 15pts 9.1 assists and the team record is real bad. Ouch

15 points isn't a bad average, really. This isn't the NBA of today, games are lower scoring (particularly when they involve altodevil). Quite a lot of games neither team scores a hundred points. 9 assists is also really good. But yeah, the team is... not as good.

Bracket:

1st Round

lStVLo9.png

All the higher seeds take the lead, except for in the 4v5 match-up in both conferences.
x30cEle.png

Seattle take a 2-0 lead over Houston, as do San Antonio over Sacramento. No warning bells quite yet for any of our players, but moves have to start being made.
f5rmCSf.png

That's a 3-0 lead now for Seattle (@The Cat, @Solius, @weetee) over Houston (@Samid). Not much of a surprise given we're talking 1-seed vs. 8-seed. You could say the same for @hobbers' San Antonio and @altodevil's Sacramento. If altodevil and Samid want to avoid getting swept, they have to act soon. So will @BenitoSTARR, who seems unable to drag his team past Chicago.
F6Bvdys.png

Three sweeps have been completed, all involving Cafites. Samid, altodevil and BenitoSTARR will have to hope their teams can improve over the off-season - or else that they find a new team entirely. We've now also got the Memphis boys @Stobzilla and @P-Nut in danger of being beaten by @Dr. Dwayne's Denver Nuggets. Meanwhile, @Dan and the Utah Jazz have evened things up with the Golden State Warriors.
nWjlzmN.png

And that's hit, we've lost another pair of Cafites. Stobzilla and P-Nut couldn't quite deal with the 3-seed Denver Nuggets. That means Dr. Dwayne has successfully knocked out his previous team and teammate (though they were the Vancouver Grizzlies when he played there, so he might not feel too bad about it).
ska3HPt.png

And that's another Cafite out! Dan couldn't deal with the Warriors. It probably didn't help that his teammate and starting Center Othella Harrington was out for the duration.
sCE30ED.png

2nd Round

vCPqOEV.png

Dr. Dwayne and the Denver Nuggets take the surprising lead against hobbers and the San Antonio Spurs, while the Seattle boys quite expectedly go up 1-0 against the Golden State Warriors
pYGqwfz.png

hobbers strikes back!
q2CEMdJ.png

San Antonio go up 2-1 now. Was Denver's opening just a consolation win? It also looks like Solius, The Cat and weetee might just sweep the Warriors now
nEhiycU.png

No sweep for the Seattle boys, and it's all even between hobbers and Dr. Dwayne.
2YWWiDV.png

Okay, it's official. The Seattle Supersonics are going to make their second straight Conference Finals, and their third in four years. We still don't know who they will play there, but we know it will involve a Cafite
e7zUreQ.png

And it's 3-3! What a thriller we're having.
qtXx9gn.png

It's going to be Seattle against San Antonio, weetee, Solius and The Cat against hobbers. Dr. Dwayne couldn't get past the 90-rating monster, but that's his first playoff appearance for several years so he can't be too disappointed. We're guaranteed to have a Cafite in the NBA Finals, where they will face the Chicago Bulls or the Atlanta Hawks.

@nimic - could you post a Sonics vs San Antonio team sheet? Is it possibke only to have the playoff stats featured there?

2004 Playoff Bracket

Quite a tale of two different RedCafes this year. Disappointment in the East, quite the opposite in the West (maybe except if your name is altodevil)

East: @BenitoSTARR is the only one who makes it, and barely at that! A 2-8 losing streak is not a particularly good sign. @Salt Bailly and @oneniltothearsenal miss out by just one game, while @reelworld was far from it. @Skizzo and @V.O. are probably the biggest disappointment, going back to the old Cleveland ways instead of getting back into the playoffs as expected. I'm rather disappointed in you easterners.

d0WU4bc.png

West: The only one who didn't make it in the west was @sebsheep, but he wasn't expected to either. That said, in the end even the worst record in the West was only wins away from making the playoffs (which also means that Salt Bailly and oneniltothearsenal would have made the playoffs if they were in the West). @Dan and @Samid are surprisingly in, as the 4th (!) and 8th seed. The rest were expected, though @altodevil might be disappointed that the reigning NBA Champions only barely made the playoffs. @P-Nut, @Stobzilla, @Dr. Dwayne, @hobbers, @weetee, @Solius and @The Cat will all duke it out in the playoffs. There's bound to be heartbreak.

Pretty embarrassing performance this year. Do we get a better draft pick now?

No surprise. Quite cool how Seattle drafted a dynasty though.

Bracket after the 2nd Round

qtXx9gn.png

Conference Finals - it's @hobbers vs. @The Cat, @Solius and @weetee! hobbers will have to do it without Pau Gasol, who is out injured.

70cbfTQ.png

First blood goes to the Seattle Supersonics!

Best performance: Solius with 26/6/12 (22.7 GameScore)

iIjJh9o.png

The Spurs strike back!

Best performance: hobbers with 34/9/18 (40.7 GmSc)
Yi0ZR5h.png

The Spurs have taken the lead!

Best performance: hobbers with 26/8/14 (30.5 GmSc)
wIUndwL.png

2-2, we're even again!

The good news is that Pau Gasol is back for the Spurs.

Best performance: hobbers with 35/3/14 (34.3 GmSc)

Dprh5CQ.png

Pau Gasol being back couldn't stop the Supersonics from taking a 3-2 lead. Potentially just one game away!

Best performance: Solius with 34/4/12 (34.4 GmSc)
u3x1t0d.png

And there it is, the Seattle boys (Solius, weetee and The Cat) are going to the finals again! It's been a few years since last time. There they will face the Chicago Bulls, who've been really impressive so far in the playoffs. These are clearly the two best teams in the NBA this season.

Best performance: hobbers with 29/15/9 (37.4 GmSc)

NBA Finals

iCOzd5N.png

108-91

Again our boys get a good start!

Best performance: Jermaine O'Neal (Seattle) with 38/6/3 (31.5 GmSc)
mPEOXE9.png

102-89

Extending the lead, this is easy!

Best performance: Jermaine O'Neal (Seattle) with 31/12/1 (23.9 GmSc)
gtfsEn9.png

106-102 (OT <- one period of overtime)

Is this going to be a sweep? That's 3-0 already. Chicago have been so good so far, but it sure seems like weetee, Solius and The Cat are too much for them to handle. Well, and Jermaine O'Neal, who has been the best performer for Seattle in all three games games so far. The bad news is that Seattle's usually-starting Center, Jeff Foster, has been injured - as has back-up PG Charlie Bell.

Best performer: Vince Carter (Chicago) with 39-10-6 (34.6 GmSc)
RJRaSaA.png

96-113

The sweep is called off, and it was quite a convincing victory by the Bulls too. To make matters worse Seattle have suffered a third injury now. This time it's PF Scott Padget, who often starts and always gets a decent amount of minutes. He started this game after the others were injured.

Best performance: Solius with 29/6/8 (25.9 GmSc)
XU5C3KO.png

84-99

That's two quick ones, what are our boys doing?

Best performance: Vince Carter with 39/6/10 (39.3 GmSc)
1kEo2EJ.png

97-104

It's 3-3! Are we going to see the reverse sweep in the finals? Are Solius, weetee and The Cat just going to let it slip out of their hands after being one game away from being 2x NBA Champions? Previously-injured Scott Padget is now playing through a sprained foot in a desperate attempt to avoid humiliation.

Best performance: Vince Carter with 24/10/7 (26.6 GmSc)
3jI6nC8.png

99-95

Crisis averted! It was close, but Seattle managed to bring it home in the final minutes of the game. That makes the Seattle Supersonics 3-time NBA Champions and all of Solius, weetee and The Cat 2-time champions! Congratulations!

Best performance: Solius with 34/6/5 (25.3 GmSc)

Impressive. Feel like me and jobbers have been hard done by though by being too good immediately. Better to be shite and get high picks for your team.

Feck's sake.

I was injured. Unless I wasn't injured, in which case, we were tanking. :nervous:

You had 4 separate small injuries, totalling 25-ish games. You're actually not tanking, the Cavs still think they're 'contending'. Well, we'll see when the new season starts.

Edit: but it's not a good sign when the team with the regular season assist and scoring leader finishes 2nd to last in the Conference.

Probably. You've got a 3% chance of signing a new contract though, so you just better hope you end up with a good team and not an even worse one. hobbers has 15% chance. That means there's a non-zero chance you guys just swap teams, because they both suddenly have money.

Booom!

@weetee @The Cat we did it baby
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Proper final - TV ratings must have been off the charts!

Shout out to that imaginary kiddo who played B-Ball with me as a barefooded little lad at the Copacabana when everybody else was playing football.

Draft and Free Agency are probably coming later today, but here's something:

neTgAta.png

That makes it an even 30. There will be an expansion draft, where they can select one player from each team up to a maximum of 14. Teams can protect 8 of their players from selection. I suspect all of you will be protected, so this probably won't have much of an impact. But 4 of you (altodevil, hobbers, Stobzilla, The Cat) have expiring contracts, and Charlotte will probably have some money to spend on salary.

Those four end up in one single team and I might consider retirement.

Those four end up in one single team and I might consider retirement.
I actually really want to see them on a team together.

It makes it more satisfying when we show them how feeble and insignificant their human efforts are.

BenitoSTARR is our MVP for 03/04! He beat hobbers by a tiny margin, and in fact was behind him for most of the season. Solius rounds out the All NBA 1st Team, with altodevil and Dr. Dwayne appearing in the 2nd Team, as well as V.O., oneniltothearsenal and P-Nut in the 3rd Team. altodevil, hobbers, Solius, oneniltothearsenal and BenitoSTARR all also appeared in the All-Defensive Teams, and no points for predicting that altodevil would become the Defensive Player of the Year. Again. On top of that, Solius was both semifinals and finals MVP - and he, The Cat and weetee all won their second championship ring.

04/05 Draft and Free Agency
04/05 Draft and Free Agency (and some trades!)

So, I just realized that quite a few trades actually take place in this game during free agency. The reason I didn't notice is that it puts those trades in the previous year, and I stop checking trades after the trade deadline. Because it's the trade deadline. The only reason I noticed this time is because... well, we'll get to that.

First, the draft! The top 12, anyway.
  1. Dwight Howard (57 overall) to the Portland Trailblazers
  2. Luol Deng (55) to the Boston Celtics
  3. Andre Iguodala (59) to the Indiana Pacers via the Minnesota Timberwolves
  4. Josh Childress (56) to the Milwaukee Bucks via the Cleveland Cavaliers
  5. J.R. Smith (55) to the Los Angeles Lakers
  6. Trevor Ariza (52) to the Los Angeles Clippers
  7. Josh Smith (53) to the New Orleans Hornets
  8. Shaun Livingston (46) to the Dallas Mavericks
  9. Devin Harris (54) to the Indiana Pacers via the Philadelphia 76ers
  10. Ben Gordon (54) to the Phoenix Suns
  11. Al Jefferson (43) to the Seattle Supersonics via the Washington Wizards
  12. Emeka Okafor (55) to the Miami Heat

Free Agency:

@The Cat has signed a new contract with the Seattle Supersonics worth $5.7M/yr through 2008. The Cat knows a good thing when he sees it.
@Stobzilla has re-signed with the Memphis Grizzlies for $3.78M/yr through 2008.
@altodevil has signed with the Los Angeles Lakers for $14.26M/yr through 2009. It's not Seattle, but they do spend a lot on coaching and physios.
@hobbers has decided he wants to try something new, and so has chosen the newest thing around and signed for the Charlotte Bobcats for $14.44M/yr through 2009.

Trade News (only big trades involving you or your teams)

RTuY8n8.png

It seems like the Miami Heat are actually going for it. @oneniltothearsenal can decide for himself whether this seems worth it.

pNRMtDi.png

This marks the first time the 76ers have been Cafite-less since we started this thing. I guess they're tanking, but was it really worth it getting rid of a young, good and not very highly paid @reelworld? Their loss is his... gain? Time will tell.

Uc1TED3.png

A clear statement of intent from the Nets, getting rid of older or worse players, plus some draft picks, to acquire @sebsheep.

hmLwK4a.png

Now that's surprising! @weetee just won his second title with the Supersonics, and they decide to turn him into 3 other players (and a worthless draft pick). I guess they might have started regretting handing him that massive contract, though it did lead to a couple of championships.

Lakers baby - who cares about the roster, I'm a Lakers centre.

Finally Eastcoast!
Feck the Sonics - ungrateful bunch. Top teammates though.

 great coincidence as I'm actually a Suns fan, and I had Steve Nash in mind when creating the player
