In this case, the citizens will be armed and form an army to support the tyrannical government.

The current events have only strengthened him enormously - all the coverage he is getting now compared to Biden who can't get a look in and who's election campaign will not really get off the ground due to COVID stopping rallys and more importantly funding events.
I had him down as winning before this pandemic, but now I think he's going to struggle. He's being a total clown and doing it while people watch their friends and families dying. That's not going to help him any.

He knows he'd only done one good thing in the lead up to the crisis, which was ban travel to and from China at the same time as other major countries, and he continues to milk that point to everyone so people forget the absolute shite he had done other than that, including calling the disease a hoax multiple times.
Doesn't help that Biden has acted like a clown and is an easy target for Trump. I think Trump is winning this more comfortably than in 2016.

I don't think that's a strategical master class. His communication on these issues is quite transparent and desperate. I think its effectiveness is more down to how the media and opposition deal with it, as well as the US electorate itself. I mean even the supposed "good" guys came up with perhaps the only major politician who is more senile than Trump himself to challenge him.

Anecdotal, I know, but I have an uncle living near Boston and he posts stuff on social media thanking god it's Trump leading the nation during this pandemic and not a democrat. The people who are part of the cult won't change their minds because of this, no matter how many people die, they'll just convince themselves that with a democrat it would've been worse.
