"Rag" has got to be the worst insult...

If you're calling random Scousers a bin dipper in person and getting away with it, then, well....erm....no, I just don't believe you.

Every Scouser I've ever met hates the stereotype about them being poor and being criminals. The ones I've known well enough to casually insult can of course take it on the chin, but you can't go to Liverpool and call people you haven't met bin dippers and then be surprised if they get insulted.

Every scouser I've ever met jokes about the stereotype about them being poor and being criminals and I lived there for 5 years. We aren't however playing top trumps so it doesn't really matter. The fact is, the term bin dippers or rags isn't meant to be insulting, because we aren't throwing it at anyone as an insult. We are just using it amongst ourselves to talk about each other. It's not intended to be an insult, and when we resort to insults both sides come up with a lot better.

It just seems to be a pointless thread, 'rag' doesn't insult the OP. So what? It isn't meant to. It's what they refer to us as when talking to themselves about us because they don't want to say anything good about us. Like we do with Liverpool.

Never really heard rag much in real life, always munichs. Most of them are too stupid to really understand what they're saying though or are just United haters, rather than City fans.

I know what you mean mate what exactly do you want City fans to refer to united as? What ever it is its not going to be complimentary is it. What ever City fans call united unless it was the alimighty greatest, United fans would say it was lame.
You come out calling City fans bitter and obsessed for calling United fans rags. Yet your lurking on city forums and reporting back on here when something grates on you. Now I post on here but I am open about it and here to contribute a differing view. I don't go posting stuff on bm just becasue I've been insulted for being a blue which has happened a few times. Brewlio put bitter under my name when I got put up here, all the mods had a good laugh at that and I found it quite funny

I am not "lurking on City Forums and reporting back", I was checking out a City Forum FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER was amused by the word "RAG" (as in gobsmacked how lame its is) and I was shocked at the amount of hatred and obsession at the same time (wishing death upon the players, accusing United of having exploited munich and so an). I know it's the Internet and everything but I expected something - I dunno - less Unted centric.

They love it when they do it themselves, they get touchy when an outsider does it. Those are my experiences. I can't imagine speaking to a stranger and, upon finding out they're Scouse, saying "ah you're a bin dipper then!" The reason people say it amongst themselves and not in public is because, surprise surprise, it's an insult. Not a horrendous one by any means, but certainly more effective than "rag".
