Top 4 (let's hope top 5) race

I doubt you'll recover top 4/5 but you'll probably win the Europa.

For all your teams flaws you're a pretty good cup side and alwaysby hook or by crook dodge two seasons out of the UCL.

Not as good as Arsenal who United knocked out of the FA Cup with 10 men for an hour.

Last season won the FA cup by beating Liverpool and Man City. Two sides a lot better than what's left in the Europa league this season.

I feel our cup team thing is slightly undermined by the two leg format in the Europa. On our day we can probably beat anybody, but stringing two competent results together feels like a big ask for us currently. Still, it’s something to aim for and be optimistic about.

"Mathematically" our chance of winning the EL is very close to zero. We're struggling against even the weakest teams in England, the results are poor, Amorim's tactics is a disaster, we have a goal difference of -4... Poor season. Again.

If you're trying to figure out our chances of winning the EL, especially from a mathematical standpoint, wouldn't it make more sense to look at the EL standings and stats?

Did you get an Essian calculator for Christmas?

Utd 9/2 favourite to win EL
Very different competition without the 3rd place teams in the CL dropping down. But Spanish teams have a great record in the competition, would fancy Athletic to beat us over two legs.

You may be right …though bookies have taken a different view

I think we will meet Spurs in the semi and Bilbao in the final. I am pretty confident we can do this!
We desperately need CL next season for PSR to proper rebuild the team.
Being in the CL will also bring confidence to the player and believe in Amorim's style of play.
We will also attract high profile players with CL.

To me, this is the most important tournament to win and should be our main focus.
Let's be honest, we won't get 5th in the PL and winning the FA Cup will only qualify us to EL next season.

Weakest teams in the PL would beat some of the Europa teams in fairness. I think we will have a good shot, we play a risk adverse brand of football with a big squad and a lot of generally good players, as much as they might be out of form. Typically being conservative/defensive in cups bodes well.

I honestly would not be that surprised if we have a charge for 5th, we're 12 points off which is a big gap but everyone will keep dropping points and we have a few games on the bounce we can build some momentum (Palace, Spurs, Everton, ipswich). Believe!

Yet we finished 3rd was it in the league? Hardly impossible.

Spurs have defeated us twice this season. We are steadying the ship but poor going forward.

Optimistic to think we'll take more than 7 points from those games...we have been averaging about 1.2 / 1.3 pts a game for 18-months now.

Couple of decent draws, scraping past Southampton and Rangers at home...comfortably beaten at OT by Brighton...drab 1-0 vs Fulham...none of it indicates we're a better side than 1.2 / 1.3 ppg now.

We can only meet them in the final. If the top 4 is Lazio, Bilbao, United and Spurs, then it'll be one of the first 2 against one of the latter 2 in the semis, and then the winner of each in the final. Won't meet any before.

"Past performance does not necessarily equate to future results"

I think the players are slowly getting the hang of how to get the WBs and 10s more into the game. We aren't playing well but I feel there's more unity now. I will go out on a limb and say we will take 9/12 points, if I am wrong the Kenwood juicer is yours.

"Necessarily" being the key word there

Virtually nothing is knowable with certainty, so we take past performances and then apply context and our own insights to make predictions.

If we'd beaten someone like Bournemouth, Newcastle or Villa, I would have been far more optimistic.

Rangers, let's face it...appalling. Steaua...let's face it...appalling. Southampton...on course to be the worst-ever PL team.

All of these games were too close for comfort, although Steaua admittedly ended up being fairly comfortable.

Brighton dominated us. That's my biggest concern. When we dominate a decent team, win or lose, then I'll start to trust this team a little.

Putting away really weak opponents in an unconvincing manner or valiant draws vs strong opponents in a low/middle block setup doesn't convince me that we can suddenly go on some kind of run.

Bear in-mind, we play Palace at the weekend...lose that, which we easily, easily could do based on Southampton and Rangers...and suddenly it's doom and gloom again. We have a terrible recent record vs Spurs...Everton away with Moyes in charge...not easy. OK, we should beat Ipswich...but they're better than Southampton and Rangers!

When you concede so many goals from set-pieces, you can basically lose any game to any team.

I have a feeling that juicer is in the bag personally.

My bad. I think we will play Bilbao in Semi and Spurs in Final. Both team I'm quite confident we can beat them even though they are the strongest team left in the competition.

Amorim have improved us defensively and keep us very compact. This is especially useful in cup competition. We are also pretty good in penalty. Even though our attack is weak we are capable of scoring every game.

Oh yeah we've been diabolical, but I live in the hope we have a period of volatility (we're in that now) followed by a steady climb back to where this squad should really be i.e. fighting for EL places. People on here have done what the caf always does and flown to extremes, that we're a horrendous team full of average players (it's like clockwork) but we're not on both counts.

I feel/hope the crawl back up the table will now begin, loads of teams are dropping points at the moment - the juicer remains in escrow.

Shall I nip over this evening for the juicer?

Go all in now in EL to qualify for CL next season.

PL is truly gone. We have just been totally outplayed by CP at OT!

What happened if we won the EL and qualify for next season CL but relegated to play in Championship? First?

I didn’t see the false 9 which I think was wild but we need one more game until I’m out of luck.
I'm not a doom-mongerer at all but I see absolutely no reason to believe that this team is capable of stringing together wins in the Premier League.

Our forward line yesterday was 20, 22 and 19. You can't consistently win games of football in the modern era with such inexperience. Throw in a teenage CB and Ugarte (23) and it's not hard to see why we're consistently outdone by teams like Palace - who for all their lack of technical quality have the street smarts and nous.

Oh its really bad, the worst I think post SAF quite easily so no doom mongering but the reality is the difference between winning and losing is never that vast.

The juicer looks as good as yours but I live in foolish hope.

Would say just concentrate on Europa, however we are due to meet sides better than us soon. People on the CAF are definitely overrating us in this competition just for being unbeaten.

I thought Spurs were favourites to win Europa league a few months back? Guess that was after Man. United's slow start with the three draws.

I fancy Bilbao. Comfortably top 4 in Spain, solid and physical defence and Williams brothers in attack so will also be good on the counter.

Yeah Bilbao is a very good shout

Spurs joint favorite with Man Utd. Bilbao is close too.

In my book, it's easier to win than the FA Cup. In FA Cup, there are teams like City, Pool, Arsenal, Chelsea even Villa, Brighton and Forest!

The FA Cup doesn't get us into the champions league, though.
