At least their defence can't get any worse so it makes sense for him.

Well that's the nail in the coffin for Belgium's "Golden Generation". 100% certain to never win anything now.

If he can win the FA cup with Wigan then I can see him doing well with a much better squad.

Heard the announcement on BT Sport during the testimonial, Bobby Marty has landed on his plates with this gig, one of the most talented international squads in Europe right now.

England fans laughing at this after Allardyce has just been appointed as the new England manager.
Can't remember Allardyce ever doing as badly with a team as Martinez did with Everton. At least an Allardyce side is hard to beat and well organised, Everton were the biggest joke in the league after Chelsea last year.

Allardyce is just as good (better, in fact) at stopping a team from being relegated and has also proven himself at a decent level, with his Bolton side being very good. Did a solid job at West Ham too, set them up well and they were playing good football to be honest.

I'd much rather have Allardyce than Martinez managing England.

Allardyce is a far better manager than Martinez.
Is he? Martinez' record with Everton was better than Allardyce's at any club he's been at. Martinez has won the FA Cup, Allardyce has never won anything, not even as a player.

Yeah
Allerdyce isn't a good coach
He's a bottom half manager. England won't do any better with him

Well at least he can't get them relegated, can he? So with no relegation to worry about, may be Belgium can do a Wigan again!

Not sure about that. He took Bolton from the Championship to finishing 8th, 6th, 8th and then 7th again in his final season. He didn't do too bad in the UEFA Cup either, reaching the RO16 and RO32 in the two times he competed.

It's quite funny seeing all these posters from England laughing while they have Big Sam as their national team manager

Still didn't win as many games as Martinez with Everton or Swansea (although I didn't want to count that since it's lower league). Also didn't do much with the 4 clubs after Bolton. At least not done enough to prove that he's a far better manager. He does have a lot of experience at this point and usually you want an older manager for a national team manager's position.

I really cannot believe how poor the Belgian federation is managed (probably as bad as the FA). They have the most talented generation they will ever have and they try to ruin everything by appointing clueless managers. Roberto Martinez is not good for a national team, his teams cannot defend and are not organized properly, they can be occasionally good going forward but you cannot win a major international tournament without defending properly. Such a waste of talent...

Martinez also had a better team at Everton than any club Allardyce has ever managed. By the way, Allardyce had Bolton in 5th place before he left, a far bigger achievement than getting Everton to 5th. He's also never been relegated, unlike Martinez.

Allardyce has managed more clubs, yet never messed up as badly as Martinez did with Everton. He took over a club that finished 6th, did well in his first season, then dropped them to two mid table finishes, leaking an embarrassing amount of goals in the process. That side had/has some serious talent, where he left them was atrocious.

Yeah but Belgium could actually compete for trophies if they had the right manager. Belgium have fantastic players, hence them appointing an average manager whose reputation is at the lowest its been is pretty fecking bemusing to say the least.

Doesn't surprise me! Probably because of the way he always loved to over-analyze the Belgium team both at the WC and the Euros on ESPN.

Very random one, but yeah he'll at least make them more interesting to watch than they have been. Thought they'd end up with a more proven man though.

In international football and cup competition in general, you need a manager that could organize a defense before anything else. That's where i think big sam is ahead of martinez.

He also seems quite excellent at getting the best out of what he has. Bolton played nice football, West Ham played mostly meh direct football, but had a mostly meh squad spearheaded by a pony, Sunderland had pretty much nothing going for them besides Defoe. He made them solid, and got Defoe scoring more than anyone could have expected. Get England similarly solid defensively, and play an attacking game that actually suits their forwards, and they'll do a lot better than they have in years.

Hmm, I wonder, since Belgium basically have no fullbacks, will Martinez try his 3-4-3 with them....

Not that good a fit - he hasn't been able to organise a defence in his last three clubs (with a particular weakness for set-pieces) and that has also (imo) been Belgium's biggest problem. They've already got the forward thinking talent, they need someone who can coach them on the darker arts.
