Shouldn't any player who is selectable for the U21 be playing for the U21 side? Even though they have played for the full side? Other countries do that.
not sure national teams do it as much as they did in the past, at one time the likes of Ferran Torres, Pedri, Eric Garcia for Spain, Musiala for Germany, probavbly a few for Portugal would be there but they now play for the National Team

Aidy Boothroyd: "The U21s is the utterly impossible job"

Every other U21 coach experiences the same thing, Aidy! England's young talent is (for once, genuinely) the envy of most other nations. If there wasn't such an abundance of talent, he wasn't making such poor selection decisions, the style of play wasn't so tumescent and he hadn't been persisted with despite major failure, I might have some sympathy for him but... hell no. We need someone new in, pronto.
Crazy statement. He's just desperately throwing out nonsense to try and save his job. Said he expected Mount and Bellingham to be in the squad too but wasn't allowed. Mount hasn't played for the u21s for almost 2 year. No idea why he would be involved. Think Bellingham has about 3/4 caps for the u21s, it's fair to expect him to be involved but he's hardly a key player plucked out of the team last minute. Bizarre excuses.

If you're a fringe player then probably but if you're a starter or make regular appearances for the senior squad then there's no point them joining the U21s. Looking at some of the senior squads, there are quite a number of players who are eligible for the U21s but apart from Bellingham and Musiala, I don't think any of those players have any business playing for the U21s.

England: James, Rice, Foden, Mount and Bellingham
Portugal: Pedro Neto and Joao Felix
France: Mbappe
Germany: Havertz and Musiala

England have reverted back to their Conservative style of play and will be punished if they continue like this.

Curtis Jones is good, I think he should be part of the Euro squad for the senior team personally.

England channeling their inner Atletico Madrid there, what with the constant screams of outrage and bursts of playacting at any Croatian challenge

I wouldn’t play him over any of the guys in the senior team currently.
Henderson might not be fit for the Euros so there might well be a spot opening. Of course he's not a pure holding type but offers a lot in his locker. Seems very polished as a central midfielder and is quite progressive in his style of play. That said, if he was going to play he'd probably be in the senior squad for the qualifiers now(!)

Massive goal by Jones.
The manager could have spared himself a lot of trouble had he selected Jones from the beginning, amazing young midfielder.

And Eze who is our most experienced player. If we get through then Boothroyd will see this as vindication when it took him 7 injuries to start a player that‘s played in Champions League knockouts this season.

Brace yourself. He will stay more 2 years after the miraculous turnaround. At least that will be the predictable spinning coming to keep him on the job.
