Djoko gonna win this easily now, how has he risen from the dead like this?

Big opening service game for Thiem. No doubt Djokovic gonna go for the kill.

The odds of an early break for Djokovic must be good.

Thiem just needs to hold serve here and then hope he can apply pressure again. If he’s broken here then it’s over.

Thiem running out of steam, getting flatter now in his strokes.

He needs some luck here to get adrenaline rushing in again.

Djokovic has him here if he doesn’t do anything daft.

I think at the end of the day Thiem will really regret that first BP in the 4th game. All the time and space to hit a forehand winner and he bungled it.

Admirable effort nonetheless.

Thiem had a great fortnight, but Djokovic is ridiculously good. The mental strength is just amazing. Unfortunately for Thiem, when it got tight, he started spraying the ball. You can't do that against Djokovic.

Djokovic wins! What a great match.

This and the last US Open final shows, that now the gap between the next gen and the top 3 is diminishing.

If Thiem can work on his serve then he can be a consistent threat on other surfaces. That’s what let him down probably today because every point he was under pressure. But then again Raionic was the same and he’s one of the best servers on tour.

In the case of Raonic, while his serve was working, he couldn’t hit a proper forehand to save his life that night.

Thiem has proven that he can hang though so as Djoker and Nadal’s level drop a tiny bit more he’d have a great chance on at least 3 out of the 4 Slams.

So proud of Novak, he looked dead in the water but that mental resolve is one of the greatest in the history of sports

Absolutely unreal that even his B game can get him a grand slam.

He’ll get the all time slam record eventually.

How weird will it be. Until a few years ago everyone thought Federer's GS record, and thus the GOAT status, would be safe. Especially with him winning a few again and Nadal and Djokovic looking injury prone or just past it.

Little did they know the latter two would have a second wind just as Federer and it's going to take them past him I think. Delighted.

No player born in the 90s has won a slam yet.
And we already have a woman's grand slam winner born in the 2000's ... If Novak and nadel (even a resurgent Murray) keep it up for a few more years perhaps we could get a men's champion born in the 2000's before we get one from the 90's (aliassime is almost top 20 and he was born in 2000 so it could happen)

Wow, that's a crazy stat. Who's the current youngest slam winner? Cilic?
Del Potro and Cilic, both born in September 1988. Cilic is 5 days younger than Delpo^^
Crazy indeed, but when you realize that there have been only 6,7 slams that haven't been won by Nole, Rafa or Federer for over a decade now then it's not that shocking anymore. If you exclude Stan and Murray, those 2 are the only other guys who won a slam.

Thinks it’s him or Del Potro. Crazy as Del Potro won his when he was 20. He also beat Fed and Nadal on the way to winning it.
