Agreed. Walker is now quite similar to AWB in the sense that he’s a better defender than attacker. He’s usually the FB who stays behind when city do attack.
He’s much better than AWB so he’s a given. I’m just confused as to how any sane person can rate the other 3 higher at this point.
You’d have to completely ignore Maguire outshining Stones for the second successive tournament and elevate a guy who’s played 32 top league games to being level or better than a 4 time CL and WC winner, it’s nuts

Debatable. Dias is exceptional and probably as good as Varane, and better than Maguire. Both our CBs are better than Stones though. We have a better LB, whereas RB is also debatable - Walker is probably the better rounded player today but AWB has the potential to be the superior player.

Dias has to show he can be consistent, but based on last season he was absolutely above Varane, but a change of scenery and league can make a difference and maybe we see the best of Varane in the Premier League, let's see once he adapts.

Alexis was poor for the start of the 2017/18 season before he joined us in January but on the 2016/17 he was on world class form he scored 24 goals and 10 assists. So by any case Varane is coming of a worse patch than Alexis.

We can only hope Varane recovers his form with us.
Arsenal dumped a sack of shit on United. Good business for Arsenal and getting rid of Alexis, but there is no planet in which it can be persuasively argued that United was shrewd in taking Arsenal's problem child off your hands. This isn't just 20/20 hindsight...there really was a constituency here which questioned the wisdom of that signing.

As for Varane, one never can be completely sure of what a new player will bring. Regardless of how decorated is, he may be -- see Di Maria, among others -- but there's every reason to believe that a player of his consistently high caliber over the last decade will improve United in an area where we needed improvement. But we shall see what to pass. Jose not only brought in Alexis, who was already in horror form before we got him, but he brought in Pogba who never really ticked the right boxes consistently for United and he brought in Lindelof, who just hasn't measured up and needs to be upgraded on. Both Pogba and Lindelof came to us with high marks, but most United supporters are in agreement that neither have lived up to their potential, at least in a United shirt.

Varane had the higher Team of the Season card in Fifa though.

Nonsense.

Shaw is clearly the best left back, is that even debatable?

4 times CL winner and World Cup winner Varane is obviously at this point better than a dude who’s played just 32 games in a top league.

Maguire clearly just showed he’s a level above Stones yet again.

So what? Walker tips the scales does he? Cause he’s that good?
I would say:

LB: Shaw >= Cancelo (Shaw is best left back in the world, but Cancelo is also top top class)
RB: Walker > AWB (Walker is more established and better in supporting attack)
CB: Varane >= Dias (Varane is more established and better overall but Dias is in better form last season)
CB: Maguire >= Stone (both has similar season last season but Maguire has better Euro)

Pretty much equal. But it seems City has better DM and more possession, which helps their defence more)

I feel dirty for saying this it might be elsewhere but not seen it.

Anyone giving the Glazers a bit of goodwill for this and Sancho and whatever else comes this Summer?

Maybe it is shut everyone up for a bit or are they getting the understanding that more success = more profit?

Eeeerguuh.
Without the supporter protests none of this would have happened

They also have a better manager, a better system

How the hell did we get a world class CB in his prime for so cheap? Can't believe it.
Because he wanted to be a United player and wouldn't extend his contract at RM. Magical, when players think United is a top club, again, isn't it? :)

He's a man who looks at the future. He must have seen the players we have and think "ok it has potential to be better, to win stuffs, i like the club and i will make more money and new experiences". Most dumb idiot players would have stayed at Madrid or Barca eventhough theyre now approaching the title dinosaurs of football.

Hell no. They just realized that fans having the power to get a game called off is an expensive and embarrassing proposition. But they're so out if touch that they think shiny new signings will.make everyone ignore the nearly 2 billion of the club's money that they're pissed away.

Besides, Varane was on the cheap. It's a no brainer. If I've blown thousands of dollars on hookers and blow, and my wife finds a nice shirt on a clearance rack, do I really deserve credit for allowing her to buy it?
Agreed. The 'shiny new signings' are an attempt at pacification and nothing more. They and the fans know that prior to the Glazers and after the Glazers the club generates its own income.

As for your second story. I'm just curious whether you bought your wife that shirt :D

Covid quarantine may make this one drag out bois. Don't let it get to you
Thought we had a place to sleep at Carrington, thought it was used for a transfer during van Gaal's tenure. He can then immediately start training as well, hotel etc can come later then x.

The pressure will be on the lad from day one. We must remember that moving house is stressful, moving to another country with family must be a nightmare. Give him at least a couple of months before he is judged on his performances. Sancho not as bad as he knows the lay of the land already.

I really hope we give him time to settle in, I wouldn’t be against him sharing minutes with Lindelof until he is fully settled in.

Is he good at attacking corners? It would be great to add another arial threat in the opposition box. Imagine Maguire, Cavani and this guy causing havoc when we have corners

8 goals in 238 matches for Real indicates he is not

Feels too similar to the Ramos saga from 2015 this. Clearly we’re being used to get him a better deal at Madrid

The pressure was also on for Pogba, Jones, Lingard, Fred from day one and theyre still here. All Im saying is the prospect of playing for United is not so scary anymore because we have had so many meme players. The pressure is not as high as it used to be.

It’s too early to compare. As you say, Dias has to show consistency but then also Varane needs to show he can adapt to the PL and ramp up his physical game
I personally don’t think Dias would be as good for United as he is for City. He has a style that is perfect for City. Also wasn’t very good in the Euro, but neither was Varane.

Surely we’ll be hearing from Eric Bailly soon, new contract or not. He was openly spouting about his future recently, and that was when he was only behind Lindelof.

That’s how they do it.
£42m (34+8 in addons) = €50m
Media reports it at £50m
Then they convert £50m to Euros = €58m
Then they print it at £58m

And by this time next week they report we’re paying £97m with £16m in addons.

This is how the media report on Man Utd transfers.

Then Simon Stone tweets “Man Utd have spent £500 billion pounds on players in three years” and someone makes a thread about it on the caf so we can all have a moan.

Then the Ole thread gets bumped saying “Ole has spent £800bn in two summers, if he doesn’t win the quadruple he has to go.”
This is spot on.

He’s had games where he looked great. Just seems best to let go of injury prone players. I can’t think of a single one who has come thru it all to become healthy again.

He can feck off in that case. He had lots of seasons to prove his fitness and long term reliability. Unfortunately he hasn't. He can't keep getting rewarded by contracts and game while he spends his time on injury table, who does he think, he is Phil Jones?

Please don’t forget how the annual salary of the player is converted into a 5 year figure, added on to the transfer fee plus agent fee totalling into an investment of 150 million on one player. Somehow, this granularity of investment was only limited to players signed by United.
