Rojo & Jones Must Continue as First Choice

They are good defenders which is very important first and foremost but it would be great if they work on their distribution. It's a bit strange how our goalkeeper has better passing than some of our outfielders.

I thought the pairing we're exposed at times today, thankfully they were spared Mane and Coutinho. Coutinho totally exposed them over and over when on the field.

Yes, but Coutinho plays in exactly the same zone where Carrick would be there to protect the defence. We went all out, even switching to a back 3 at the end where one of them was an attacking midfielder. Can't really blame the centerbacks for being exposed in that situation.

Im fine with playing long balls to get past the press, and Im also fine with sticking with Jones and Rojo for now because you don't face teams that press like Liverpool every week.

But over the next few years we're going to have to consistently beat high pressing teams like City, Liverpool and Spurs (and, hopefully, various other teams in the Champions League). So while there may not be many defenders that can pass through a press, we need to find them.

Jones and Rojo did fairly well yesterday. And we did kept a clean sheet against Spurs at home. They will do fine. We don't need to find defenders that can pass through press, what we need is Pogba to take more responsibility against better opponents.
