Let's hope we don't wait until we are 17th before acting.
Crystal Palace, Burnley, West Ham, and Everton could all potentially leapfrog us by next Sunday if we are beaten by Newcastle. Being 15th could become a reality. 15th and lower could be an even bigger reality if Chelsea beat us (Which I'm fully expecting) on October 20th.

Oh boy Jose losing his job after losing to Rafael Benitez is going to be hilarious on so many levels.

So let’s get this into prospective 71% of our fan base want Ed Woodward to appoint a new manager.

Ok thanks red cafe.

There are about 1500 votes in the poll. I think we have a few more fans worldwide.:) What percentage of our fanbase is that?

Worst start since 89-90?

Coincidental that that was SAFs lowest ebb after 3 years in the job and then look what happened.

On the basis that there are no obvious alternate candidates out there, and the guy has won us a LC & EL and also got us to an FA Cup final in his two seasons here we may as well give him more time unless we end up mid table.

If Jose is to survive, Pogba needs to go in January I think & a replacement lined up before he is sold.

We can say the manager is an arsehole with boring tactics but so are quite a few of the players being arseholes.

Do we want petulant primadonnas or feeble minded players playing for us?

Whatever his faults, and whether his methods are right or wrong, we know Jose is trying his best for the club. Can the same be said about all the players?

Stick with him (for now)

Did you see the team, formation and tactics he put out in the last game? He absolutely doesn't care about the club. He just cares about his own ego

I doubt Woody is working alone when it comes to picking manager. Moyes was Fergies pick? LVG was a weird pick, but still felt more like a propper pick than Moyes at the time. Not picking Mourinho when he was available would be crazy, as we were almost desperate to pick a winning manager. It's just unfortunate that Mourinho is becoming more of a whining manager the last few years.

Who to follow Mourinho? Based on history, we will hire Rafa Benitez.

That’s where a lot of our problems are coming from imo. Players not wanting to play for the manager just doesn’t cut it for me.

They are getting paid an obscene amount of money and fans are paying ludicrous prices and in many cases travelling from all over the world to see them play and I know that I’m repeating a cliche but for me it still rings true, they have a duty to perform for the club and the fans, regardless of who the manager is. Anyway, I don’t want to come across as overly defending Mourinho because I agree he has been poor for us, but the buck does not stop with him, our problems run deeper.

But on the other hand this is their job and they know they can move clubs for a similar or greater wage. So they won't be arsed about the fans so much. Would you work for Asda under a shit boss and give a feck about the customers when Tesco would be happily take you on for the same pay.

You have a point there actually. Moyes was Fergie’s choice. There weren’t many options available when we appointed LVG.

And I don’t care what many United fans say now the vast majority were happy with the Mourinho appointment, just like they were happy with his first year summer signings, just like they were happy with had out done City to sign Sanchez. Hindsight is a wondering thing.

Is it true that SAF recently described the club as a circus act?

I wouldn’t like to write the algorithm that simulates the Tuesday game. Too many variables.
Probably better off with a random number generator for between 1-5 for Valencia and 0-2 for United.

I refuse to believe that as at right now the club isn't already in negotiations with whoever the new manager is. As bad as I think Woody is surely he can't be this incompetent?

I wonder what Jose makes of it all, is he just sitting at home in his hotel room waiting for the phone to ring? Is he even bothering doing match prep for Tuesday game at this point? There's a feeling of writing's on the wall about all this and if he's publicly dressing down players in training today then that's a sure sign of a man who's got nothing left to lose so he's making sure people who haven't been good enough get to hear it before he's seen off.

Many of them haven't been good enough to be fair, mostly those that Jose brought to the club himself such as Bailly, Lindelof, Sanchez, Miki, Pogba and any others I have failed to mention.

There isn't a single direct quote from SAF anywhere in that article.
I know. That’s why I took my time crafting a snarky and sarcastic reply invoking the Pulitzer prize and everything! Alas, you ruined it for me. :(

@el3mel just saw the ‘article’ linked at the Scandinavian supporter site under humbug. Didn’t actually read it. I did chuckle a little at your suggestion though, as I went there myself. SAF just let his private opinions slip while reporters are having tea all around him. Sure.

Does anyone honestly think that by changing managers will change anything? 4th time lucky maybe?

What if the players decide that they can't be bothered again, for the 4th time?

These are players, who have over the past few years beaten every single one of our rivals and beaten them convincingly. When they can be bothered they are brilliant. When they decide they can't be bothered or become so precious because of criticism, right or wrong, they cannot do the very basics of football. Basic passing, basic shooting techniques, how to clear a ball on defence.

United are fast becoming a club where the players hold all the cards. It's been an ugly transition. I suspect it disgusts someone like Sir Alex too.

Nevertheless, staff members are opening discussing whether Mourinho’s reign at United is now coming to an end and whether he has lost the ability to motivate the players. United want to, at the very least, see out this season with Mourinho before deciding what to do next summer, but a continued slump would force their hand.

The crisis comes as senior United sources dismissed as “nonsense” claims the club have approached Zinedine Zidane who is, nevertheless, understood to be interested in the job if it becomes available and is a free agent since leaving Real Madrid in May, having delivered a third-successive Champions League title.

Telegraph

Looks like we're stuck with Mourinho for a bit more. Woodward not wanting to take action, shocker.

Should he stay or go is irrelevant, he is a dead man walking, even he will know there is no way back from this. Real questions are when will he go and how bad will it get before the board act.

Mourinho has already joked that board won’t sack him because of his payoff and he will have no problem putting that to the test.

When was this?

I agree, its not a matter of if, but when. My money is on him not making it beyond October, sooner if we don't get results in the next few matches. If we lose Tuesday at home to Valencia, he should be sacked immediately after. Let Carrick and McKenna run the match against New Castle while you get Zidane or Conte in to save/salvage the rest of the season. The club would be foolish to leave the decision time to whether we bomb out of the CL in the groups stage but I wouldn't put anything past them at this point. The cost of letting Jose run the team further into the ground will be a hell of a lot more than any payout he's due for being sacked. Get rid. He's beyond the point of turning this around. He's had a feud with Shaw, Pogba, Martial, Herrera, apparently now Sanchez, Bailly, who is next?

I wouldn't take too much notice of the press, they know as much as we do and have to write articles for clicks. I could have made up that Telegraph article myself.

Loads of journos were saying Moyes would be given at least the season and it never happened. Jose is done - maybe not tomorrow but the writing is on the wall and it won't drag until summer, not a chance.

Conte?

Hmm, if ever there was a manager who proved the problem isn't the manager but the players, it's Antonio Conte. Taking over Chelsea after Mourinho stank up the place only to fall victim to exactly the same issues should be a lesson to anyone who pins the issues squarely on a manager. If League winning players at Chelsea decided to get rid of not just Mourinho but Conte as well, a season after walking the league, then what hope would he have at United?

Let's just convince Sir Alex to unretire and take the reins. Can't see anything else working at this point, to be honest.

As others have rightly mentioned the problems at the club run much deeper than the manager alone but surely the only way forward is to bring someone else in. Its clear that this season is fast becoming a shambles, if we bite the bullet now at the very least we would give the new manager 8 months to bed in and prepare for next season, work out what he needs and get used to the club. The fact that the season is already written off is in September is bad enough but things could actually get worse if nothing changes

If we get a coach that plays good football and is positive then the players won’t have any reason too. Mourinho has made this happen with his horrible attitude and boring football. The players haven’t just decided for no reason. He’s slaughtered Pogba, mkhi, Martial, Shaw all publically. Sooner or later that was going to bounce back at him.

That easy eh? Let's hope so, because if the next manager fails to deliver either performances or success then us fans are going to run out of excuses for the players.

As for deciding for no reason, they play in a results and performance based industry and criticism, harsh, public or private is part and parcel of it all. If they are so weak minded that they cower and give up, then it says more about them, than it does about Mourinho.

It is equally astounding that some fans are completely blind to other issues at club and believe that once Jose is gone, the club administration will start doing everything correctly and players all become top notch.
There is no single problem at the club. If the management failed to find an ideal replacement when SAF left, when Moyes left and when LvG left, it doesn't make much sense to hope that the club will set things right when Jose leaves.

I do not see anyone claiming that everything else is hunky dory. But the manager is currently the biggest open bleeding wound that must be stanched first, and it makes no sense to blame his travails on everyone else except himself. And indeed the players are better than they look under him.
