A fantastic Gameweek 21 saw two players get a perfect lineup and extra points.
By Week 23 King Eric, Il Duce and Dan had surpassed Ronaldo VII and were chopping at the heels of the leader, but it only took a week for the last two to draw a blank and see him fly past them again.

The leader was struggling with so many players in better form. Then came the meltdown, as he missed a gameweek yet insisted he had actually posted (he still does vividly remember it). Then in an attempt to regain momentum started flip-flopping with his SS pick, managing to spend an entire month alternating between Benteke and Le Fondre and invariably seeing the dropped striker scoring for fun.
King Eric briefly moved into the lead during February, but the chasing pack was losing steam. On GW27 all participants JOINTLY accumulated a total of 6 points. Yes, six.
It also helped that the best performers were previously close to the bottom: Agrade and Nemanja were picking up points at more than twice the rate as the rest, Jaap too was gaining ground at a frightening rate.
By the end of February all hope was lost, IL DUCE had stolen the lead.

By GW30 though Dan's first full house had stormed him into a comfortable lead, one he would keep adding to over Easter. As Arsenal prepared to do a guard of honour for the Champions, the Caf had Dan's celebrations well under way, open top bus and all.
And then the impossible happened. In a strategic brainfart as large as the fortifications on the Maginot Line, Dan chose to be polemic and pick a superstriker other than Benteke.
This is Christian Benteke, the highest scorer in The Game throughout the season, responsible for almost half the points on the table. Yep, that one, the one who scored 8 points that week giving Dan's average competitor a 10% boost in their overall tally for the season.

feck, I originally had RVP, Benteke, Lampard and Remy until I spotted the midweek game, that would have meant getting the lead back going into the final weekend. Fine lines.
