That would make a great summer. We can go after Brute Haaland next summer with everything we have.
I just hope we can have one summer where we fix our deficiencies. We always leave it one summer too late by then there are other problems appear within the squad.

The fact that Madrid are about to sign another CB makes me think he really is off

There were reports yesterday that he already told the club he wants a new challenge

Considering the financial restrictions surrounding everyone but the oil funded clubs, it would be amazing to fill 2 holes out of 4 in the squad. A DM and a striker can be dealt with once gate receipts start pouring in.

Cost of multiple top players will always be very high and difficult in one summer.

Think teams always have a position or two they want to strengthen, but those that are here just need to get on with it.

This... genuinely might happen

Sancho and Varane would be a huge improvement this summer

Luckhurst has had a hard-on for Varane for atleast 3 campaigns now. Bet he's gone through his fairshare of lube recently.

Varane has looked a bit shaky at the Euros, but he'd still be a big upgrade on Lindelof.

Not sure I quite believe it, though - we've been down the road before and it usually leads to a contract extension.

I will admit I am biased on this one and would put that mistake against Hungary mainly down to Pavard

If we sign Varane - how big is this transfer if you only look at the status of the player we signed ? One of the biggest ever ?

Would be as big as if we had signed Ramos under LVG, one of the most decorated defenders in world football coming to England will be huge news

On status alone huge, right up there with RVP (as the last big name signing I can think of) as far as big names. That said Sancho is a big name.

I’d be fecking over the moon with Varane and Sancho. Keep Pogba and get a DM.
That is a real deal team.

it was never Varane's fault. He followed the striker dropping deep and Pavard lost his man in the space.

That team on paper should be challenging on all fronts*

*If said DM is actually good

Well, when did we last sign two marquee players in the same summer? You’ll be going back some way.

Maybe Lukaku and Matic if you count those
Matic isn’t marquee IMO so I don’t think we’ve done it in a long time

Zlatan and Pogba?
I accept they were marquee signings. But it was made easier with Zlatan being available on a free. I’m sure we wouldn’t have signed both otherwise.

If we could get Varane on a free then I could see us getting Sancho and Varane

I agree

Can we afford to wait until next summer for a DM though is the big question

I'm confident they'll make an amazing partnership. He does everything Lindelof can but then has the added speed and height to make him reliable 1v1.

I think he'll have a Dias style improvement on the defence that we need.

With Varane behind, we will be able to play Pogba in midfield with way less worry. I think the 3 of Pogba/fred/mctominay will be enough until next season.

The ability to afford a player depends on how we rate them, you rarely pay full transfer fees during the first year so outside of believing that the price and player aren't right, there is nothing preventing a club like United to borrow 40m and use them to pay the first installment for someone like Rice or whoever the club want. From a financing standpoint there is no issue.

So Pogba as a deep lying playmaker and one of those doing the donkey work around him

Starting to believe a bit. Especially with Real being linked with Kounde.
I still haven’t allowed myself to board the train with this one.

It would sting a lot if it didn’t come off.

I’ve wanted us to sign him since before his Madrid move… I’m sat at the station deciding whether to buy a ticket for this one. :nervous:

would any possibility of Varane signing be dependant on Pogba resigning, or is that a non issue?

I am so worried we don't see any DM targets outside of him
