Just stating facts, so no explanation needed

1. Chris Rea - Driving Home For Christmas
The ultimate Christmas song, really.

2. The Pogues - Fairytale Of New York
This could honestly have been number 1, but I had to make a choice...

3. Dean Martin - Let it Snow
Many good versions of this song, but Dean Martin's is my favorite.

4. Tony Bennett - Winter Wonderland
Same reasoning as above, but this time I prefer Tony Bennett.

5. Michael Bublé - It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
His voice is perfectly suited for this particular song.

Depends where you are. In a noisy old-fashioned pub (if you can find one) it's Slade. At home I'd pick Pogues or Lennon.

Let it Snow, Winter Wonderland and It's Beginning to Look are all sugary yankee shite, I can't imagine anyone younger than total geriatric liking them.

I can't remember every hearing Driving Home. I might click on it in a bit.

Oh yeah there's that but, at the same time, neither one looks particularly comfortable in eachothers presence.
Clash of ages and musical cultures I guess, in-coming and out-going. Can't imagine Bing rocking out to Bowie on his nights off eh?

Still, this track really hardwires me back to my childhood and our big family gatherings.

True.

Concerning Xmas songs, I dont think I've heard any recently before clicking onto this thread. Not exactly feeling the Xmas spirit this year.

There's a clear air of tension in the Bowie and Crosby duet.
Crosby didn't know who Bowie was and Bowie hated the song and only agreed to do Crosby's show because his mum was a big Crosby fan (and only eventually agreed to do the song when the writers wrote a counter-melody and a new bridge).

I love this one, it's been performed by opera stars and modern legends (and even Cartman), but this version by Carrie Underwood is breathtaking. The quality, power and control in her voice is amazing.

Not exactly feeling the Xmas spirit this year.
That's why it's so important this year. I think eveyone's Christmas will be different to normal for obvious reasons, I am going to try and make the most of it this year. If you feel a bit melancholic, try the whole Low Christmas album. Beautiful, but a very low key mood.

Crosby didn't know who Bowie was and Bowie hated the song and only agreed to do Crosby's show because his mum was a big Crosby fan (and only eventually agreed to do the song when the writers wrote a counter-melody and a new bridge).
Is this true? Bowie didn't like the song?

In no particular order:

Vandals - I Don't Believe in Santa Clause (brilliant Subhumans pastiche from a great Christmas album)
Echolyn - Winterthru (I don't think this is positive about Christmas either :) )
Let It Snow (no idea which version, but that Dean Martin one sounds good)
Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas (lyrically extremely cringy, I know)
Mud - Lonely This Christmas (it doesn't get cheesier than this)
Slade - Merry Xmas Everybody (bonus because of the negative songs)
