Had one good moment against us with a nice pass, but was largely ineffective on the right. But thats where he plays, wide right of a 3-4-3. Was nowhere to be seen when Rashford went past his RCB twice to score.
What would you expect? He's young. Alphonso Davies also makes positional mistakes. He's a very promising attacking right back (or wing back).

I wouldn't understand Brighton selling him on the cheap, but seeing him and Davies in the same side would be quite tasty.

I'm saying he's fast, can pass a bit but wasnt one of their best players against United. Davies actually plays left back, Lamptey plays midfield

Fair enough. I guess I jumped the gun, thought you were saying "meh". Anyhow, plays both midfield and defense, as a wing back will.

Well I mean currently he's playing right midfield. So if we rate him on how hes doing for Brighton its as a right midfielder, not as a right back. He's not meh hes a good young player but I dont think he'll be going to Bayern. Thats my guess.

Can he defend? We'd want him as a RB

Nah, he is right wing back. And playing at Brighton he defends just as much, and is just as deep, as TAA, Robertson, Davies, Marcelo etc.

Check out his heat map. At Sofascore you can see his heat map for the entire season (both this and last). Compared to AWB the big difference is he actually get forward too. Or even better, watch a game with him.

Bayern is jumping on that pace and athleticism train while the rest of Germany is miles behind. Lamptey, like Davies, aren't the most defensively aware or best defensive players in their full back/wingback roles, but they have pace, energy, athleticism, and the requisite amount of technical ability to thrive in a system that has a fantastic spine. They can be taught positional awareness and defensive discipline, but their will and energy to track back and help defensively within their shape is what Bayern will compensate for.

It would allow for Kimmich to slide to CM with Goretzka. Pavard would go to his more natural CB position, but Pavard is still a very good player coming from the right fullback area. Lamptey could also play as a right sided mid and Bayern could go full pace merchants on you behind Lewa...Gnabry, Sane, Lamptey behind Lewa with Kimmich, Goreztka as the pivots, and Davies and Pavard as the fullbacks.

I can see how Lamptey has got some hype recently but I feel like going for him would be going for the top of a maximum to another - like going for AWB due to his certain defensive abilities, going for Lamptey just for his attacking ability seems like we might be shooting ourselves in the foot.

I'd prefer a more balanced RB with attacking ability like Max Aarons instead.

We're linked to him, too. But Norwich supposedly want around 30m for him. Think he could be worth that?

I havent seen him play RB so I dont know. He makes a couple of tackles and interceptions so he isnt one of fullbacks who never win the ball, but I cant say anything about how he does with positioning or in the air when I havent seen him play RB. Best to ask a Chelsea fan

All I know is that Geordies call him Tareek Lappety, which is just excellent.

I think he is worth the price in general.

However it's hard when seeing the balance that's required at Bayern. If your playing games with Pavard at RB then to me that's obvious he will be useful purchase.

However, I'm a believer of balance aswell. You consider how you have Gnabry and Sane now on the wings amongst others - do you want alphonse Davies making penetrating runs all game on the left & Aaron's on the right doing some but not as frequently?

Davies to me seems like a new generation of a LB role development that's happening under Bayern and could have an impact on modern football if balanced right on both sides. This is a player that's getting in to serious forwards position.

Aaron's to me is more an balanced RB with decent attacking & defensive ability.

You guys can control a match alot of the time to the way you want because you have a system and great world class players. Is that balanced RB what you need when you have alphonse davies on the other side? I'm not 100% sure.

I look at the way someone like Lamptey can make great runs from deep positions and even internal runs in to central positions- then I'd prefer to find that balance on both sides ( with him & davies) and find a system that allows that central stability for their game through players like Kimmich.

It's like the balance of Liverpool's fullbacks; they are carbon copies on both side allowed to play 235 in attacking positions to provide the width and attack they need.

Maybe that's decided to be too attacking minded & someone like Aaron's is needed to provide the defensive support when davies maintains to be a role he undertakes on his own.

Another player who I like the attacking dribbling of is Dest from Ajax linked to Barcelona even though its happening in a more free space league currently.

Do you think you could or should have two alphonse davies on both sides of your pitch or is his game too extravagant that you need a defensive balance on the right? I think that answer kind of decides whether Aaron's is what you need at Bayern.

I think he’s excellent tbh.

Plays the way a modern full back should. So much pace and energy.

Very quick, very neat player. Looks promising but not sure about the level of hype. Thought exactly the same about AWB when he came through at Palace. For instance, needs to work on his passing and crossing.

Well, the profile the club looks after is that of a RB who can -at times- mirror Davies to a certain extent. Pavard is doing great, and it'll be hard to displace him as 1st choice option for the stability he brings. He becomes part of 3 man backline when Davies makes his runs, and as a natural CB, he does that perfectly. But a dynamic alternative with more wingerlike qualities is missing so far. It's a tactical gap that needs closing.
So, going by your descriptions I think both Aarons and Lamptey would fit in here, though I'd probably prefer Aarons over Lamptey. Lamptey probably has the higher ceiling, but I don't want our signing to be too raw. Our squad is really thin, so every purchase made now has to be capable of helping us immediately.
As for Dest, has was the club's first choice until Koeman convinced him to join Barca. Personally, I think we dodged a bullet here. Dest is my pick for "Players you've never seen doing well"-thread. He's a flashy dribbler, but all the remaining aspects of his game appeared very lackluster to me

Yeah I see that and it's only from his dribbling abilities that I think could be good to mirror the other side but again his defensive aspects may not be up to the standard required at Munich.

Lamptey may be or not be on same level but he reminds me of that super attacking fullback - more than one that just whips a cross in a couple times a game aswell so it might make sense that Bayern are interested in him with Davies on the other side .

However then you talk about Pavard providing stability by turning in to a back 3; which inclines that Davies maybe used as a specific strategy. In that case a balanced RB like Aaron's can provide that defensive ability on the right whilst being a balanced attacker when needed aswell.

It will be interesting which player you end up buying and what style you end up playing.

Sell Dalot and bring him in for cover at RB he looks like a top talent £20m seems like a decent price.
He won't be going anywhere as cover, it's why he left us in the first place.

He is the type of marauding right back I can see us getting if we get Pochettino this summer. He ticks most of the boxes of a player we need in this position.
ethan laird is practically a carbon copy of lamptey, i think we will give him a chance first.

especially if we start to play 3 at the back more often though he’d be perfect for that role.

Your next manager will be under huge pressure for success so with that in mind I doubt they would pick an academy player with zero (little?) top flight experience over a proven performer at this level.

Would want to see an extended run of fitness from him before spending what it would take to get him from Brighton, which I'm sure would be quite a bit.

Haven't seen much of him play. But if he is a carbon copy, then that would be more ideal. Pochettino loves to develop youngsters, but as other noted, it is unclear if he has enough experience to start in the first team

Yea, he needs to show that he can stay fit for a prolonged period

Lamptey has injury concerns and little experience himself.

Laird should be given a chance if he continues to perform at Swansea. I’d like to recall him but not sure we can.

Laird has more first team games of football, albeit at a lower level, than Lamptey and is a year younger.

Who do you rate higher out of the two?
Hard to say, Lamptey has shown a bit more in the mens game but Tino looks the business at 2 years younger and was more highly rated in the academy (he was our academy player of the year for last season, something Mount, James, Gallagher and GIlmour won before him so not bad company!).

Livramento is the better talent in my opinion. He can play as a full back or wing back. He's more of a complete player whilst I think Lamptey is more of a specialist with strengths weighted towards attacking.

Proven what? He moved from your academy in 2020 and had a big injury with Brighton . Yes he’s performing good but he isn’t some premier league proven that you are making it sound.

I will rather we give Ethan Laird a chance. I watch him play for Swansea and he’s very attacking. He can dribble, make runs, put in lovely crosses etc.

Looks an absolute weapon down that side. He’s been flashing this sort of potential for a while. The kind of player I’d love to see under a Pochettino or Ten Hag. Think he can be special.

Just saw a stat on sky - supposedly, he has created 5 chances against Leeds in 45 minutes, more than any player has done in a whole 90 minute match all season.

I'm not watching the match now but I wasn't the most impressed with him last season because he seemed just like a pacey dribbler playing as a full back bit like Sessgnon at Fulham.

Has he been good apart from his pace and dribbling? Are these good creative stats seen vs Leeds seen against other clubs?

It's not really his pace, he has phenomenal close control and as such his dribbling is top tier. Decent final ball too. The problem with him is that he's not a RB, he's too short for it, so he needs to play as a RWB or eventually convert to a RW, which is probably where he'll end up if he plays in a non-5 at the back system.

Sess at Fulham wasn't even really a full back nor a good dribbler, he player LF a lot and stood out because he scored goals, but then whenever teams have tried to play him at LB since he hasn't been very good.
