Van Persie and Mata for me. Both players were world class and and were already playing for a top club in England.

Di Maria & Falcao - for sheer reputation and the fact that they both signed in one window. It was unheard of to sign two superstars!

Ronaldo - for YouTube porn and United player hype

Rooney - the next 'gazza', very young and very talented

Bebe - for being hyped up as the next 'Ronaldo/ Messi' . The whole mystery around him was alluring! I'm almost tempted to call this the number one exciting prospect just for the whole story, the Queiroz recommendation, the apparent speed and power!

De Gea - I was excited at prospect of a keeper that could hold the necessary level for 20 years! 4 years on and we'll be lucky to get a 5th! I thought RM wouldn't be an option given the Atletico background, but such is life!

Tosic - well actually Ljajic, but that never happened. The hype around these two was high.

Veron - one of the first truly megastar signings at his peak.

Van Persie - too late on to be one of the most exciting signings, but I had raved about him for about 10 years so felt like it was meant to happen!

RVP for me.

Veron is close, as with Anderson and Nani.

Ronaldo I got excited about after some reading but the instant joy wasn't the same as RVP.

Van Nistelrooy. Never before or since felt we were buying such a guaranteed superstar.

Cantona was a 'wow' moment, as was Ferdinand.

Would have been Ronaldinho but I'll settle for David Bellion instead

Seriously Van Nistelrooy, no one else comes close!

Veron, Rooney, RvP in that order.

Remember when we signed Veron, I was over the moon. I didnt follow transfers at that time. Saw randomly the pics and video of him holding the shirt, I was shocked and buzzing days after.

Rooney was fantastic too. An exceptional English talent, tailor made for us. I couldnt wait to see him in a United shirt after the Euros.

And RvP, that day when he signed was also special. I followed the news to see him arriving for his medical. It was the first time i landed on RedCafe and started to read in here. Top striker, Arsenal losing their best player, great signing.

Wayne Rooney.

I was 13 at the time. Immediately got a United shirt with his name on the back (the only other player to bestow that honor is Giggs)

I thought Rooney would become the best striker in the World. I don't think he really ever hit the heights I expected of him.

RVP, a quality player and a big 'feck you' to Arsenal.

The entire 2007 window, what made it special for me was that I had bought (monster) Anderson on FIFA the day he was actually announced, in my naive young days I thought we had bought the same midfielder who would also become the BPITW

di Maria was faaaaaantastic too, especially given the struggles of the previous summer window. Mata and RvP were exciting but I was scared they'd (especially RvP) upset the team balance (Kagawa-Rooney ( again)

Romero

But seriously, signing Falcao was incredible. It's so unfortunate it turned out the way it did. There's been a few I've been super excited about to be fair. Mostly attacking players.

Veron for me.
However the first time Ronaldo played for us was probably the most excited I have ever been when seeing a player in a Utd shirt for their first game. I thought at the time we have signed a player who is going to be a superstar.
Shame you got him so wrong.

Veron had definitely the wow factor. It also seemed like such a non United signing as our team was pretty much made entirely of Brits and Northern Europeans up to that point. Rooney with the all the hype around him after the Euro 2004 is another one. Out of the later ones, definitely RVP for me. He just came off his best season yet and was seen as the best striker in the league. Beating City to his signing also made it that extra bit sweeter.

Rooney, RVN and RVP.

What can I say? I like it when we sign strikers.

Ruud Van Nistlerooy.
Many were comparing him with Marco Van Basten.
He was touted as being the best finisher in the World when he arrived at Old Trafford...and he didnt disappoint.

In terms of everything, despite it being blatantly obvious he was coming to United. It's Rooney for me really. As I stated previously, Berbatov led to the "deadline day" I actually followed, I'm pretty that created it though right? No? I dunno....but yeah, Rooney, I followed that kid since Everton Reserves oddly playing at Chester once, then he went ahead and scored his first goals against Wrexham....then Euro 2004. lolNewcastle thinking they had a chance.

I could bullshit my way to saying RVN or Veron or something....but even though I played management games at that point, I really didn't get into their signings. They just kinda happened, like most transfers seemed to back then to me....I didn't follow tabloid and stories.

Other than some of the ones mentioned in the thread already, when we linked/signed Kagawa I was very happy. Think mainly because it was 'cheap' and he was one of those players I thought would just become a quiet superstar of our team

I was so pumped when we signed Rooney that i went out and bought Rooney "8" before we had even unveiled him and his squad number. There was a few numbers he could have chosen if i remember too.

The most dramatic one was the Berbatov saga, that night was quality. Fergie picking him up from the airport, him being videoed late in the evening walking around the stadium.

Nani and Anderson was decent too.
