Proper set piece coach would be quite something. When was the last time we scored from a corner? Only seem to freaking concede from them.

Apparently it’s a thing. Interesting article about Liverpool’s bloke. Hate to say it but the attention to detail from Klopp is impressive.

Should every club have one? Should there be coaches specific to other techniques?
It's commonly overlooked but very impactful. On average there's something like 45 throw-ins per game; far too often teams default to just chucking towards the tall bloke. Studying NBA in-bounds plays and utilising even rudimentary patterns can have a huge impact.

Remember hearing about this when he got appointed - are there any stats to show Liverpool have markedly improved at throw-ins because of him?

Also, slightly random question... what is the greatest Throw-In of all time? and would such a thing be worth its own thread?!

Went from 45.4% retention which was 3rd worst in the PL to 68.4% after he was appointed, which was 2nd best in Europe. A difference of 23% given an average of 45 throw-ins per game total (so 22.5 per team) works out to an extra 5 possessions per game roughly. Not insignificant at all if you ask me.

Plus the more intangible stuff, like players receiving a throw in with a bit more time/space than one less accurate/powerful.

Anything Rory Delap related or the one that did the front flip and threw it. Not sure it gets much more exciting really.

Yep exactly. Hard to quantify easily but maybe if you looked at something like xG chain in those scenarios I'd expect they'd have improved as well.

If players benefit by throwing further or more accurately then there are not really any negatives.

If you read the interview, it really sounds very useful for fairly little effort. A couple of training sessions on technique and positioning, some one-on-one with key players, and that's about it. I don't see any downside, really. In a sport this big with so much money attached, it's criminal to overlook any detail that can easily be actioned and improved.

This is pretty impressive btw - the way that ball just rockets away from him once he lets go!
