Fair enough. Any insight?
What was discussed, and then subsequently not discussed, is thankfully no longer a Greenwood-related discussion.

Media just seems to be all about reporting fake news. Maybe Trump was actually right all along.

Eh? The story doesn't look like it's fake. And they didn't name who it was did they? People are just guessing it was Mason.

Yes.

No speculations.
Are you referring to the undercurrent of racism in certain segments of the British media? Because I genuinely think that's worth discussing. Sterling and now potentially Greenwood have really not had an easy go of it (especially Sterling, which in my opinion was a disgrace).

Agreed. It is not relevant to this thread as the player in question has been identified by the police as being in his twenties.
I disagree... it’s very relevant to this thread.
An unidentified player was accused of rape and false imprisonment and a significant amount of people , how I don’t know, randomly thought it was M Greenwood.

Why did they make the link? Was it a misleading media article that set the seed?

Having read the article there is nothing in there that points to Mason so can't really fault the media on this one. We can fault all the Brexit loving, Sun readers who assumed it was Mason simply because he is brown and successful.

He is a fecking huge talent and a great lad. He’d a bit of a party with a few girls that time with England, big deal the kid is 19 and a millionaire who wouldn’t be at the same thing?
The sky is the limit for this lad and he’s absolutely at the right club with the right manager and just needs to look at his mate Rashford for a role model. Media are absolute pond life trying to make a few quid out of bullshit stories, best to do the talking on the pitch.

I’ve seen the article where it says a 20 year old was arrested. That clearly ruled him out. But I can understand how fools on social media could still use that to start rumours that it was him.

Im just curious if before that, there wasn’t an article insinuating it was him.

Also remember. The media can be very cunning. For example, in a web article about a young unidentified footballer being arrested for rape, and they could have links to several articles about “x says Mason Greenwood needs to see a psychologist” “Man Utd worried about Greenwood lifestyle and behaviour”

That’s how they often set the seed.

Where is this article that says it's a 20 year old? I cannot find it anywhere? I want to shove it down my Liverpool supporting friend's throats.

Linking the rape and imprisonment to Greenwood came from twitter no doubt, people probably speculating on players who have been taken out of their teams without much explanation.

Greenwood has certainly been targeted more than Foden, despite Foden committing the double sin of cheating on his partner and breaking lockdown rules, but I think at least part of that is just down to Greenwood being a bigger young talent in a bigger club. Last season he was genuinely being lauded by everyone as the most exciting English talent since Rooney and the heir apparent to Kane.

They went as far as naming the girl , she has since retweeted saying she’s 26 not 17 and has never met Greenwood .

Agreed. I’m no fan of Sterling of obvious reasons but the lad couldn’t cross the street without an article being written abusing him for it

I honestly think he just needs to play more. Usually in football criticism tends to diminish or even disappear if you're performing well, and Mason will no doubt score often if he plays often.

Him not being able to answer his critics on the pitch seems like a handicap to me, but whether or not he's fit to play is another matter entirely.

One thing no one seems to take into consideration is that Greenwood has put on a significant amount of muscle mass, for context look at his current physique at 18 to Ronaldo at the same age, Ronaldo was gangly at that age. Mason is actually 5’11 but has the short and stocky look because he’s put on a good amount of muscle.

Now it could all be genetics, but he’s build looks like a lot of it has been due to extra weight lifting. That tires you out and takes time to get adapted too.

Add to that the recent death of a friend and it’s no wonder Ole is giving him rest.

He needs to be kept out of the limelight for a while. It's really not fair on him. He's lost a friend and needs to be watched closely.

Couldn’t agree more. He’s had some rest, now it’s time for him to start firing into the season.

This whole media debacle around Mason is just an obvious reason why supporters should be "supporting" their players!

People will sit through a Summer transfer window like we’ve just had where journalists/ITKs were spouting about us being moments away from a whole number of players for it only to be shown as nonsense/lies but will lap up reports about players in a negative light.

There comes a point where you need to put this whole thing into context.

I wish Rashford was his mate tbh

Mengi (a good lad) is one Mason's friends in the current squad

But outside football he needs to dump a few of those hanger-ons

I love the kid. Any fan who can't forgive him for trying it on in iceland, really needs to go to Iceland.
I can't forgive him because at 36 years old I've had and survived covid. Now my lung capacity is permanently reduced by 10-15%.

All because he wanted to get his leg over.

Edit: evidently Mason wasn't directly responsible for my issues but the fact that people can't obey very simple instructions is the very reason we're in lockdown

Who will? We don't. The lot who do believing stupid media over our own youngsters can do one. These negative nancies don't deserve the accolades when Mason will win the B'dor

Sterlings treatment was totally different imo. He left lfc 2015, the hate started in May 2015 from lfc pundits who started painting him as greedy etc for leaving lfc. That hate continued in the press and went into him being a gangster with gun tattoos and many children to many wives, taking many drugs and going to many parties (IE the impression that many people now have of him) . That resulted in the racist attack on him from an opposition fan (Didnt stop the media hate) and then the attack from the chelsea fans at that game (Which helped to raise the issue)

Misinformation, hate, tribalism, bias (And even out and out closet racism) are all our media do nowadays. There are lfc reporters dedicated to pumping out negative City news, and I am sure it is the same with Utd players, but this situation (With Greenwood) is nowhere near (Yet) the treatment that Sterling got for the last 4 years.

I have wrongly criticised him after a report which had absolutely no credibility. I personally think its just descrimination on the media's behalf. Most news outlets usually have a hidden agenda the ones used against Sterling were ridiculous and the only real phase with Raheem was based on his spat with Gomez which he apologised for.

I think it's absolutely clear the media have an agenda against Greenwood. I find it so strange.

Clearly, it has to be racism (see treatment of Sterling) but I can't believe there are editors or journalists at every major newspaper who consciously and deliberately target young, black footballers. Is this one of those 'entrenched racism' things where there is a sub-conscious bias in the mind of the writer or is it that these media outlets know what they are doing sells papers to the frothing racist mob that is 51% of the UK public?
