Maybe you should exclude injured players?

Great draft EAP, it is a joy to watch from the sidelines and usually it gets extremely dull when the first matches and the last are a month apart with nonstop waiting for people not being on time etc.

This one has you clinched in even if you aren't participating just to follow how it unfolds. Great Hargriefs round, Theon/MJJ probably getting the short end of the stick here. But Scholes-Keane is always a winner in these drafts, Enzo is on a huge draft-boost and Hierro is great as he can be played in the midfield and at the back to equal effect.

Thankfully the participation has been great and the matches generate lots of interesting discussions. Not just the peole in sidelines, but the managers themselves seem to be loving it, going by their reactions...

Feck sake
feck me sideways, that's straight into the spine. Ouch!
feck this shit.

I don't like Keane in that role at all.
Jokes aside, I fully agree with you. He can be a slightly more defensive box-to-box out of three, but the pivot's role is not for him

Aye, it's just a waste

This is fecking brutal by the way, losing Sammer has ripped the heart out of the side. He's so difficult to replace.

@harms @Theon I'm just clarifying, Keane won't be a holding midfielder, he'll still have the explosive runs forward but the idea is to have 3 complete box to box midfielders, and have all three use their incredible shared work rate to press and run all over the pitch. The thing about Keano here is only a simple matter of He's the one I rate best defensively among that trio, so he'll be instructed to hold a little back and pick more carefully when to burst forward. Moreover, think about it like that, he wasn't too limited in going forward when partnered only with Scholes right? Why should he be limited when he has both Breitner and Seedorf to be defensively aware as well?

To be fair Keane-Scholes wasn't the best partnership defensive-wise, more of a gung-ho one. It's coming back again and again to our discussion about 3 box-to-box on the pitch, which is a very complicated issue. I would prefer a pure DM even if it means benching Seedorf (:(), but you know better, of course.

Thought you'd go for him. Anto shafted you a wee bit with Neeskens.
It was a tough decision and it isn't the most pragmatic or defensive of moves, but how can you turn down Romario.

Actually wouldn't have took Neeskens anyway. There are a couple of great midfielders here, none of them for that Sammer role mind.

Nah it has nothing to do with knowing better, it's just a question of ideas and opinions. I think Breitner-Seedorf offer Keane a bit more freedom in choosing the time to push forward. If he doesn't, he'll have someone who will do it instead of him and you can definitely trust him to do the defensive role, and if he does pushes forward you'll have either of Breitner/Seedorf who both have tremendous defensive abilities and awareness to cover for him. imo you can't ask for more balance in your midfield, doesn't lake work rate, creativity is fine with the added part from two of Enzo/Savicevic/Rummenigge, defensive awareness is top notch. The complete package.
Maybe if I qualify to the finals I'll change Seedorf and Keane and bring on a more defensive midfielder, maybe go for Sammer or Davids or someone in that defensive calibre, but that will be just a tactical change, I think my current midfield is as balanced as it comes.
Worst case scenario, I end up against a team like anto which has a classic #10 like Baggio there. Well, its definitely not the best thing for my team but I'm sure Keane had his fair share of games where SAF instructed him to be a little more defensive minded and keep a guy out of the game, Keane could definitely do that. It might not take his best qualities into the entire match but it does the business.. It's pretty much like we talked about Scirea as the CB, if he has the right attributes for being a top notch defender, he'll be a top notch defender even if you limit his attacking.

I know! I have to say I was tempted, just for kicks. Was one of five in my shortlist for this upgrade round, but with Vieri, Raúl and Baggio I'm pretty sorted.

I wouldn't be too confident about those midfielders, TRV definitely needs one and it's a no-brainer who he will pick. Viva is harder to predict, you may get lucky. Or not.
