, didn't know you personally knew every player on the team and asked them what nationalities they were before becoming footballers. Must be cool to know so many footballers.
English top players are overrated sometimes and too expensive.I only mentioned it to illustrate the lack of logic in the 'English players are overrated', 'the Premier League is crap' and 'the English academies are crap'.
All the Welsh team come from the same footballing culture and many come through English academies.
Not to mention that this quarter final was pretty much a Premier League game anyway.
And yes a number of them are English until someone from the Welsh FA asks them if they want to play international football because they qualify through one grandparent.
Nothing to do with bitterness. Out of those eligible I think only Ashley Williams would get a call from England anyway, being bitter would be kind of moot anyway.
No you don't.And you have to be Welsh to be eligible to play for Wales or are you just an idiot?
For some reason I used to know this. Gonna give it a go:She'll hate me for this. I missed something.
I've got that same feeling! Shame because Italy have the same team spirit and passion we have so it'd come down to the fact who has the game winners, which could become interesting!@yumtum I have a sneaky feeling Italy will beat them.
We've done our bit, time to enjoy watching the others sweat.
