Yea well the commentators chose to talk about other stuff first and the match second and they were incredibly pro Lisbon. I don't mind pointing out the good points of a team but you would have thought that it was fecking Real Madrid out there the way they were going on and on about them.

I didn't watch the match, but would it be fair to say that we lacked creativity in midfield?

And this on the day we sell Veron to Chelsea - and they have just agreed a fee with Inter for Vieri.

no i think bart is ok not great and will not be our #1 for very much longer. he saved MUFC's arse in many matchs last yr. , but gave up too many softies. i do not gain confidence w/ bart in the net anymore.

Are Sporting in the CL? Because I damn sure want them twice in group play with Howard, Giggs, RVN, etc playing. Maybe even Joaquin or Aimar by then too...and Trabelsi (sounds like it might be a done deal). Then we'll show these fools what real football is about. Has to be tough to take an 8 hour flight and expect to perform at 100% on basically one day rest.

Looked like one who likes to do things on his own. Not keen to pass the ball unless nothing else to do in the position..maybe I'm wrong.

Are you serious?
<img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" /> If JFH returns to prior form and these new players gel, including Veron finally lighting up the PL (and CL of course), Chelsea are damn scary.

We didn't lack creativity, we lacked football.
We were without Giggs Keane Ruud, Scholes Butt Ole and JOS looked knackered, Djemba played with those guys for the first time.
Talk about creativity or the lack of it after games that matter.

I'm sure they feel like it. An 8 hour flight probably either early Monday morning or afternoon (US time) and land sometime late Monday in Portugal. Then basically one day to rest from jet lag. Then play a match on Wednesday. That does sound tough and I'm sure that is much of the problem. I think we'll see a much diffent team this weekend in Cardiff. Hope so. Unless Sporting are the next world beaters.

I think people are taking the score of this game too seriously.
We fielded a weak team which was weaker due to major players being tired/jaded/hung over or whatever.
Sporting were more than up for it, because this is their first game in the new stadium, you don't want to lose that.
This game seems a bit unnecessary but I guess we had to play it due to our relationship (?) with Sporting, whatever strage link we got with them.
So basically, wait until after sunday with the doom and gloom.

Well that was not a good game the end. Still rather they got that game out of the way and be fresh for Cardiff on sunday.

Bit of a crap game really. Sporting played well but we were crap, looked tired and phased IMO.

Highlight of the game was Djembax2. He really looked the part. Whether this is because the rest of the midfield was so far behind the game, or whether he is world class, remains to be seen. But so far, so good.

Another good, solid game by Fortune too. Him and Djemba put in some hard tackles in the game. Nice to see.

Other than that, Ole, Scholes, Butt, JOS, Rio all looked like they were tired. Should be a different story on Sunday though.

Best team won.

Listening to a radio feed with two muppets who spent the first half talking about how the two teams did last season and the second half talking about the match in the past tense.

Fortune had another solid performance at Left Back. Fillipe got passed him once or twice but for the most part he was a commanding presence. Especially when he moved into Midfield. Fortune didnt keep Fillipe in his back pocket like he did with Quaresma the other night but he was still effective. The first goal was hardly Fortune's fault as Ole's original slip allowed for a teasing cross. If anyone had connected with it, it would be in the back of the net. United player or not.

Cant please everyone, cant please frenchie ABUs

pipeau, you don't seem to get it. Fortune is a "solid player", "class", etc. With Veron and Blanc gone, the only player you can slag is Barthez. Doesn't matter if you think that Fortune couldn't start for Udinese, nobody's interested.

Don't care about the result since it was an experimental team and Jet lag cleqrly played its part - but I thought there were a few things to note:

Barthez was poor - somewhat mentally detached - I think he will be dissapointed with the 3rd goal and had a howler that was cleared by Lynch late on. My bet is that Howard won a 1st team place today.

Fortune is not a credible Left back - not his fault but let's stop playing him here- was much better when moved to midfield.

Bellion is VERY raw - no problem with this but doubt he will feature at all other than in Worthless cup games this year.

fletcher looks class - kid will breakthough this year. Richardson might - but it's not as clear that he reads the game well enough.

Ronaldo for Lisbon was great - now you understand why they were prepared to sell Queresma - this kid looked far more dangereous.

I think United has found the new Andy Cole in Bellion - can't head, can't dribble, looks speedy but is not, has poor ball control, did not once beat his opponent in 8-9 attempts, falls over the ball too often, & can't pass! Can we return him to Sunderland?

But the United Blind Faith Brigade would see otherwise I'm sure.

As for the rest of the team, perhaps its fatigue but one thing's for sure - we don't have a strong squad anymore - Pugh & Bellion won't cut it. Richardson is another Chadders, & Fletcher needs to build up alot!

United sorely lacked the basic skill of passing & were run rings by Sporting who showed what confidence on the ball can do for a team - many times, there were 10-15 passes between them without a United player smelling the ball!

As for Barthez, I think his heart was not there last night, knowing he's not wanted at OT!

A consolation last night was the decent debut of Djemba2.
