The end of Rooney

I was reading the Falcao thread of him possibly being sold and being disposed of at Chelsea this January due to him being rather disappointing. After 1.5 years most of us Caftards have the consensus that he just is not as good because of his injury. However it took about 1.5 year for some to get to accept this, with the thought that our set-up is very difficult for a striker to prosper in or/and that it was due to him not being in form and he would get better in time. In total he played 26 games for us and scored 4 goals. At Chelsea he played 9 games and scored once.

I somewhat feel the same with Rooney. He is currently at 11 PL games and scored twice this season. Combined with the way he has played this season, I don't think it is very harsh to say he is pretty on par with how Falcao performed here last season. The people defending him say that our set-up is very difficult for a striker to prosper in or/and that it was due to him not being in form and he will get better in time. I feel his overall skill just declined. The point I am trying to make, will Rooney walk the same path as Falcao? What does it take for us to accept he just isn't up to par anymore? Or will he find his form and take it to the next level?

I thought he'd gotten a season ending injury or something. There're threads for Rooney's decline already, mind.

I've been searching for hours for a Rooney thread...finally there's one to post on!

Rooney has always had clumsy bouts of form mirrored with great periods. The clumsiness is becoming the norm now though

Deep Joy, been waiting for someone to post the end of Rooney thread. Thought he was gonna go on forever!! Such a relief to hear he's finished.

Weird timing considering he's actually done relatively well against CSKA and WBA.

I refuse to engage in this thread until it widens it's scope to include criticisms of our style of play, our arrogant mushroom of a manager and other criminally underdiscussed topics.

Don't think he's anywhere as bad as Falcao. I mean, one thing with Rooney is, if he's not playing well in one position, you can maybe move him around to see if he can perform better elsewhere. I personally think we've seen that since he's moved to the 10 role. In my opinon, he's been pretty good there in our last few games. Well, a lot better than we've been seeing this season, anyway. Falcao, on the other hand, doesn't offer much versatility. If he's not scoring, there's not much more he can offer, if I'm being honest.

I've been slating his performances a lot and I have to agree, hopefully he continues as he is if not better till the end of the season.

With most players that comparison would probably be a slight cliche (as, despite being a willing worker, Rooney doesn't really have the attributes to play wide for instance). Compared to Falcao however, it's so true - in fact I was shocked at how poor his first touch and build up play were last season. It's also what made it clear the man's finished at this level, and wasn't just going through a bad patch.

Is this thread about selling Rooney to Chelsea and getting Falcao in his place :lol::lol::lol:

He's actually getting better. Still pretty confident he will get around 20 goals for the season.

He is nothing like Falcao though. There is an explanation of Radamel drastical dip in form. The reason for Rooney decline is... I don't know, time?

The probability that something new about the Rooney situation will be said in this thread is almost zero. We've said all there is to say. We've scraped the bottom of the barrel to the point where we blamed his hair products for his form.

I agree with you.... He's head n shoulders above all that stuff.

I think there is a decent chance that Rooney will be sold to Chelsea in the summer. They were interested a while back, they definitely need a centre forward and Rooney's comments about Diego Costa today in the Sun seemed a little weird to me - basically sticking up for him. Perhaps he knows he'll be playing alongside him sooner rather than later?
Would also continue Chelsea's strategy of signing ageing centre forward has-beens who used to be good 3-4 years ago.......

With Rooney's contract he is going nowhere
We have to pay him around 45 million in wages between now and 2019
Can you honestly see anybody else paying anything like that?
He has no reason to walk out on that kind of money - infact the only way I could see him going would be if Everton were to make him their top earner say £75K a week and we paid him the difference (and I am not sure I see them or infact anybody else giving him a contract like that based on his current form)
Basically it would cost us £30m to give him away on a free to a competitor - I cant see that happening.
More likely he stays here and either rediscovers his form or he moves into midfield.
He will probably leave at the end of his contract on a free to the MLS but I dont see any financially viable model for him going before then.

We should all have our own Rooney threads.

Chelsea buy him for a nominal fee, say £10m and they pay him what he gets here. Why couldn't that work? We get £300k a week off the wage bill and Chelsea get the England captain.

Because I cant see Chelsea (or anybody else for that matter) committing 55 million in wages and transfer fee...
their top earner at the moment is Hazard on 200k, followed by Costa on 180K and then Cesc at 150K - I just dont see them bringing in Rooney on £300k till 2019 - I cant see anybody paying that due to firstly his current form, secondly his age, thirdly FFP and fourth I don't think you would want to potentially upset the dressing room by bringing in an under performing player on substantially more than the rest of your players.

The irony is that the people saying "Oh no, not another Rooney thread" are actually far more repetitive and less imaginative than the Rooney threads themselves.

Skybet odds on him leaving:

Very likely but bit pointless if those goals come in the way of a few hat tricks/brace and a goal here and there in between massive droughts.

Agreed, hoping it doesn't happen like that.

Here's something fresh! Thanks OP. A much needed thread. Everyone else seem to be avoiding the topic of Rooney. We need more such threads I say. Let's start one new thread every day. Yay.
