He's looking like a good centre half isn't he? Ideal for the premier league and a physical beast to go with it. Every top 6 side could do with a new CB so fair to throw his name into the mix for a attainable PL player at a decent price?

He looks quite good. Kept Martial in his pocket last game. We lack a left footed center half

I have a dislike for him due to his brutal stamps on Ibrahimovic and Oliveira, I do however think he's probably the best CB outside of the top 6. Think he's much better than players like Lascelles and Ake.

Would gladly have him, but he would probably be very expensive now, he’s 26, England international and Villa bought him for £25m. So even though he has been very good and imposing for Villa, if they stay up, we’d probably have to go full Maguire mode to get him. Not sure that’s smart because our squad has bigger issues.

Horrible wanker, hope he ends up in the conference.

Not sure he's what we need but would be a good option if we look to offload permacrocks.

I'd have him over Lindelof right now personally.

Quicker, stronger, taller, seems better on the ball too. We could do a lot worse.

Saying that we should have probably just kept Smalling.

He’s alright. Certainly improved for the laughing stock he was at Bournemouth.

Villa paid £26.5m for him, btw. Good luck getting him for anything reasonable.

Everybody would want to be on his team on training session, that's for sure.

Someone like Ake is a lot better.

Think he'd be priced no more than £50-60m and Villa would sell.

Mings
Ake
Soyuncu

The three best outside the PL big boys? With Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal and City in desperate need of a CB can see movement in the summer. United and Liverpool could both take any too although as mentioned we have other areas to prioritise.

If a chance came up to get Mings though I'd seriously consider it in line with our other plans.

I hate his face, I just want to punch him. But yes, I agree with your assertion that he's a good PL defender.

It's remarkable Villa are sitting 1 point above the relegation zone when apparently about half their team are 50m+ players.....

If you disagree with what people are saying fine but that's not a valid reason to make a veiled criticism of individual players.

You don't rate Mings, Grealish, Mcginn or just the valuations?

Its what I refer to as the West Ham paradox - a team with plenty of players apparently worth of the top 4 constantly underperforming despite being stocked with elite players. Or more likely just media overhype of the individuals.

Grealish seems the real deal, the other two are merely decent premier league players. Mings for example is pretty error prone and gets caught out quite often but he catches the eye because he's massive and often dominant aside from that.

West Ham also produced Ferdinand, Carrick, Lampard though.. but I do get your point. That said I do rate Grealish, McGinn and Mings. Think they are good quality players who could make the step up.

I mean we're going back over 20 years now with those names. It's not that they've never had good players its just that they've apparently constantly got 3, 4, 5 elite players in their side yet mysteriously never look anything more than a mid-table team or worse side outperformed by sides with individuals who get less praise. Then quite often those players never go on to to do anything notable beyond their West Ham career. Declan Rice I think will be a very good example of this.

He's not quite as good as Maguire but I'd have taken him at £26m long before Maguire at £80m, that's for sure. We also arguably have as good a CB as him on loan to Roma, anyway.

Graelish is the Villa player I'd want but he'd cost a fortune too.

He was good in early part of the season but struggled in last few games.

I think a part of that is since England starting calling on him regularly. Southgate obviously told him he was being picked for his ball playing and every game now he overplays at the back and loses the ball that leads to chance for opposition. The corner that lead to your first goal v us came from him simply not just clearing it.

Needs to go back to basics imo when he comes back from injury.

Just think this time next year you can be demanding 200 billion for Matheus Pererira in 19th place... ;)

There are always good players in relegation teams (I still think we'll be fine, just a tough run of fixtures). If you look back to 2019 CL final Shaqiri, Sissoko and Wjanaldum all involved and they all had relegations from premier league in previous three seasons and then cost the buying club 15m +.

Absolutely not, he’s a dirty animal and I wouldn’t want anyone like him near the club

I think this guy provided the most important contribution to the England Euros campaign.

His first 2 starts before Maguire came back I thought he was England's best player, maybe behind Sterling. Was catching a lot of flak on here before the tournament as being a liability.

I’ve said a few times in the past he’s not as bad as some here like to make out.

Decent.

Caf rules are you're either an 8+ out of 10 player or you're Sunday League. For our transfers, if they have a single bad season or don't hit the ground running, their name appears in the 'deadwood' thread.

I don't mean to scare anyone but would he and Maguire be a good partnership?

I only ask because I have a bit of a interest in left footed CB's. He is decent on the ball isn't he? Or am I remembering wrong and he is a left footed smalling?

Absolutely not, he's a lunatic who's out of position more times then he's in it.
