Could claim that all 3 are goalkeeping mistakes too.
The Benfica one thinking about it now absolutely, don't remember the Cardiff one even though that would've been the most recent.

Bit harsh about the Celta Vigo one, that was a good goal.

Same story as Nani. He looks like he has the Ronaldo technique down and none of the players have enough backbone to take the ball of him. Despite the fact that, like Nani and like Ronaldo even, he's fecking shite at free kicks.

Pogba is far better although still not great at them. Mata is our best free kick taker by a mile, but can't get on the pitch for obvious reasons.

Surely he's banging them in for fun in training. Otherwise, it's just madness.

The most reliable ones are Mata and Young.

Maybe this Portuguese midfielder we're linked with can improve our set pieces after years of wilderness.

Hopeless, tries smashing the leather off the ball that's it. Row z or wall. We haven't got a specialist on them bar Mata ?

We are terrible at dead ball situation and have been years. Maybe we should get Pulis on board to drill this squad.

Our best set piece takes are both sitting on the bench in Sanchez and Mata but unfortunately they aren't afforded 1 single bad performance even whilst being played in a less favourable position because they ain't english youth academy graduates.

I remember once upon a time where threads (different forum) would say the same about Ronaldo and free kicks.

We rarely have a great free kick taker.
Over the years: Beckham, Ronnie and Irwin.
Since then no one consistently

Pereira has the best set piece threat in the squad. Which makes it all the more infuriating that he didn't even take one against City.

Why though? It's surely a basic requirement for any club to have, let alone a would be top club.

For us to just give to Rashford to toe punt it as hard as he can is embarrassing, I'd try and get Ward-Prowse just to give us some free kick and corner quality, it'll be worth 10 goals + per season as we are so poor there.

There and the rest.Mata is the best of our crop I think
I like Ward Prowse but isn’t he more of a second striker

All the more reason to sign Bruno Fernandes.

To be honest I'm not sure, I just know he is quality on dead balls, which is something we don't have, and he'd be surely a fairly straightforward purchase.

Raiding Southampton worked for Liverpool, so why not.

Shockingly bad. The commentators always talk about hos fabulous fks. I genuinely can't remember him ever scoring one, has he?
Against Cardiff this season...and we got a goal on the rebound from one against Newcastle. Also got one against Celta Vigo in the Europa League...though I'm not sure that counts as he actually placed that into the corner rather than just booting it vaguely towards the goal in the hope it somehow goes in, which seems to be the preferred method now.

It's more annoying when he takes corners. Every single one is cleared at the near post. Plus he's also scored a few times from corners other people have taken. It's like we deliberately want to be useless at them.

I don't blame Rashford for trying, with his free kicks, again and again... his determination to succeed is what will make him a top player one day, to not worry about the last one/thing he missed/attempted, but to focus on the next.
I do however blame the captain/manager for allowing it, they must stop Marcus for a while, for his own good, they must give someone else a chance, send Marcus back to the training ground (until it gets dark) practicing, then allow him another try.
Yes it will dent his pride, but if he is as determined as he seems, he will respond in the right way, if not his card should be marked by Ole!

Well, that's part of the problem. Who would listen to Young?

Even Ronaldo, time has proven that his technique can't be used consistently. Messi doesn't take free kicks like that and his scoring rate has remained consistent throughout his career where as Ronaldo free kicks are a collectors item now.

So if you are a young kid trying to imitate a great freekick taker, you a better off using the Messi style/technique.

What are his stats on freekicks? He’s taken quite a few by now.

Someone take him off free kicks FFS. You have Mata available - king of set pieces.

I guess he figures one day he'll pull a Ronnie at Portsmouth, then he can stop.

He’s one of the worst free kick takers I’ve ever seen at United.

Has he ever scored one?

He's scored three I think. First goal under Solskjaer was a Rashford freekick if I remember right.

He's still shit at them though and he should pack it in or learn to take them properly.

Another evidence no one has authority over this team imo.

I think Ole allowing Rashford to just toe punt the ball at the keeper from any any sort of range, seemingly as some sort of 'hope the keeper spills it' tactic, worries me more than most things I've seen from us recently.

There has been a change in his kicking tekkers, maybe to do what you described.
If true, it's just so stupid tbh to elaborate a FK tactic for that

It's been happening for a while, maybe Ole thought he was on to some master stroke with Rashford whacking it at the keeper after the Lukaku goal against PSG, so wanted to use it as a go to tactic on free kicks.

I've no idea, but it looks crude to say the least.

He doesn’t seem have any true technique. It’s just mostly hit it as hard as you can and pray there’s either enough swerve, enough wind or the goalie fecks up somehow.

It’s like poundshop Ronaldo free kicks.
