Both looked promising at the start, both have regressed. Both had injuries that they never looked the same afterwards. Weren't sure if they were wide players or front players. (Welbeck more central) Nothing in it for me, although I do think people are forgetting Welbeck around 2012, he was keeping Chicarito and Berbatov out of the team for quite a while. Rashford looks stuffed, hopefully he can turn it around but we'll see.
I think you are forgetting how crap Chicha and Berba could be too.

What a weird debate.

Welbeck was a good player, Fergie had a lot of time for the type of roles he could play. Injuries meant he never really got the consistency behind him that would have allowed him to reach his maximum, or at least that's my feeling.

But let's be clear, Rashford has been a way more productive footballer over the early parts of his career than Welbeck was. There was never a time when we thought Danny was going to be a top operator. He was just a good club product. They're only converging currently because Welbeck has shown some useful form for Brighton and Rashford has shit the bed, but you have to look at the totality of their career.

Rashford at one point was considered as one of the best young players in the world with huge potential, Welbeck never was.
After the Leipzig game where he scored the hat trick everyone thought he was gonna step it up and take it to the next level - become one of the best. Ever since then it's been all downhill - he's been below Welbeck's worst level since the start of 2021 but let's not pretend Welbeck was amazing, that cheeky lob attempt against Bayern is still haunting me.
High pressure game like that you would back Rashford to hit the back of the net. He has fell off a cliff and now people pretend like like they would choose Danny when they are both at their best.

Rashford definitely had more potential than Welbeck but lets be honest Rashford model 2022 could be compared to a Sunday league player.

In 19-20 Rashford was legitimately one of the best players in the league and carreid us until Bruno came in and then he got injured.

Welbeck has never been remotely close to that.

Easy enough.

He's already scored more than Welbeck and played almost as many games in half the time.

Rashford's worst seasons are better than an average Welbeck season.

So, Rashford.

Still think he needs a giant boot up the hole though.

Rashford was better. Neither consistent enough but Rashford is half way through his career while Welbeck is near the end of it, so many more seasons to try and do more and he didnt.

Welbeck looked like he could be a very good player when he was younger. One of the reasons we played such scintillating football at times in 2011/12 was having his dynamism and link-up play in the front four instead of the limited Hernandez or painfully static Berbatov.

Very tidy 21-year-old footballer with terrible finishing - you'd have been forgiven for assuming he'd get better at that with age. And he probably would have too, based on the flashes he showed in the first 2-3 seasons at Arsenal. Sadly, injuries completely ruined him.

Compare their careers to date and Rashford is clearly miles better, despite taking the last year off football.

I really like Danny Welbeck, but this thread is stupid.

If the question was ‘Who reached the bigger peak?’ then the question would be stupid. But that’s not the question. People replying to the question pretending that they think that is the question so they can dismiss and call the question stupid, is telling.

Rashford has been a better player and reached higher peaks but he’s two years out of form and when he isn’t on peak form he’s fecking horrendous. Welbeck is nowhere near as good in terms of peak Vs peak but his base-level performance and overall contribution when not playing at his best is probably much better

Insisting asking which one you’d pick out of those two propositions is a stupid, is disingenuous

Peak Rashford by miles, but the real question is whether Rashford will ever come close again to hitting that previous peak form?

Welbeck would never be as prolific as Rashford but could still be a great great player. His attitude was top notch so he would surpass and surprise many. Unfortunately his nonstop injuries stopped him from developing further.

Rashford had a lot of potential and is on crossroads now. Still up to him if he can become one of the best players in the league but probably already lacks drive and confidence to achieve anything, would like to be proven wrong of course..

Welbeck did that goal celebration with hid arms better than Rashford.
