Replacing Rooney

i wont be surprised if we do not sign any striker, considering that scoring has not been a problem with rooney out of the team.

I think that it s more likely that the club signs a midfielder considering that:

Scholes and Giggs are 36, hargreaves is crocked, Carrick and Anderson are underperforming and Gibson is not there yet...

if madrid offer 50 million but city 80+, i'm not sure if glazers will swallow leaving 30 million quid on the table just to have him go to madrid.

Of course they will if it means we're giving our rivals the means to move above us. We'd make that money back getting into the champions league. If we sell our best players to our rivals, we may not get that champions league qualification money.

Like most i can't believe we are having this conversation, and like most part of me hopes its just all tabloid talk though also fear there may be a semblance of truth in the circulating stories.

Rooney = Benzema + 35mill
35mill = Bale

I would have hoped to have the above 2 as additions to rooney, though both are young and IMO capable of making an impact in the team.

The last thing United need is to sign Bale and change a drawing steak into a losing streak. And also Gareth Bale will never be value for money and would be a bench warmer on most top teams in Europe, if even that.

So you're saying Rooney will bide his time until he can move for free, then move to Cty for the money and to hurt Sir Alex?

Because thats the only possible way it'll happen.

Why would the club sanction a sale to City when that would shit on us in every way? They wouldnt. Its a nonsense suggestion. If he was to move on, we'd make sure to sell him to a foreign club like all the rest before him.

Left back and left wing, the two most important positions in football...

I'd throw stupid money at Everton for Rodwell and Spurs for Bale. Get Benzema as part of the Rooney deal. Then look at buying up the best goalkeeping option out there.

Aguero...

But I think if Rooney will be sold, we will not sign anybody

Berbatov
Macheda
Owen
Hernandez
Bebe

Can't believe people are saying Aguero, Torres or even Bale and Rodwell. Clearly no value there. I'd prefer to buy a few bargains for a total of 20 mil and put the other money in the rainy day fund with the Ronaldo money.

This is my point, city could well come in with a well over the market odds to get one over United!! Stranger things have happened Ekeke!!

My head says that United would avoid strengthening city if at all possible, but I'm not 100% sure the powers that be would turn that sort of money down

As I've said before, Spurs would want well over 30m for Bale ... and even then would be reluctant sellers.

Bale is quite simply one of the best LWs in Europe, has only just turned 21 and will likely eventually become equally adept in either the LB or LW slot. Spurs don't need the cash and don't wish to sell.

So the idea that he would be sold for anything in the 20m range is pure wishful thinking on here ... the same wishful thinking that was applied to suggested fees for Berbatov before the actual fee became apparent.

I agree with the fee Tottenham would ask for, Jonathan Woodgate would probably go for over £10 million in the current market.

If Rooney does go, and I truly hope that he does not, I hope it is too Madrid, and that we get Benzema and one from Ozil, Kaka or Canales as part of the deal.

Kakas been hopeless since his wonder year of 07, ive never got the rave about him, plus the fact he, A needs a team built around him to fully flourish (see his performances at Milan as to why and at Madrid as to what happened when you dont) and B he plays in a position that weve hardly ever used under Sir Alex, it would determine we could only ever play with 1 main striker at any given time and also require the central midfielders behind him to play a far more conservative game as a consequence of his free role, basically it requires a very rigid system to get the best out of him, and thats been anything but Fergies philosophy over the years.

I dont want Kaka here myself, Benzema plus 30 odd mill is more acceptable, Higuain in a straight swap id drive Rooney to the airport myself.

I'm surprised to see so many wanting Benzema, he's looked a shell of the player he was at Lyon for the last year.

True but hes at a circus of a club who have a history of making talented players look like shit, look how the likes of Sneijder/Robben/Van der vaart have all got on since leaving that place, i wouldn't judge any player solely on their Madrid showings to be honest, not that i think Benzemas as great as some think he is, plus hes a bit of a bungalow in the upstairs department.

His attitude is a big worry, he seemed to struggle with the pressure at Madrid and then showed no fight to get his place back from Higuain, I just worry we'd lumbered with a tempremental dud. With Kaka' I could see him being rejuvinated here.

Yeah...that Ronaldi was a good player.

I think he meant Aldi Ron

Would Kaka be comfortable with the devil on his chest? Would we have to make him special gear with a crucified Jesus in place of it?

I dont think stranger things have happened, no. Listen we know its not true that we were a one man team last season with Rooney. He had help, good help from the wings and in defence. But he was about as close to being a "one man team" as you're going to get in a top top side.

So are we really going to sell someone who was that good for us last season, to our local rivals and a side who, signing Rooney from us, would be a better team and squad than us?

No. Of course we wouldnt. If that means we have to take less money for him then so what? Madrid, Barcelona and the rest will still enter a bidding wat for him between themselves and we'd still be paid hansomely.

You do need the cash if you wish to push on. And Bale might want to move on to a club like United come the end of the season, you dont know that he wont.
I agree, it's possible that Bale might want to leave in next summer, depending chiefly on on how Spurs do this season.

However, to push on it's better for Spurs to keep Bale - and to keep him as part of what has now become one of the best 5-man midfields in Europe IMO:

-- Huddlestone - Modric
Lennon ---- VdV ----- Bale

Nor do Spurs need the cash from selling him in order to push-on. The income of Spurs this season will be very significantly boosted by greatly improved sponsorship deals and by CL money (particularly if we make it out of the group stages): I'd estimate the minimum increase in income at around the 35m mark.

If (in January or next summer) Spurs were to spend 35m on a new striker + CB, then we'd push on alright, don't worry about that.

Keep the faith man!

De Gea
Rafael Rio Vidic Evra
Rodwell Fletcher
Modric
Nani Berbatov Bale

We should have signed those 2 before they went to Spurs. Same goes for Van der Vaart.

Rodwell isn't nearly ready to fill Scholes or Giggs' boots yet.

It depends. How have you pushed on to where you are now? You sold your best players for a lot of money and then signed a few good players to replace them. Those several good players developed and became the new Berbatovs and Keanes of the side.

If you sold Bale to us for £30 million, you'd go straight back into the market and sign a couple of new good players. And you'd obviously have your summer funds as well to get in one or two more. And hey presto, you've moved forwards. Thats just how it works.

If you pushed on like that, in the same way you did after Berbatov and Keane, then you'd up your level to title contenders. Of course you'd need to invest the money wisely but its fair to say you've been doing a good job of that recently.

Rooney + 10 million for Ronaldo
Rooney for Aguero + 15 million
Rooney for entire Stoke team - sell Stoke players
???
Profit

why are we assuming that we will get 50 or 60 million for him?

with only one year left on his contract surely that sum will be significantly reduced?

Yeah, it would probably be more like £30-35m with a year left, depending on how many clubs are interested and if Wayne refuses to go to certain clubs.

I remember when we sold Ronaldo and bought Valencia someone suggested that we'd sell Rooney in a year or two and buy Rodallega and hope for him to step up. Sounds like a plan to me!

We're assuming everything else, it seemed like as good a figure as any other.

Despite, there's no guarantee of him going on the cheap, particularly if there were to be a number of clubs after his signature.
