He's been performing like this fairly consistently for at least a couple of seasons now. Big game player as well. Would be my choice for DM. But then I don't get to make the call...

I only see them in big games but if he's not the best DM/8 in the world I'm not sure who is.

Ive seen a few games he's played over the last couple of seasons, always liked him and thought he was underrated. Would be great if we can bring him in, adds experience as well.

This is the guy I want. I personally think DLP's are not as effective as they once were, what we need is a specialist beast CDM cleaning up in front of the back 4, with a more creative #8 and a #10 (or two creative, attacking eights) ahead of him. Fluid, effective football.

Partey
+1 and Fernandes

Would be good I reckon.

Partey, Grealish and Sancho are the three players I want desperately in the summer. I think with those, we could challenge. The squad wouldn’t be complete (still need another CB and a striker, plus a couple of v good backups) but it’d be close.

We’re gonna sell Pogba so I think financially those three wouldn’t cost us more than £120m net, which is around what I reckon our budget would be.

This man is in form and back to his best before his injury. Very solid and a good ballwinner. I have watched him few games now, lastest. Seem like he is closing to his max pontential/his best. On a more consistent level. If Matic is leaving. Partey would be a really take over and replacement.

What a monster, defensively sound and disciplined yet still highly skillfull in passing and dribbling. He even fancies himself a shot from distance on occasion too

It'd be a dream having him protecting our back line while Bruno and Fred get to play further ahead

Sorry to be a Partey pooper, but I don't think Ole will be prioritising a defensive midfielder in the summer. Between Matic, Fred and McTominay, I reckon he'll be thinking he has enough cover, regards defence minded midfielders.

Think we'll get an attacking midfielder, striker and winger.

Matic
Fred
McTominay
Bruno
Attacking Midfielder

Fred and Partey in the same team would be overkill... for the opposition. 100% intensity and harrying :D

As above though, he wouldn't be a priority signing. We have enough defensive/central midfield cover.

Hopefully we'd still have Pogba, if not then a genuine class wide, a creative central player and perhaps a forward for our priority. It's bit a tricky act in terms of who to fill in or replace.

Wardrobe.
If we can't get Ndidi then we should go for him.
Partey is the superior player in my opinion. Much better on the ball.

I don't really regard Fred as a defensive midfielder and McTominay isn't a natural defensive mid either. I think our only specialist is Matic, who I expect to leave in the summer.

I wanted Partey last summer and want him still!
I know two midfielders is a big ask in one summer for our club, but that's what I think is required to take our midfield to the next level. But I wouldn't be surprised if we only sign one midfielder either a creative midfielder or defensive midfielder.
However, if both Matic and Pogba leave this summer then I think two midfielders are necessary.

Is he not more of a defensive-minded #8, rather than a #6? His dribbling ability and eagerness to break forward means he'd be more likely compete with Fred for a place than with Matic, no? Doesn't strike me as a holding player, capable though he is (although perhaps you'd argue we don't need a proper holding player).

He's definitely good on the ball but Saul has had that number 8 role on lock for Atleti for a while now.

Partey has been Simeone's first choice holding/DM since 2018 and has excelled in the role and is the best at the position in Spain along with Casemiro

From what I understand every player that joins a la Liga side has a buyout clause so I assume the cheap clause for partey is legit.

Yeah those three signed and I wouldn't be averse to signing Ighalo on a permanent deal, however despite the top performance against Liverpool and rumoured low release clause Utd still seemingly have no interest in him whatsoever which is staggering

He's been on my wishlist since last year. He's become the best holding/defensive MF in Spain and would allow the likes of Fred and Bruno to do a lot of damage in attack

He's what people thought/expected Weigl would be a few years ago and has a relatively cheap, in this market, release clause

I would absolutely love it if we signed him. I remember reading last summer his release clause was 50m which imo is an absolute steal.

Get it done Ed

I mean he did just give an interview where he said he wants to retire at Atletico and would stay there forever unless “they don’t love me” anymore.
seems like he probably wouldn’t want a move away anyway......

So much discussion, so few actual links to any interest.
There wont be any links. Club views McTominay as the long term guy, and we have Matic as cover for the meantime too. I'm ok with that too as McTominays progression has been tremendous, so we'll see where it goes.

'Storm Denis' would be just as good from Gladbach. Would likely be cheaper and 3 and half years younger.

Him, a RW and striker should make United challenging again. I love McTom, but sadly I don't see him any close to Partey. McTom and Fred should battle for the other spot.

Wouldn't mind Grealish too for another attacking outlet, still feels like Partey is not even an after thought for Utd this summer

Agree with this. Haven't seen enough of this guy to be sure, but he does seem to be exactly the type of player we need. McTominay and Fred isn't bad at all but we're an injury away from playing Bruno there so we need a real quality addition to that midfield.

Find all the people suddenly saying we don't need a DM hilarious. Matic manages to put two good performances together after looking like he needed a zimmerframe for most of the season. And in his absence, neither Fred or McTominay were able to do anything to protect our insanely leaky defence. They are not defensive players. They are engine-room, box-to-box players. And Matic is great, but only if he is rested for at least as many games as he plays.

I have a hunch there's a touch of people being more interested in buying a load of exciting, glamorous forwards to make the team look shiny. But we need to fix the problems that actually exist in the squad, which means someone like Partey should be much, much more important than going after Grealish or Maddison. Obviously we'll need a RW and Sancho is the big target there, so really that should be plenty to keep the striker muppets dribbling.

Spot on. The thing is we need a CDM, a RW and Grealish or Maddison just as much. Woodward and the Glazers need to stop operating on a set budget to solve this glaring issues in the team.
