Anyone else, hope we Get DeJong, but really don't care if we move on if Barca want too much? I'd love to have him, but also would not mind them looking at other middies.
Who is the RB target thenIt's uironic you're saying this because today is probably the first time this window where our targets are clear- De Jong, Eriksen, Martinez, Antony and a right back
Well, as I say, hopefully I'm wrong, but I just can't see a player who contributed very little to a lower team in La Liga over 2 years, and who may have been decent in a handful of internationals in a couple of months, being any sort of prospect for a Utd team hopeful of any sort of resurgence.I've watched a bunch of Uruguay's games, and he's caught my eye in the more recent ones. He may not have been a goalscoring threat, but that's because Uruguay play a 4-4-2. He has been their biggest creative threat in recent games and has racked up some impressive assists in the recent internationals.
At what point does that stop though? We've had the reputation of overpaying for years - which leads to teams being able to demand £80m upfront and us paying it, players being able to demand ridiculous wages after a year of decent return etc. It's expensive, but do we really have an option ? He is ETH's choice - and I would rather we pay £10 million too much and give our manager a chance to get his players in than get a cheaper one who is his third choice.
Since the Sancho saga (of 100 mil), I don't think we have over payed. Jong is a WC player so £70 mil is the right amount. The last time we over payed was the Maguire-AWB window. At what point does that stop though? We need to start having the sense to walk away from deals, that will stop other clubs taking the piss, same with sales - Pereria was basically thrown back at us because we didn't extend his loan, even though the club that loaned him agreed to a fee last year.
There's a reason why the club should have different options, but it seems we're all in on FDJ (to the point where its suggested other deals are on hold until it's sorted) which puts us in a weak position, even when the selling club is desperate for cash.
We overpayed for Sancho. And we gave him world class salary.Dortmund did hat trick on us.Since the Sancho saga (of 100 mil), I don't think we have over payed. Jong is a WC player so £70 mil is the right amount. The last time we over payed was the Maguire-AWB window.
I think there may be some reasons for an exception here. Having someone on the pitch who knows exactly what EtH is looking for will be a big support to the coachAt what point does that stop though? It’s who ETH has identified as his Number 1 signing if we pull out now it’s a bad start for him. Just get it done.Anyone else, hope we Get DeJong, but really don't care if we move on if Barca want too much? I'd love to have him, but also would not mind them looking at other middies.
Sancho at £70m ish was basically due to the covid situation, Dortmund and United were in uncharted territory at that point, I wouldn't say £70m and £250k a week was/is a bargain.Since the Sancho saga (of 100 mil), I don't think we have over payed. Jong is a WC player so £70 mil is the right amount. The last time we over payed was the Maguire-AWB window.
You don’t always have to tear it up on loan to develop. It’s also partly the experience of fighting for first team football. Pellistri is 20 so at a good age to take a positive step forward.Well, as I say, hopefully I'm wrong, but I just can't see a player who contributed very little to a lower team in La Liga over 2 years, and who may have been decent in a handful of internationals in a couple of months, being any sort of prospect for a Utd team hopeful of any sort of resurgence.
To me it screams "X is coming back, its basically like a new signing".
Hope to be proved horribly wrong but I'd bet he doesn't see a minute of game time in the coming season.
I keep clicking in looking for a tweet full stop. The waffle to tweet ratio is not good.I keep clicking in here expecting to see a tweet with some movement ,but nothing again. Ah well it will get done when it gets done.
Use the live feed then. If you just want to see tweets. Then if you see a tweet you want to talk about cluck the button to jump to discussionI keep clicking in looking for a tweet full stop. The waffle to tweet ratio is not good.

aslong as the plan b is equally as good then yes. If there is no plan b, or the plan b is a budget version that’s not as a good as him then no. My guess is if it’s not FDJ then it’ll be neves maybe.. so it’s a matter of preference.. FDJ for 80mil euros or Neves for 55mil and a little spare for other players.Anyone else, hope we Get DeJong, but really don't care if we move on if Barca want too much? If we're going by post SAF, we probably are.But are we really overpaying that much for FDJ ?
Sorry dude but that’s an atrocious idea.If I were us, I'd pay Eriksen a small fee for holding out with his decision. Basically a "Wait and see if we get De Jong"-fee.
Then we're able to see Barca out and wait for them to lower the price for De Jong. If they are not to be dealt with, then give Eriksen an improved offer and promise him a solid amount of playing time
Thank feck you’re not in charge. If I were us, I'd pay Eriksen a small fee for holding out with his decision. Basically a "Wait and see if we get De Jong"-fee.

In this case we're at a shop that I wouldn't useSancho at £70m ish was basically due to the covid situation, Dortmund and United were in uncharted territory at that point, I wouldn't say £70m and £250k a week was/is a bargain.
And to say we haven't been stung since then is a little disingenuous as we've only really signed Sancho (debatable), Varane (unfortunate with injuries) and Ronaldo (wages are huge) - we've signed Amad who didn't show anything in first team football when we paid 18m for him - nearly forgot VDB at £32m too.
It's fair to say we've overpaid consistently.
@Daengophile there will always be a reason to keep pursuing a certain transfer - but if the other side isn't budging, even though they're in a financial mess, then showing backbone and setting boundaries to other clubs then that's worth more.

Good luck with that . We can't even sell Dean Henderson who's a solid goalkeeper.Tweet

The market for keepers is kind of low, compared to that of outfielders. We would probably take a hit on the price because of the stupid wages though.Good luck with that . We can't even sell Dean Henderson who's a solid goalkeeper.

Newcastle are apparently trying to buy Pope. And here they are trying to sell a gk that would be good for them. The market for keepers is kind of low, compared to that of outfielders. We would probably take a hit on the price because of the stupid wages though.
Pope is a better GK and will demands lesser wages. No brainer reallyNewcastle are apparently trying to buy Pope. And here they are trying to sell a gk that would be good for them.
Given the high wages to ability ratio of our deadwood we will get next to nothing for them if it’s permanent sales we wantTweet

Problem is, the people who are actually in charge probably think exactly the same way!Thank feck you’re not in charge.
No. No they don't.Problem is, the people who are actually in charge probably think exactly the same way!
Eriksen's playing time would not depend on whether De Jong joins in any way, as they play completely different roles and positions. If I were us, I'd pay Eriksen a small fee for holding out with his decision. Basically a "Wait and see if we get De Jong"-fee.

Everybody knows we are a shit show...watch people queue up to loan players of us as we pay half their wages. We couldn’t give our squad players away with the wages they are on.Tweet

So much talk and nothing to show for it.
Our players are poor. That's why no one wants them.Everybody knows we are a shit show...watch people queue up to loan players of us as we pay half their wages. We couldn’t give our squad players away with the wages they are on.
Thank you football Einstein - I take it you'd then play a midfield 3 of Eriksen, Bruno and De Jong? None of them are great at the wings, and all will want regular playing timeThank feck you’re not in charge.
