Imo at least. Used to think it was Henderson but then I realized no one really rates him that highly, well no one with sense.

Firminho on the other hand gets to go around dishing up inconsistent performances, putting up mediocre numbers and somehow every time he does anything decent gets labelled as some sort of great player who's somehow more valuable than Salah.

With Salah and Mane either side of him you'd think Pool wouldn't find themselves almost completely reliant on their fullbacks for service but that's how it is. He's a very good player but far from a great one as far as I'm concerned.

What do you guys think about him? Is there anyone in the league more overrated than he is?

His strength is in his link up play rather than his goalscoring, but I tend to agree that he's overrated. He's probably become overrated as a response to intially being underrated though.

He is very important for the team with hiss linkup play. Not sure he is overrated. I guess all Pool players have been raised to the sky since they have got so good results. Although they are mainly good as a collective.

I mean, I disagree with this. He's a great player in my opinion. His strength isn't necessarily in being the one leading the line, but rather as being a superb link up player for the other attackers around him, which he excels at. There's nothing wrong in being a player like this.

He's not about goals really so once you understand his role in their side it's depending on your opinion whether you rate him or not

I suspect every team in the world would have him as their CF though, I think Pep,would appreciate him more than he does Aguero and given his age he'd be an attractive replacement for Benzema and Suarez at Real or Barca

I just hope more people think you. People that actually make decisions.

Anyone who pays any attention to my posts will know I 100% subscribe to this view. Absolute con artist.

I mean, he’s alright, but not even close to being the level of player he’s made out to be.

A team that wins that many matches carries no-one. Clearly a key player for them.

Completely and utterly agree. Martial is a better player, but you'd never hear any pundit say that.

Sometimes the obvious answer, the one that is staring you massively in the face, is the right one. Not everything has to be subtle or beyond the intelligence of us mere mortals. Salah and Mane are far better players.

No he is sadly damn good.

His finishing is a little inconsistent but he really is a great foil for Mane and Salah. Unselfish and creative and hardworking.

Mane is their best attacker though. Salah is selfish at times and wasteful.

Mane tracks back like a maniac, scores and also creates as well.

After his brace against liverpool while at Southampton I was convinced we should swoop. Many scoffed at him. All he does is produce in big games.

He's their 07/08 Tevez. More than a goalscorer but rather allows Salah and Mane to become better players.

I think a team that wins many matches has no bad players. Not that Firmino is a ‘bad’ player - but the extent to which light or shade is shone on a player is largely due to his team’s success.

Firmino takes several games off, but why would there be a 10 minute segment on it when his team win regardless? When he DOES join the party with some sort of flick or goal, there IS a 10 minute segment about ‘this is what he brings’, and ‘people don’t realise what he adds’. Which is nonsense. If pundits feel the need to lead with that line, it is for a reason. Nobody has called them and said he’s rubbish or not all that. The notion is lingering without being spoken for a reason. The need to constantly declare his usefulness is because there is valid doubt over it. And if Liverpool were not that good a team, the story will quickly change to, when he does affect a game, how ‘he needs to be doing this a lot more often’.

Pep would need signicifantly better goal scores at lf and rf for firmino to function better than aguero at city

It’s a hot take but I do agree. He went from being underrated to overrated.

Guy gets away with so much due to the absolutely freakish stats of Mo Salah (who seems to find himself sliding down the underrated ladder) and the almost equally as good Sadio Mane.

Wasn’t there a stat that he hadn’t scored at Anfield in an entire year? In that dominant Liverpool side? Come on, now.

Na he's rated fairly for what he does (link up) not sure how efective he would be in a different system, but we won't know until he moves or Klopp changes the way they play. Though, he hasn't been as good this season as previous.

Usually when a player plays in a system well suited to him, he moves up a level. Firmino right now playing under one of the best managers in the world in a system that suits him well, is at a very good level. That means to me he's probably a good player under any normal team, and is overrated if he's considered anything more than that. He's most likely replaceable in the same way Coutinho or Oxlade Chamberlain was replaceable.

As an aside, the players on our team who are able to put up good attacking numbers in disfunctional attacking systems such as LVG's and Mourinho's are underrated.

I don’t consider him as world class at all. He’s just a very good player, but people often call him a world class which is overrated if he’s called world class. However, his contribution is needed in the Liverpool team and his job is to link the midfield & attackers, scoring goals is not the reason why he’s in the Liverpool XI.

He’s basically the worse version of Bergkhamp. .

He's a pretty terrible finisher - that Anfield record is not pretty, although he had a great goalscoring season last year. Makes sense since he was an attacking midfielder his whole career till Pool and isn't even a pure striker for them. Still a great player and absolutely crucial to the way they play, he opens up so much space for Mane and Salah with his movement. I don't buy into the 'defensive striker' bollocks, but he certainly works hard and links up extremely well.

I'm curious to see what his future is. Liverpool has become progressively better results-wise over the past three seasons while arguably becoming less exciting. This season they score in bunches less often, but they really grind teams into submission on a consistent basis. And a big reason for that is Klopp perfecting the balance between the hard working but uncreative midfield and the bombing fullbacks. Firmino makes that all possible as well with the runs and passes he makes to open up space for the wide players. If they sign Werner and drop Firmino back into a pure attacking midfield role for more of a 4231 than a 433, they could revert back to that early 2017/18 high-pressing, fast-paced football with Coutinho in the hole but would probably sacrifice a lot of defensive stability.

When I watch him play, it always makes me think just how many assists Harry Kane would get playing for Liverpool. Kane's passing is probably the most under rated attribute in the Prem. I'd love to see him in a team with players like Mane and Salah either side of him. We see it quite often for England, when he gets so many assists with players like Sterling, Sancho and Rashford around him. Liverpool with Kane instead of Firmino would be terrifying, as he'd out score Mane and Salah, but create more for them than Firmino.

Some people can just only understand goalscorers playing centrally, when these players play they usually are not even the furthest player forward and yet they should score more goals than the 'wingers' who are really just the strikers anyway playing from angles who dont lay a single chance on a plate for no one but scores just as much as RVN or Zlatan.

I knew there would be people who wouldn't get Firmino here due to the way they have Kane or Jiminez lining up with Rashford in our squad- like Rashford is some winger laying down crosses for Jiminez to score from.

The traditional number 9 is very overrated & the best teams in the world most often then not have consistently have had the more deadly players out wide with the players trying to interlink them through the middle more often than not.

Prime example of how Klopp transforms players to work within his system.

Pains me to say it but what a feckin manager :(

Sometimes.

Mane and Salah score a shit load of goals and from what I see, they tend to create most of them for themselves. Then there’s this whole ‘their creativity comes from their full-backs’ stuff. Firmino looks busy and does something useful every now and then.

How highly is he rated even?
He is rated as a very good player which he is. I don't think anyone names him among the best.

Im fully awake. He is very overrated and Ive been arguing this for some time now. His linkup play is very good but not needed. If you had made this thread two weeks ago I could have linked a graph that shows just how terrible he is compared to other forwards in his position. You replace him with a good striker like Jiminez and Liverpool still produce the same results. It just shows how immense Mane and Salah have been for Liverpool scoring all the goals.

There are more..

He is absolutely vital to this setup.

He is pretty good, but it’s hard to tell if he’s as good as often made out. Need to see him in a different team really.
He did play for Hoffenheim..

Why the duck am I going in about this twat? Sorry he is a absolute mess of a player...

This post and some others are cringe as hell.

If you cant see what he brings to that team, well... You should learn more about tactics and player roles in a team. He's nearly perfect in that set up. Mind boggling thread
