"Afraid" is the wrong word. "Driven to be the best" is more like it. Shame no one else last season felt the same way
Ronaldo does not give a feck about United. All he cares about is personal accolades which makes him not a team player which is why we'd be a lot better off without him.

I am curious how people have come up with this theory, and what a "team player" looks like by comparison.

Utd seems to have had a whole bunch of players who weren't interested in winning, or the team, or anything, in recent years.

Most forwards are pretty selfish which is understandable given it's their job to score goals but players like Salah and Mane I'd say have got a good balance on creating or shooting depending on the situation.

Whether it was from instructions or they where just selfish players but Rashford is the same type of player. The cnut who shall not be named another. The generally go for goal even if there's better options to create a goal scoring opportunity. It's great for their numbers but it is detrimental to team play.

Not sure how many watched the Rayo Vallecano game, but Ronaldo seem to be heavily involved in the buildup phase. He was taking positions in open spaces to receive passes and attempted alot of passes and through balls to players running into spaces. The passing was quite fluid and instantaneous, though not all passes came off successfully.

It was a clear indication that he was following ETH's instructions. Previously he would try to take potshots or dribble into space to attempt a shot rather than do any of this. Looks like the old dog is learning new tricks, which tells you about his attitude to adapt.

One game doesn't change the fact Ronaldos aim in life is to notch up as many goals as he possibly can so he can go down in history as the best ever. His ego won't allow anything else. He's now in his twilight years so he isn't suddenly going to go down as a team player which I think is evident as he's looking for a move to a CL team just so he can keep racking up those numbers. Ronaldo only cares about one thing and that's himself.

I hope he fecks off to pastures new as soon as possible, but I fear Ten Hag might not be of that view. The manager has spoken of Ronaldo in terms so glowing it was beyond the call of duty and platitudes. Add to that the fact that we haven't moved to find a replacement, and it just seems like it might be a genuine appreciation of Ronaldo, rather than posturing.

Perhaps the temptation of being able to one day boast about coaching one of the game's greats is too strong to resist, or he genuinely has a plan to use him effectively. Hopefully the latter.

If it be the former though, he's about the learn how costly that's gonna be, the hard way; and it won't be pretty to watch.

I didn't know that walking around doing feck all work for 90min and then finishing a chance every now and then is what's being described as "driven to be the best" these days.

"Cristiano Ronaldo leads the UEFA Champions League in all-time goals scored, scoring a total of 141 goals. Lionel Messi sits in second place with 125 goals."

I think this is why he wants to leave United. Afraid of Messi overtaking him.
I can't see that happening at all. I doubt Messi will score 16 goals in one season in the champions league nowadays, might even take him 3 seasons to get that. Ronaldo can afford to miss one year.

not sure which games you were watching... and even if it were true, he still did more than most of the others who seemed tired out from putting on their shorts

thank you Dr Freud. so glad you passed psychiatry 101 on the internet

The false narrative is United are a club on the down and out (not true with new signings)
What new signings have United made that will make them a challenger for the league? If anything Spurs & Arsenal have gone ahead of you with their signings. Malacia is literally the only signing that makes sense in terms of overcoming a weakness. Eriksen & Martinez don't cover your gaping holes in CM, RW & RB.
but I think he’s doubting himself big time under this manager.
Ronaldo may have every bad quality out there, but one thing he's not short of is self-confidence.

Utd were never going to be in the mix for the league this season, never. Signings we've made so far cover the gaping holes we had in central defence and lack of creativity we had in midfield last season. This window has moved too slow for us, ideally we wanted De Jong in sooner. I think once he signs, and i think he will, we will see moves for an attacking player regardless of whether Ronaldo stays or not and a right back. Still another 4 weeks to go, typical Utd that we wait so long, but that's the way it is. Pep and Klopp never won the PL in their first season. ETH needs to adapt to this league and start to create a squad in his own image.

Your CBs and overall creativity suffered last season because your managers were terrible.
Varane, Lindelof & Maguire are literal starters for their Euro/World Cup teams. They don't play nearly as poorly for their international teams as compared to United.
Eriksen's best position is in the hole behind the striker. He is too light weight for CM (failed in this position at Inter under Conte) and too slow for LW/RW (rarely used there by Spurs under Poch. Typical attack was Son on LW, Kane as CF, Alli as a floating CF moving left or right around Kane and Eriksen behind them in the hole). He will be backup to Bruno. He will not play in addition to Bruno unless your starter wingers are injured.

Since I don't have all the facts about what's going on behind the scenes, I don't want to categorically say that he should stay or go. Even at age 37 he's still our best attacker and it's not inconceivable that he'll score over 20 PL goals with a proper setup. But if he turns out to be a dressing room nuisance or Ten Hag can't work with him, then he should most definitely leave. He's in no way above getting the boot.

The worst case scenario by far is Ronaldo creating a terrible atmosphere and us not being able to sell him because of his wage demands.

Do you think I'm wrong or do you think Ronaldo has Uniteds best interests at heart?
I think most elite athletes have "somewhat" inflated opinions of themselves. Don't tell me Cantona didn't! But to be honest, I really don't know any more than anyone else. Do you have your employer's best interests at heart or are you in the job for yourself? Just because it's football and they are wildly well paid, in the end there is no difference.

But I do wish Ronaldo would let his skills on the field do the talking

Not sure if the translation is right, but I'm betting it is.
Are we about to see a breakdown in the relationship between ETH and CR7?

Of all the players fan camps this one is the most dangerous. He can do whatever he wants they'll always find an excuse.

I still marvel how a whole bunch of rats have come out of the wood work to claim cr7 is a dressing room cancer and is sapping morale. Without any actual evidence to back them up over the span of his 15 year career. Wanting someone to leave should never make you desire to wantonly rewrite history and reality itself
The bunch of rats are his deluded fanboys.

Goldbridge was busy saying the club gave him permission and is now claiming we are trying to force him out. Forcing a player desperate to leave out.
That’ll all be forgotten next time he’s brought up.

Please leave now Ronaldo. Terminate contract by mutual consent.

I hope the board and ETH will be on the same page and things like this won't be allowed by the club cause it undermines ETH authority and could destroy the season in no time.

Tbf, Ronaldo wasn't the only one to leave early.

But he was was the only one involved in the actual game to leave. And the only one under the extra scrutiny of a massive transfer circus prompted by his attempt to move elsewhere. And is by some distance the most senior and experienced player. So more than anyone else, he should have known better.

That’s the key thing here. Footballers watching from the stands can and do leave early all the time, I’m sure. Pissing off before the end of a match you were playing in is basically unheard of.

We'll se a lot more of this if he stays. And posters excusing his actions or writing we don't know the whole truth or he's a winner unlike the rest so he can do what he wants.

He left Barcelona that summer for Madrid in 1988.

Ronaldo is being unprofessional here and he's shitting on the very legacy he had built both as a United player and as a professional player as a whole. However I can't blame him for wanting to leave. If the De Jong saga is true then we are lead by clowns who'll take this club and those associated with it down with them
