If we offer him an improved contract then we will continue to see the current toxic culture that is at the club and other clubs, players and agents taking us for mugs

Let's say this true. It's staggering to think that we've allowed things to reach the point where as the situation stands he feels he is the one with the right to call the shots on if he stays or goes when it should be the club deciding whether he is actually worth keeping.
It literally says Ten Haag considers him a big part of his plans.

He gets one more season from me

The lack of effort concerns me, but I know how good he can be at his best

He strikes me as someone who needs the hairdryer treatment

I'm just saying if the club is going on some all out charm offensive to persuade him to stay then that seems completely unjustified and equally absurd.

He was great his first 2 years, he has regressed since and now at non league level.. I’d be happy to get £70 m for him.

That's the main thing for me.
Why does he need a new season or a new manager to work hard on the pitch? Just do it now, why wait?
I tend to agree with you. There is no excuse for his lack of effort and not trying. He got paid handsomely to do that and he didn't. It is ok if he misses chance, but not trying is different.

Maybe with coaching, he could make a decent (B level) centre-forward while we spend money on other positions.

Think of Chelsea 2013-14:
  • functional,
  • able to beat the best
  • comfortably making Champions league in a season where the top 5 all got over 70 points...
...but lacking that cutting edge.

Then in 2014-15, they upgraded the centre-forward (as the final piece of the jigsaw) and pushed on.

Imagine Utd, pressing, counter-pressing, stretching the pitch, etc...

...and scaring City or Liverpool in one-off matches (without parking the bus)...

But lacking that cutting edge. Then they spend (Rice-level) money to upgrade the centre-forward in a later season.

Nothing has been promised. We're still in the market for a striker for a reason.

Fair enough he wants to stay, and he's obviously not as atrocious as he's been this season, but that "improved" bit is crazy. He's absolutely not deserving of a higher wage when he's been by far our worst player this season.

Let see if he can perform to a high standard first before offering a new and improved contract. If this is his new level after surgery then we'll be stuck with a poor player on silly wages for years.

If what we hear about ETH then I doubt this new contract will happen but if this happens in the summer or even the board is thinking about this then nothing has changed.

I don't trust a word which comes out from their PR team, he's been absolutely shocking for good 18 months now.

Given we can't bin everyone in one go, give him few months under ten Hag. If he continues to stink the place out, cut our losses. Nobody is gonna pay him £200k a week wages, nevermind an improved one.

Ten hag needs to be sacked if he wants rashford to stay. Any manager who says during the interview that rashford needs to be kicked should be given the keys.
You're quite right and in fact Ten Hag should be sacked if he doesn't rip Rashford's heart out and eat it in front of the other players on day one of training

New and improved  these players man..

He needs to show he still deserves to be here, start working hard as the bare minimum and build from there.

I've very high hopes for ETH, and hope as a foundational step he starts demanding players earn what they are given, enough of this rewarding mediocrity (at best!).

SAF booted Becks, RVN, Yorke, Stam, Keane and many more the second he got a whiff that it was necessary. Standards were high because he kept them there. We need to return to those high standards, make these primadonnas earn their superstar wages.

Rashford's new and improved contract should be a swift exit for him and his PR-obsessed entourage.

The guy has been so lazy this season and thinks way too highly of himself and his awful footballing ability.

Rashford still have to us and the club why he's entitled to his current contract because he isn't worth it either

Improved, how much? Improved based on what? Guess counting on their fear of losing him because, actually i always liked Rashford, even this day when i think about it, have a smile, a day when he got a chance vs Arsenal, its a shame things looking weird now with him.

His application and attitude this season is not worth a clean slate under a new manager, let alone a new and improved contract.

Theres an opportunity for ETH, Arnold and Co to really make a statement with how they handle Rashford.

Rashford does not deserve a new contract, so is Shaw or any other player, as of now, aside from the ones leaving this summer, most player have contracts till at least 2024 ( except for Jones & Pereira), so there's no need to rush to tie anyone to a new contract, best is to wait until summer 2023 to see who warrants a new contract, and it should be up to ETH to decide who's contract is renewed.

With the forwards we're likely to lose this year I'd like to keep him and see if he can recover some form under Ten Hag. Asking for an improved contract is a bit of a joke though.

We can't replace our entire squad all at once and he obviously loves the club. I'd give him a chance, but not offer a new contract at the moment.

If he has any dignity, he should be asking a pay cut to 150k p/w at least. The guy has been underperforming, he doesn’t deserve anything higher than 150k p/w. Even 150k is still too much, considering Mane is on 100k p.w while Salah is on 200k p.w. And beside, there is nothing wrong to get paid for 150k to play for your favourite club. That’s like dream for any united fans.

It's this kind of thinking which has landed us in the trouble we are in. We keep rewarding players who have performed poorly, with more game time.
At MCFC for example, they got rid of Aguero - a player who didn't even have a bad season. They got rid of Kompany and David Silva. None of these players had a bad season, but it was predicted that they were now on the decline so needed to be shipped out.

We, on the other hand, wait for a player to have multiple bad seasons before shipping him out.
Rashford needs to leave asap. He has had 1.5 bad seasons and that is simply unacceptable.

This way of thinking needs to stop.
He has been terrible for a while and needs to be shipped out.

We aren't replacing the entire squad in one window, but we need to get the worst players out first. Rashford is arguably the worst regular first team player. Maguire would be the other contender.

100% agree with this.

It has simply been unforgivable the effort we have seen from him on the pitch.

It says a lot of he's instigating everything. It's like you're partner saying you should see other people, but then realising no-one else wants them so they come back saying we should get married, but only if you agree to do the dishes and housework.

I hope United have just been saying silent throughout his PR bulshit and call his bluff, either agree to a w year extension on the same money (United being generous) or go find a team closer to your level (Southampton ect).

We've seen it with Martial, he thinks he's way better than he is, too good for United so leaves for Sevilla, probably with a view of them being a stepping stone to Real or Barca, only to be hit with reality - the reality being that he's absolutely shite, and Sevilla are too good for him.

Half this squad (okay 90%) needs a heavy dose of reality.

Difference though with Maguire is I see a honest player that is 100% professional and does try his best, it's just mentality wise and quality wise he is not good enough and fits certain tactics because of his physical attributes.

Rashford is just half assing it and has the audacity to ask for wages, he would be gone by now under fergie if he tried to pull such a demand after his current season

With the season he had, we’d be lucky to get 45 m for him.

Even so, I would still do it to get Nkunku or Anthony with the money.

New and improved contract?

Fecking hell.

He could renew if he is willing to accept 70% pay cut on his current salary, and content to live with a bench role.

Again, no direct quotes from Rashford. It's entirely possible that this tweet is pure fabrication.

People should at least consider that before they jump all over the lad.

Agree. I think getting decent money for MR and his wages off the bill will help United start moving on from where they are now. A new contract should be totally out of the question so better to take some money now.

When people are talking about him getting chance after chance, what exactly are you referring to?

As atrocious as he has been this season, this is his first poor season. Just last season we were constantly putting off a much needed operation because he was deemed indispensable. I'm not defending his performances or attitude this season but this suggestion that he has flattered to deceive season after season is just not true. Short-term memory?
