I don't see any point in discussing a new RW.
We've signed Dan James and resigned Mata and are going to offer Lingard a bumper new contract. They can all "do a job"

There will not be a new RW signed.
This.

Why does the club insist on ignoring this position? it is the biggest hole in our team.

I believe they feel that with James added to the mix and a stronger RB they can cover this position for 1 more year and then hopefully with CL secured next year we go back and get Sancho. If we had finished top 4 I believe Sancho would have been our first signing and so we are reluctant to commit big money right now when our first choice is likely to be there next summer. Sancho may even have given us assurances he will come in these circumstances although obviously that would be on the downlow.

Well that's all well and good, but there is no guarantee that we are getting CL next season to lure him over anyway. And without attacking reinforcements (especially for the right wing) I am almost certain we won't get top 4 spot. We need a RW now and Sancho isn't the only one who can improve us. There may be some kind of agreement but if not then planning our rebuild around the idea a guy might maybe come next year feels like a big risk.

It is definitely a risk but that still seems to be the thinking with the Sancho link just not going away. Of course we are now hearing that we may just throw everything at getting Sancho now if Pogba and Lukaku leave which I would be on board with. The combined fees we receive would cover the Sancho deal and probably allow us to make 2 CM signings such as Tielemans and Fernandes.

James plays mainly on the left, same as Sanchez.
Mata and Lingard are better through the middle/center.
Chong is not ready.
Dalot could be a cover, but he said he is a fullback.
And I don't want to see Young while our main rivals have Sterling, Bernardo Silva, Mahrez, Sane, Mane, Salah, Shaqiri, etc.

But I get your point, same happens with our defenders (Lindelof, Smalling, Jones, Rojo, Bailly, Tuanzebe), too many for 2 positions. Sadly, none are very convincing although I have high hopes for Tuanzebe.
Even with our midfielders, we don't want Matic, Fred, Mctominay or Pereira in the first eleven.

We need quality over quantity, but for now, is otherwise.

Agree pretty much

I think James can play RW but it would be classic United to buy a player and play out of his best position. Sanchez can also play on the right, I think he did a lot for Barca

City have Sterling, Bernando Silva, Sane and Mahrez... While we Mata, Lingard, Daniel James and Martial.

We need at least one top winger. If we can't get Sancho. Then, Chiesa we should do out best to get Chiesa or even Pepe.
What a perfect illustration of the grand canyon-sized gulf in quality between us. Horrible. Why we didn't move for Mahrez last summer, I will never understand. The gulf would still be massive, of course, but slightly smaller.

It feels like we might not be signing a right winger with Daniel James coming in. He will probably play on the right along with others. It could work but I think we need a more established name and one who’s main position is the right. There are good players who fit that criteria available for reasonable money but it feels unlikely st the moment.

I don't see a starting RW in there. Mata and Lingard can do a job as 10s but not really out wide and James in his first year should surely be the backup winger coming on against tires defences and getting starts in cups, not first choice.

Dalot and Greenwood are options too, and if the club wants to wait on Sancho I get it, but then bring in someone on loan for a year, even Perisic on loan instead of 5M or so of the Lukaku fee would probably be fine. Malcolm from Barca with an option to buy could be an interesting move.

I guess if we buy someone like Bruno Fernandes and keep Pogba we can play a diamond and move Rashford a bit wider right, but we really do need a RW.

I'd rather hand Greenwood the backup 9 job (with Martial around too) then spend 40M on a striker and leave RW open.

Daniel James, Mata, Dalot (who I feel should be primarily transitioned into a an advanced position) can all play there, plus Mason Greenwood will be a viable option on the right of a front 3.

We badly need a goal scoring rw if Solskjear wants to naively think Rashford is good enough to be our main striker next season, at the very least we should be after Carrasco, 25 million for him and knowing the potential of what he can deliver on the pitch, plus still only 25, it would be decent gamble to take as I doubt we would even lose out on recouping his money if it didn't work out.

I’d be interested to see if we could bring Zaha back. Our right side would be transformed. Ready made chemistry with AWB and becaus of the sell on clause it could be a prudent buy.

Sign Pepe and get our right flank sorted for a while. Sancho realistically isn't on the cards and if he is next season then we'll deal with that headache.

I feel like we will spend money on other areas and aim for Sancho next year.
If he's our long term target right now, it wouldn't really make sense to spend X amount on a player like Pepe.

If we fix other areas of our squad, I'm sure between Rashford, Lingard and James we should have enough to make top 4, which potentially opens the Sancho door

It'll be a mix of Mata, Young, Lingard with occasionals from James, until we realise he's yet another right footer who insists on playing on the left.

Very much doubt we'll sign another winger in this window.

Think James will be used on both flanks. Also think with the singing of Wan-Bissaka, we'll see Dalot on the right wing too.

Left Wing

Martial
James
Rashford

Right Wing

Lingard
James
Dalot
Mata

Not great options, but I think Ole will try and wait for Sancho next season.

I was under the impression James would be the young, versatile attacking option who can play anywhere for this season, and not necessarily the set right winger.

Sancho is great no doubt but waiting for him could backfire. If we don't get attacking reinforcements there's not much hope for getting a CL spot and then he still won't want to join. We need a RW now and Sancho isn't the only player who can improve us.

Last summer City has Bernardo, Sterling and even Sane can play right and they went for Mahrez.
We have Mata and Lingard and here is people who think is smart to wait for Sancho till next summer.

Buy Sancho this summer. If you cant buy Sancho, buy Pepe this summer and Sancho next summer too. Simply as that.

Seems to be some wierd delusion on here that Sancho is just going to suddenly want to come to us next season.

Have we even bid for him? He's the player everyone wants. But have we? We did sign pogba and zlatan without CL football. I think if we wanted him we’d get him. Theres a difference between fans wanting a player and the board bidding for them.

Aye, I mean I love the lad and think he's amazing and will be a top, top player. Which is why I think the only way we were ever going to sign him was to do it in this window when the top teams currently consider him as perhaps too risky. If he has another top season then I expect all the major powers to be after him and we simply cant compete right now. We just aren't an attractive enough proposition.

Therefore we should take the realistic angle and sign Pepe who had a brilliant season and is currently an achievable target. If we're relying on our current options or hoping James/Dalot will pick up the slack then we're heading for another ineffective season down the right flank. Which would be what, 7/8 seasons in a row.

We won't be signing a right winger this window. On the right we will have Lingard, Mata, Young and James.

JLingz will stink the place out again rotating with the non entity that is Juan Mata. Ole will say that spms players don't deserve to be here.

Out of this disastrous transfer window at least we know there was some effort to create a right wing out of James and Bissaka

Id play dalot right wing with bissaka behind.
Dalot is not a winger. We need to stop horseshoeing players into positions when they are not specialists. We need a quality RW... Pepe would be good and Lille are looking to sell.

Don't we want Sancho? James and dalot can fill that position for a year.

Major difference is we had Jose, who for all his flaws was a big draw and a well respected manager with a long list of achievements. Now we've just got Ole, and a team that looks a mess.

Mata renewing killed off any hope of a new RW being signed. We’re probably hoping to buy Sancho next summer but it means another season making do with Mata, Lingard and probably Dalot only hope is James can do well there.

We’ll probably see Rashford, Martial and Sánchez all play there as well, no idea why year after year we are content not to have a RW.

Bigger priority positions to fill, midfield and defence being those two positions.

But his last 2 seasons he's played left wing and as a striker. So dont expect him to perform the same as he does in other positions

I would expect him to be an instant and massive upgrade on our right side over anything we currently have, regardless of where he was mainly positioned with palace.

I'm hoping James is going to be used as a traditional winger to give us some width on the right side.

Let Martial/Pogba/Rashford make their triangles they like to do on the left, then when it gets tight switch it quickly to James who's got acres of space to explode passed his marker and get a cross/shot away.

I can see him playing similarly to how Lennon was used at Tottenham, and he was always a threat when in the mood.

Probably but dont expect the same level as on the left and upfront where he has greatly enhanced his rep in the last 2 seasons. So we may have to pay for his value in other positions where hes been better

not addressing RW pretty much means we can only aim for 3rd at best. we just don't have enough firepower up front. going to be a treadmill season, but hopefully we can plug a few other gaps in the team then go all out for Sancho next year.
