Right people the list has finally been compiled and finalised. Total fecking ball ache and has taken hours (remind me not to do anything like this again).

Just so you know how it has been done, 500 points were given to top spot, 490 for second etc, with bottom spot given 10. Only the lists provided by the panel members have been counted as agreed and this is the full and final list.

Anyway, enough babbling, here's the list, I'm particularly pleased with the number one slot :D, although it was mighty close, OK only pipped Nevermind by one placing (10 points).

Oh and no fecking Muse either :D good job people.

Thanks to everyone that contributed here it is.

Great work Rednome.

The Doors flying high :D:D

Cheers Lizard, and yes a very respectable position for The Doors indeed, but would have liked to have seen them above Oasis at least.

Fix! OK Computer #1...

These lists are obviously pointless and subjective, but I like quite a few of the albums in there. Well done RedNome.

How is the first Zeppelin album at 18? Jeff Buckley ahead of Zeppelin? Rubbish list.

I was waiting for the first fix shout :D, I can assure you and everyone else that it is no fix.

I think it is an interesting representation of the Cafes musical knowledge base, and I think from that list that we did fairly well really, I wouldn't say that there are any bad albums there, ones that I don't like obviously but I still wouldn't call them bad.

Lawl. This isn't "Journalist A's Generic List of the Top 50 Albums of All Time"

This is the posters of RedCafe's favourite albums. And if you don't like our opinion, feck off! :wenger:

Good to see Thriller so high. I'll guess my #1 placing gave it a massive bump upwards.

All in all, thats a quality list of albums. Cheers for doing it RedNome.

Subjective list, but fair.I would like to see a list divided between the over and under 35 year old crowd.I must be old as I haven't really heard radiohead to any degree at all.

Very good top 50. Someone should make a playlist and post it in this thread. Just so people can listen to the great songs they haven't heard yet i.e. 39. Public enemy and Black Sabbath (50)

You really should put that right, it's no fluke that they are at number one, it's fully deserved as it's an outstanding album.

PS. I have to disagree strongly with number 23 on that list. That should be nowhere near the list IMO

Ah well, to each their own

I've only ever heard one radiohead song

For shame on you :nono:

Take it from someone who holds The Doors in almost as high regard as you do that this band is by far the best and most innovative band currently recording music at this moment in time, no exageration, they're that good.

Start with The Bends and work your way through, you won't be disapointed.

THE most important band of the last decade, and still so.

Yeah, not the right introduction to Radiohead for someone that doesn't know the band imo, some alright tunes on it but still ain't no Bends I think you'd agree.

Yeah I guess.

I found Kid A, Hail to the Thief and Amnesiac totally inaccessible unfortunately. In Rainbows is something of a return to form though

Love them as much as The Bends and OK. It depends on what mood I am in as to which one will get played. I have huge respect for the fact that after OK and all the fame and fortune that that gave them they then went on to make Kid A which was a complete tangent fron anything else that they had done before, they became 'The Anti Band' if you like, and didn't care if their sales plummeted as a result, they made the music they wanted to make, if you liked it great if not then so be it, we'll maybe see you some time down the line. Amnesiac was pretty much the same and came from the same writng and recording sessions as Kid A, still not sure which one I like more. Hail To The Thief came next and I for one loved it, I felt it was a step closer to being more accessible for people as it was less experimental when compared to the two previous albums.

Which brings us up to date with In Rainbows, probably their most accessible album since OK, one that I still have playing now and love the more I here it.

Anyway that's just my ramblings, I can understand why you would not like the ones you mentioned though, a lot of people subscribe to those thoughts.

Radiohead. Find it hard to trust someone who doesnt like them.

When Kid A came out I was at first confused but I get it now. That and the albums that followed are actually superb if you can get over the fact that it's different i.e. not the traditional guitar band that they were previously. I suppose OK Computer was a little indication that they were taking music forward and trying to break the mould so to speak. I would advise anyone who wants to try Radiohead to listen to The Bends first though. It's accessible and has plenty of anthems, all of which are easy to play on guitar.

And erm, like my username on here, if you can get hold of comlag it's a superb little EP with tunes like 'Fog' live.

Good list btw, but no Sonic Youth, Kings of Leon, The Kinks...

Thoughts:

One of the best list of top albums i`ve seen in a long time. The Doors and The Clash a bit high for me but that`s just personal preference (from a punk point of view i always preferred The Dead Kennedys)

Jeff Buckley is the only artist on the list i`m not familiar with, so i`ll have to check Grace out.

Forgotten what a great album 3 feet high and Rising is.

I missed Van Halen`s debut album off my list:nono:

Feel a bit vindicated after the bitch-slapping I got after putting up my list (one of the first, I might add!) :D Seems that 24 of my choices made the top 50...not bad for a list which some accused of being a cut and paste from some top 50 on a Channel 4 web site! Oh yes, I remember!!! ;) (and Radiohead wasn't one of them)

Seems genres come and go, but class is permanent!

Good list though Red Nome...maybe the next list should be one where none of the above albums can be voted for? That would be interesting.

I've just heard a bunch of songs from radiohead...didn't like them at all. Then again,I'm old and am into rock music..not pop.
